I still maintain that there is something to that mandela effect.
Chick-fil-a used to be Chic-fil-a, damnit!
I remember countless times, either passing by the place, or ordering there myself, and being amused by their purposeful “chic” misspelling. Now you’d have me believe they spelled it properly all along??
They changed their name because they started hiring hot ass chicks at that spot. You even get one at after you go through the drive thru that just gives you condom mints.
Bands sucking after they get popular is a real thing and not just some hipster BS. It isn’t a law of the universe and there are certainly exceptions, however the basic idea is that once a band/ musician signs to a commercial label the label then needs them to pump out albums as soon as possible to capitalize on whatever success/ notoriety they have at the time and return their investment. This ends up leading to albums that in most cases have not been tempered by the same amount of time and effort as whatever they made before they had producers riding their asses.
What is likely to produce better art: a band hungry to be recognized with all of the time in the world, or a band that has already been paid and is told they need the next big hit in 6 months?
Sure there are dumbasses out there who want to be contrarians, but that doesn’t mean this idea wasn’t initially rooted in truth.
EDIT: I will add however that I believe there is an extra layer to consider for rap and r&b.
Do you know how to read? I used Deftones as an example of a band who never sold out and has never been recognized as selling out, because they never reached the commercial success of bands like Korn. I fucking love Deftones that’s my favorite band of all time. I also love Chinos side projects Team Sleep and Crosses.
Absolutely. I said that in my OP. I said that there are true, real examples of bands that actually do sell out. I listed Bring me the Horizon as the epitome example, once they signed to a major label their literal next CD the lead singer changed his voice to sound exactly like Linkin Park. That’s a record exec and producers decision to “follow a popular sound” to sell records. Lots of other examples as well I’m sure.
The point is. Not every band that becomes big sells out. Korn never sold out. Green Day, not a huge fan, but they never sold out. Nirvana never sold out, despite enormous commercial success. Smashing Pumpkins never sold out but did change their sound and people didn’t like that. But the point is that with some people, the second their favorite band gets popular they cry “sell out” whether it’s true or not.
The idea that every band that gets big automatically sells out is dumb, and it’s a millennial thing anyways. Your parents don’t argue over whether Pink Floyd and The Doors sold out lol you feel me. There are pressures that exist today that didn’t back then, and it takes a strong band to say to the record execs and producers “no”, and selling out exists and is a real phenomena, I’m just saying it’s not always true no matter how big a band or group gets they can still stay true to themselves and not buckle under the pressures to sell more records at the whim of some exec or whatever. It’s true everywhere look at Amber Lyon at CNN, and think for every Amber there are 10,000 people that just conform and sell out their morals and integrity. It takes a real hero to stand up to it in all its forms.
Dude, I used to eat there every single day when I managed a store at the mall. I used to call it Chic-Filla, “Sheek Filla” and say I am so chic and it fills me up that was a dumb joke I had. And yes I always knew it was dumb-write for “Chicken Fillet”.
This wasn’t that long ago either…
Im not getting into some label war. How about “Rock n roll”. Who cares. You’re probably one of those people with long straight hair who only likes bands that sound like that horrible cartoon on adult swim, and anything with melody isn’t metal, someone who likes every Cradle of Filth CD except their best one, Thornography.
I’m not one of them. I just used them as an example.
That was in response to a Vagrantlest noob, I don’t really even read your shit post lol. Can’t stand some of the side projects. But I do fuck with Palms.
Oh this is great. They make amazing music, I’m just a sucker for melodic songs with ups/downs build ups hooks and all that. Their new stuff is just the coolest shit you’ve ever heard, everyone hates melody and buildup and breakdowns because everyone is pretensious.
PFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTT
Is not about a label war you dumbfuck.
Is about using the correct terms for what they are.
If someone tells me that they like Linking Park, Bullet for My Valentine etc. Telling them to search for “metal” wouldn’t lead them to similar bands at all. Me telling you that they are not metal is not putting them down.
Also, LMAO, what a way to reach into stupidity levels. Go check the Metal & Jazz threads to educate yourself on what kind of music do i listen before making stupid assumptions, you asswipe.
I’m sure there are 50,000 terms sub genres and sub sub genres and sub sub sub genres and dumb terms for jazz as well. It’s dumb.
If there’s guitars, bass and drums it’s rock. If there’s screaming it’s metal. And if the singer sounds like his balls were cut off it’s emo. There ya go not hard. Btw I like some emo bands it’s just a joke.

All those bands are mainstream. Big record labels, radio play, stadium shows, TV appearances, etc. I’ll try to read what your topic is about but I just can’t get passed that claim that those bands never “made it.”
… I said Deftones has never been accused of selling out, and it’s because they never got as big as Korn or Linkin Park. Doesn’t mean they weren’t hugely successful and made lots of money.
And that’s the point. The point is those bands all got big and that just because you do doesn’t mean you automatically sell out.
Well, this solidifies that your are an idiot beyond any doubt and that any attempt of intelligent discussion with you is out of the question.
The rest of your post is such stupid shit that i wouldn’t even address it.
