** HDR Revival! **

Yeah, we’ll try to run the next one in September.

We were going to run it this month but I’ve been slammed at work and I’m still recovering from ToL. :stuck_out_tongue:

why would Capcom say that HDR is one of the “selected games” in the 25th Ann. Tourney, but yet the old sprites are used and you have to play on classic? Mite as well just say you’re featuring Super Turbo, not HDR.

Was this whole thing set up by Capcom Japan or Capcom of America? Either one of the vocal “HDR haters” got into someone at Capcom’s head before the tournament started or CoJ set it up and was afraid the Japanese players wouldn’t know how to play HDR since it was never officially released there. Which would be ironic because I believed they cancelled the Japanese 25th Ann. Tourney. Either way it sucks, though I still would have liked to have played in it if it wasn’t just on the coasts (and I’m somewhat in the eastern midwest).

Uh, that’s not true at all.

If it’s not true, then what gives? I was confused when I saw that they changed the rules to “classic only” with old sprites. Very misleading. I would have still played in it had it been near my area, but still man. That would be like saying “hey gamers, we’re having a Super 4 AE tourney, but you cant pick Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu, Oni…”

The whole 25th Anniversary Series is being run on PS3 so the only way to run “ST” is on HDR Classic mode.

I think point Freeway was trying to make is that it was advertised as HDR on PS3, then the day of the 1st tourney it was changed to classic mode, classic sprites, and I think speed 2 (which I believe was changed to speed 3 in later ones). Afro even said he practiced HDR for the first tourney and he gets there and it’s classic mode so he’d been practicing the wrong game.

Not that I think it matters much anyway, looking to Capcom for support is a dead end, SF4 (and soon SF5) is the new cash cow now. ST is only worthy of the occasional quick cash in port every few years (especially now that the one time they do put some money into it and try to move the series forward a bunch of people crap all over it. They won’t be doing that again). It’s up to us to keep SF2 going.

Right. Basically, this 25th Anniversary tourney is in reality, a middle finger to the HDR series and it’s fans. Not only does it embarrass and further diminish the value of the game on a national & international level, but it also gives more firepower to the main people who lobby against it. I mean, how extreme can the dislike for Remix get? To the point where they can’t even stand the graphics, which look 10X better? Is HDR really that bad? Why are ST purists so adamant on not playing it? Based off of what I’ve seen via tourney footage, comments, etc…, a lot of players (who’ll never admit it) jock ST because of the abusive glitches that are present such as tick throw loops, 50% unblockable Ryu air tatsu kicks on opponents during wakeup (which is a complete joke), occasional tricky and unbalanced crossups (Chun Li neckbreaker), etc. HDR pretty much fixes a majority of these flaws, but yet it constantly gets the cold shoulder.

Don’t turn this into another ST vs HDR debate. That’s been done to death already.

They wanted to run ST, so it was run on HDR Classic mode. That’s all.

tru, but the title IS HDR Revival, which is negatively affected by HDR haters who jock ST. Jus sayin…

Who here is hating?

For the record, I’m not using the term haters as the common ignorant jeer that people often use. When I say HDR haters, I’m meaning the people who literally don’t like the game. im not necessarily calling in anyone out, but similar to what Possum said earlier, it just seems strange that the rules suddenly got changed to classic. Just seems like someone who didn’t like HDR with major pull within the Capcom market would be responsible for the sudden change to classic at the last minute. But if you say it’s not true then hey, nothing else can be said or done about it. Dont get me wrong tho, I can bust heads on either version of the game, but I prefer HDR. Just disappointed that it got changed.

Ultimately, the decision to turn HDR into an HDR Classic is a decision made by Capcom management, and not the ST community. You can play conspiracy theorist all you want, but nothing can be proven thus far, so it’s a pointless discussion unless we figure out how the tourney rules were changed prior to the tournament, and even after the first qualifiers occurred.

I’ll cut straight to the point. The ST vs. HDR debacle was dumb and petty and only served to create divisions in an already small and dwindling community. That much we can agree on. What’s important is that we choose to continue to support the SF2 scene now, regardless if that’s playing in local ST tournaments, HDR Classic 25th Annv. Qualifiers, or HDR monthly tournaments on PSN run by the NHC.

agreed. Just not a big fan of something being said, but not done. If it walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, call it a duck. Not HD Remix. lol

Yeah, that part of the tournament rules for the 25th Annv. got confusing. It should’ve been stated clearer in the tournament rules, instead of just being passed by word of mouth from the players who participated in the first qualifier.

They probably just called it HDR just to make it easier for people to understand which game and consoles they’ll be playing on. If you use “Super Turbo” or “HDR Classic”, people either think it’s going to be on arcade cabinets, or some weird alternate version of HDR, and might not want to join. That’s my guess.

It’s a bad theory, but so is not supporting a product that your company produced, but that’s on whoever made the call to make it a Super Turbo Console tournament.

Ol’ Caps has never had any faith in HDR and on top of that the PS3 port is just about the shittiest version of SF2 I’ve ever played on a home console. They never bothered to further patch it once it was sold to everyone, and they ignore everything that was posted in their forums about its existence. This was well before the HDR 25th tourney debacle, so it’s pretty obvious how they feel about the game.

Also, my personal feelings about the game aren’t very positive, I don’t like the remix that much and I really hate the graphics and remade music. It’s pretty terrible IMO, and they really could have done so much better. However, I’m still supporting the game because we have a lot of members playing the PSN version, and it’s helping to keep SF2 alive. Lately I’ve been on HDR more than GGPO because frankly, I don’t see a lot of GGPO regulars anymore, and I want to play games not sit around waiting for someone to accept a challenge. I’m also organizing monthly tournaments for both games. Why? To keep SF2 alive.

Add my boy hdCloudestrife08. Dope HDR player

HDR vs ST is so wasted and even corny, it is not necessary to revive that old topic.

You just play and support the game you like and play the most, if you like both, well, play both, support both. What i see here, is that HDR fans has an defensive position, i don’t see any ST head hating here.

We have to worry about keeping SF2 alive and healthy, if capcom runs tourneys in classic mode, well if you like classic mode, go, play, have fun and if you’re good enough kick some asses. If Capcom is not longer supporting HDR mode, well create your own tourneys and show to everybody that the HDR is strong and alive.

Stop complaining and do something about HDR!, start your own tourneys.

Yours Sincerely.
A SThead.

alot of people say bad things about hdremix. but cmon street fighter 2 turbo on hd in your home console chilling on a couch how can you go wrong? i mean i like the new sprites and love remix music , and having the classic music and sprites its a great bonus’ only thing i miss is the car and barrels bonus oo and the sound of your points when you win’‘lol ’ but even clasic mode for those st players ,its a shame that the ps3 ver’ isnt the greates’ but i used to play the classic sf2 on xbla until rrod ‘im glad i buy a ps3 and this game’’’ i have sf4 ‘ssf4ae’sf3rd’sfalpha2’3 sf aniversary’ and hyper edition but hdremix on ps3 its my fave game’

Most people who are into SF2 nowadays prefer that arcade feel that can’t be replicated anywhere else. But besides that, a lot of people were split on the new sprites, music, backgrounds, and changes to the game play.

Classic mode has some problems with it doesn’t quite make it arcade perfect, but it’s fairly close.
