Never called the writers gutless, but in this instance they went the easy clichéd route.
Killing Velcoro now would create a huge break in the plot that would take a helluva lot of writing chops to mend, that takes guts. Not to mention an A-list and seemingly principal actor being killed this early would be less expected and generate more “Oshi everyone gets shot!” hype. The mortality of the rest of the principal cast would now be called into question and create more tension in dicier scenes. (aka drama)
It’s not like I’m spazzing out over it, I just thought it would’ve made for an interesting change of pace. I’m sure they probably mulled it over in the writers’ room.
I would have preferred areal shot, too. Who goes around blasting people with riot rounds, anyway? That’s some silly shit. If I have a shotgun, it’s going to be loaded with real slugs. 99% of people who don’t shoot at unarmed protesters would do the same.
That fighting scene seemed ridiculous. Guy has an easy 100 lbs. on Frank and he couldn’t have just lifted the fucker up? I’m 175 lbs. and I’ve lifted and slammed someone in a fight at least 25 lbs heavier than me so if I could do it I know that fat Samoan fuck could, too. Getting boxed out in such an enclosed space seemed unrealistic to me.
Is anyone else noticing how Vince Vaughn is dropping the broody, dark Frank motif and going into Vince Vaughn mode from every comedy he’s ever done? There are times where I just think he’s going to go all:
Also, aren’t those riot shots supposed to be used from at least 30 feet away? A pointblank shot like that would have put more holes in the motherfucker than any of @tataki’s arguments supporting Gamer Gate.
He could have just charged him. Sure, he would’ve taken a blow or two, but that’s a bargain for getting the dude on the floor and flattening him out like a crepe.
Another thing. Apoplectic. Stridency. These are very uncharacteristic words for a a shit cop and a gangster to be using, respectively. At least Frank stumbled on the former and made the scene somewhat humourous. Seriously, though, when’s the last time you heard the word “apoplectic” be used in a conversation as a substitute for “angry” or “indignant”?
Someone pointed that out on reddit, “People don’t talk like that, Nic.”
Apparently whatever book Ray had in his apartment Ani picked up while he was outside dealing with the ex is also a philosophical book that would normally be way over our shit cop character’s head. Some christian mythology that got the author labeled a heretic.
Rust seemed like an intellectual. Ray does not seem like a guy who’s interested in all that book learnin. Not that I think he’s dumb but we knew rust as a smart guy frpm the jump.
We were introduced to his nickname “tax man” early on. That’s a part of his character being smarter than everyone else.
Ray is passing out in bars and beating up a kid’s dad. Not what you would expect to see from a ‘smart’ guy. “Well I want you to know I support feminism… mostly by having body image issues”
