Hearthstone - That other, other, other Blizzard game

Don’t ever go to battle net forums. Everybody whines about something over there. Whenever they lose to something they scream nerf

The problem is that it’s a straight up damage race and you’re always on a clock due to their hero power. UtH restricts how many clocks (minions) you can have in play and between their traps and cheap single target removal a lot of those end up doing nothing. I do think that UtH is too good but if anything it’s the traps that tips it over the top.

I’d say I know the feeling, but…I don’t have Leeroy :frowning:

My problem with UTH is that when you finally get board control over a hunter, they get a board full of “x” “beast” minions that can either go to the face, wipe the board, draw them cards (buzzard and cult master), pump with timberwolf, Leok, Direwolf alpha, raid leader, etc. Unlike the majority of hearthstone board wipe spells, UtH has a chance of actually providing permanents and board control after it resolves–thats the only reason it could be considered the best removal spell.

It makes it REALLY hard to commit to the board. You have to know how to commit ENOUGH. But that ENOUGH is a super delicate balance; you have to be able to do enough damage without losing to bow/secret/burn shenanigans, but you can’t commit too much to lose your board to a UTH. Tough matchup, but I still enjoy it.

edit: I’m not trying to sound like i’m completely hating the card–i think its totally necessary for hunters. Its a fine card, but a very scary one.

Yeah and on top of UTH combos

•Leper gnome. This card guarantees a steady shots worth of damage to the face for 1 mana. If it doesn’t get immediately removed, it does 4 damage total on the first turn it attacks with the possibility that hunter is holding his cards and does a steady shot on his turn; 6 damage by turn 2. Spend a card to remove leper gnome, you’re already down by a notably significant amount of life when it comes to facing hunter.

•Animal companion Boar at turn 3. More damage to the face.

•Eagle horn bow. Smacks your face for 3 at turn 3, and then at turn 4 he places down a explosive trap -> often steady shot. The explosive trap would remove any >2 health minions you built up on the field to try race against the clock while dealing 2 damage to your face AND give another point of durability for eagle horn bow. So that he can smack your face 2 more times. This combo clears your early board while bringing down your health by a SHIT load.

•Deadly shot/Multishot if the opponent is too afraid to bring out ideal value UTH.

•Kill command. 5 damage to whatever as long as you have a beast. Often can be used as a finisher to compliment hunters absurd damage.

•Leeroy. If they have this card well fuck. He can alley oop himself a extra 2 hounds per UTH with this card on top of dealing 6 damage straight to the face.

:spades:Optional I suppose. Knife jugglers + UTH, charge minions, Savannah Lion being a great mid-late game card due to them being a beast and summoning 2 more beasts that can trigger. SNAAAAAAKEEE TRAAAPPPPPP kinda forcing you at times to take the risk of triggering it or just go for the face which may or may not be within the hunter’s favor.

So yeah. Hunter rush hurts like hell. Taunts with a couple minions on board to prevent the chance of them using deadly shot on your taunt do help stop their rush fortunately and even a well made hunter deck’s bad draws can work out alright for them.

My now ancient as fuck and somewhat obsolete ramp Rogue has a terrible as fuck matchup against hunter, because they rely so much on board presence rofl.

Miracle druid i’ve said before has a amazingly great matchup vs hunters maybe a different story vs control hunter if there’s any, Handlock vs hunter is a volatile as fuck matchup. Either the lock helping the hunter kill him faster or the hunter is helping the lock get 2 molten giants with a defender of argus/sunfury protector making both of those giants taunted *though they’re possibly still within lethal range because of kill command.

but yeah I do enjoy facing hunters occasionally when Im playing a deck that is well prepared for that matchup. Heavy amount of mindgames due to UTH, though games end a bit too quick. I actually kind of doubt that they’ll change hunter, they’re far more likely to just add more cards overall to the game and let that shake up the meta and keeping this iteration of hunter rush a solid foundation.

The typical Hunter rush you see on ladder doesn’t run Deadly Shot, Multi Shot, Knife Juggler, Snake Trap or Savannah Highmane. If you’re seeing any of those cards, then you are playing against mid-range Hunter, and you should adjust your strategy accordingly.

It does suck that Hunter is only playable because of UtH, though. Such a ham-handed way to balance a class.

Eh, Hunter has more versatility than just UTH. You can win games without it.

True, but you’re winning those games without UtH because your opponent is playing in fear of the UtH blowout, more often than not. The theme of having synergy with beast cards is kind of cool, but it somewhat falls flat, since the neutral beasts are kind of shit, outside of Stampeding Kodo and Stranglethorn Tiger. I think that one great 2 drop neutral beast would make Hunter good enough to rock without UtH.

Make faerie dragon a beast. Full on Kappa.

I hadn’t played ranked all month, so I started up some matches this morning with one of the three priest decks I’m rotating. I was playing a rogue and had the most never-should-have-happened scenario ever.

I mind controlled a Leeroy.

For some reason, the guy played Leeroy on turn 6 when I had 24 health, then hit it with cold blood and did 10 damage to the face. Little did he know I had thoughtstolen Preparation from him two turns earlier. Turn 7 mind control, what’s up?

He conceded before I could complete my turn.

I have the solution to Hunters and Zoo, heard it here first.

I was doing my dailies and ended up using paladin for my 5 wins daily. Found out that deck had seemingly a decent matchup against handlock, the hilarious star of the deck being Cho.

Long story short, I played an early cho and caught the lock in a awkward spot with his removal heavy hand, which allowed me to gain board control relatively fast all he could do was hero power and then play a mountain giant that had to follow da rules and end up stealing a hellfire. Equality combos, Follow da rules, BGH helped me deal with the huge threats and the stolen hellfire helped cleared his lesser minions iirc.

I lost because I FACED JARAXXUS and he managed to taunt 2 6/6s before I could finish him off with assbringer. Was a close and interesting game. Now if only tinkmaster wasnt terrible.

Ill try upload it later.

I tried Heathtracker and it doesn’t seem to log every game I play. Sucks.

Fuck yeah I got a Golden Grommash

if you have a Alex you kinda have some of the core cards for Control Warrior, otherwise can dust it.

Well I am thinking of getting an Alex for my hilarious control Pally deck, which is my main deck, and Handlock deck without LORD JARAXXUS so I’ll think about it. I’ll probably hold onto him though, it feels good dropping a golden Legendary while playing

Here is my Paladin deck btw, I basically wait until I drop those Giants and Twilight Drakes then heal myself back up with the insane number of heals I have. I always have a grand time when fighting against rush decks.

I love the idea of Pally giants, although it’s always a prayer battle against zoo warlock. What made you choose Hammer of Wrath over 2x Avenging Wrath, or a second Wild Pyromancer + Tirion?

Actually I feel like a have a good matchup against zoo warlocks or rush decks in general, unless I have a really really crappy draw I usually have answers due to Paladins having a couple of board clear options, and I can stall them with healing while I gain momentum. Dropping a molten giant for free then taunting it then dropping holy light can fuck them up pretty bad.

I used to run 2x Wild Pyro, but i just feel like I have enough weapons to kill rush decks. I’m still trying to figure that one out.

Only reason is because I dont have Avenging Wrath yet lol, but if I do I’ll probably swap one. Hammer of Wrath has its uses though. Tirion is another one I still don’t have as of yet, so I feel this deck can still get a lot stronger.

Lorewalker Cho is hilarious after you drop those giants

I actually discovered that hearthtracker and hearthstone tracker are two different things, and switched to the latter earlier today. It does even more detailed tracking. you might give it a shot.

I just fought 2 Handlocks in a row, both are nail biters. Shit is funny, it feels like we mirror each other but with different decks. First game I was able to knock him down to 1 health with JARAXXUS in play but wasn’t able to finish him off. Next game he put me down to 1 health before I dropped 2 molten giants for free and a mountain giant and 2 holy lights. Next turn he brought out a molten giant of his own and shadowflamed it lol. I was able to beat him with my weapon though.

I removed a Hammer and replaced it with Wild Pyro to help a little with my early game board control
