I’m really not trying to duck the subject. It’s just something that I have to do to stay within the law. I can’t even have an artist draw one of the characters straight up. If the resemblance is too close, it’s breaking the law.
Sorry guys, I know it sucks, and I know other custom stick makers can do it without getting called out. But I have been called out, and threatened with lawsuit from another business. I can’t jeopardize the business I have built over the last 9 years over artwork. It is what it is.
Now I have had customers send me artwork and actually took the time to get permission from the artists and send me a letter from the artists saying it’s ok.
I have also contacted Capcom and Udon Crew directly. Udon were very cool, and gave me a contact at Capcom. However, capcom already has a controller manufacturer and won’t work with a company that isn’t on retail shelves. So there ya go :). That tells me that even if I had an artist do a drawing that was obviously Ryu, I could not use it. Or else Udon could have worked with me directly without involving capcom.
I’ll be looking at a new stick in roughly the next month or so, and I’m wondering what you might charge for a solo stick that:
uses the dual’s 2P side button layout (Start above the attack buttons, needed to be pressable at times)
is wired for PlayStation 1/2 (using the ‘standard’ Square, Triangle, R1 for Jab, Strong, Fierce and X, Circle, R2 for Short, Forward, Roundhouse; L1/L2 ignored)
has the straight (US) layout
uses a Competition stick and concave with horizontal switch buttons?
I’m hoping it wouldn’t be much more than the offering for the XB360model available, but let me know anyway. Thanks.
FYI all, I spent about 6 hours with my CNC router today and thank goodness I believe to have it fixed again. I just need to spend about another hour or two on it tomorrow. For the past few months I have had to turn down a lot of custom work because my CNC wasn’t working, and I had such a backlog of orders, I needed to outsource my wood cutting. Hopefully I will not need to do that anymore.
Next two weeks I will be pumping out the remainder of my current orders. Close to 40 sticks. Then I can relax a bit and get back to a normal schedule.
Thanks everyone for the patience, hopefully I can start fielding quotes for the custom stuff again in about 2 weeks.
Mr. Farias, you may be hearing from me soon regarding the purchase of a 360 stick. Looks like aside from custom-bulding it yourself, you’re the only game in town.
OK, I’m in the process of creating some new drawing files and I was curious if anyone had any complaints about the T-molding from the bottom edge being removed. What I am thinking is insetting a piece of 1/4" mdf for the bottom. This should still make the bottom sturdy, but will negate the need for the t-molding on the bottom.
I am not sure when I can get the dual pcb project. It looks like orders are slowing down a bit now. Probably depends when SFIV and SFHD:REMIX are coming out. I might have some time before those release to work on it. I just can’t be sure.
However, with the way I am planning it, I will be offering retrofitting for past order for those customers that do want to upgrade to a multiple console solution. I have no idea on pricing yet though.
That sounds good. As long as it won’t cost too much more than it would have if purchased with the dual pcb already installed, then I think I’m ready to buy a single player stick. And as soon as you get the details sorted on the blank 2 player panel and stand, I will be ready to purchase those as well.
With this new design you’re working on, without the t-molding on the bottom, are you also looking into moving the 3 buttons above the stick to the upper right?
Probably not to the upper right. I’ve heard complaints from both sides of this issue :). For right now, I think I am going to keep it as is. I’m not actually redrawing the control panels themselves right now, just the box portion. I’ still playing with the idea of adding the buttons to the side of the box.
Received my box this saturday after about 4 week turn-around time. It is extremely well built. Played about 80 matches of AE that night and I’m way happy with it! You do some excellent work, Ed.
Got a question for ya. I need about another 3-4’ of cord. Is my best bet just a USB extension cord or do they make that other weird extender with the circular plug in that length, and if so where could I get it?
Glad you are happy. Notice the little black line down the left side of the print. It’s light, but I can see it in the picture. That should rub out with some windex or even soap/water. I usually try to take care of it before it leaves the shop, but the darkness ones are kind of hard to see it , but the flash made it pop up a little more :).
As for the extension, yes you can just grab a USB extension cable. From people I have talked too, it doesn’t seem to add any lag at all.
Thanks for posting a picture. It’s hard to a get a good picture with the chrome t-molding. It reflects a lot :). Good Job
