Everytime i make a deck in arena, I look at it’s potential weaknesses and hope to god that i dont ever run into them at 1-3 wins. Slightly slow midrange druid deck with a slight weakness to a aggro deck with a great early start;
runs into a lock that does turn 1 flame imp, turn 2 knife juggler, turn 3 void walker and a knife into my scarlet crusader + mortal coil and a another flame imp
I had a 4/4 yeti, a fresh raging worgen and a fresh acolyte of pain.
I have 4 cards in hand and theres nothing on the opposing paladins board. He has 2 cards left. He uses avenging wrath and the acolyte draws 3 cards and the yeti + worgen live at 2 health.
I’m happy.
edit
Started a priest run because i didn’t feel comfortable with Shammy or didnt want to risk it with hunter and lawd this draft makes me feel comfortable.
I played a turn 2 mana wraith after this lock used hero power and he shadow bolted it. Allowed me to coin -> lightspawn. He played yeti he really REALLY wanted that yeti out. I power word shielded the lightspawn and traded.
You know, now that JuuM has provided the glorious golden spectacle of Harrison Jones in his entirety…I always thought the thing in front of him was his two hands, fingertips touching. Kinda like this:
I think my problem is exactly as you state, I’m too obsessed with having a clean board. I really struggle with the arena mindset and I’m constantly overthinking what my opponent might have in their hand.
Played against the best arena deck I’ve ever played against or at least the most annoying. He had 4 duplicates, two kirin tor mages, 2 mad scientists, and 2 mirror entity. He got a duplicate chain going with mad scientist originally, and every single kirin tor or mad scientist that came into play or deathrattled searched out another secret.
doesn’t have the secrets getting played for free but you get the gist. I basically got locked by infinite fen creepers and then infinite mirror images inbetween a pyromancer and flamestrike boardwipe. And I just ran out of cards.
Wow, that would be the most frustrating deck to play against. Plus so many good cards!
I had a really bad couple of runs yesterday. 4-3 and 1-3, both on mage. I ran into 4 face hunters, and i just have no idea how to handle aggro decks in arena. I end up trading all day and by the time it’s stable I’m on a really short clock.
Drafted a third mage deck and I’m currently 2-0 with, I hope this one redeems me.
Edit: the 1-3 deck i had arenamastery.com/99ST. I thought it was a solid deck, but i got pummeled by 2 face hunters and a shaman with tons of removal.
But then I opened the pack. Got Knife Juggler and…fucking Golden Cairne Bloodhoof. First Legendary Pull and it’s that. Maybe I should go 0-3 more often.
I coined a Spider for turn 2, opponent plays mad bomber and the spider lives with 1 hp. Turn 2 I played a 2nd spider and went for face. Opponent plays a 3/2 raptor.
Turn 3 I traded both spiders for the mad bomber and now i got 4 tokens. Opponent plays Flesh eating Ghoul and goes for face with raptor.
Turn 4 Cult master comes in and i draw 4 cards and killed his ghoul.
5 wins so far, no losses, ran into amazing decks with plays that would have been game ending otherwise but this deck had the answer to everything. I’ll try upload to youtube later.
@Veserius Started a shaman run for the first time. 5-1 so far, thanks for the suggestion. The one loss was vs a priest with turn 2 coin dark cultist, turn 3 dark cultist, turn 4 dark cultist power word shield, turn 5 senjin pw:s. Needless to say it was a slaughter.
@Saitsu congrats! That should definitely put the arena run behind you!
shaman feels super stable to me. The commons are just so good between axe, fire elemental, the removal spells, unbound, and flametongue totem that I always end up with a good part of that.
It feels like it has the least “dud” cards of any class with only Totemic Might, Far Sight, Dust Devil, and Ancestral Healing(though I’ve used it to heal up a silenced earth elemental with 2 health left a few times clutch!) being really groan worthy picks.
High quality on the other end and 3 pretty useless cards and one marginal one isn’t that bad. Everything rare and up other than Far Sight can be backbreaking for your opponent too.
I definitely hate playing against priest and weapon classes with shaman, but the strong mage/druid matchups outweigh that. About a third of my arena matches are against one those 2 classes with shaman and paladin next up. I feel i can outplay the other shamans, and paladin is basically about how many truesilvers/consecrates do they have vs. how many guys with 3 and 5 health do you have.
Priest feels like a coinflip though. I beat a deck that started lightwarden, power word shield x2 and got it up to like 7 attack, but i had him get greedy and misplay. I never feel “secure” playing against priest cause sometimes crap just goes down especially with thoughsteal. I have a pretty positive winrate vs. all classes playing shaman, but priest I don’t feel in control of whether or not I win or lose unless the player is showing obvious lack of playskill.
