Hawai'i Video Gaming League

Ok ill make sure we do that. I just got to find a CRT big enough lol. We only have 20" CRTs. Can i still use an LCD but in 480i?

And to answer Kimo, we just recently started our league this January. We have had a few events and have a growing membership. We have a few local sponsors so far and because we are an NPO we are community based.

Everything the league makes goes back to the community and the gamers themselves. Be it in donations, and for the gamers cash and prizes. We aim to dispel the “negative” aspects that society focuses on when it comes to gaming.

Gamers are lazy, Games make you unstable, they are ruining society yadda yadda.

By community based I mean that we also do community service. We have a beach clean up scheduled at Ala Moana on April 13th, and several of us are taking part in the upcoming aids walk. I believe that this league will show that as gamers we are still responsible for bettering our community as well as ourselves. Also getting the oh so scattered gaming community together to make ourselves count on the map of pro gaming…ok I’m done with my rant. lol

Ah, ha ha. Man that was two paragraphs short of a rant lol. But yea man that?s cool. If you need any volunteers or crew members let me know. As it says on my profile I live in Mililani but I work down by Ala Moana. I work Mon-Fri 9-6 so I?m off on weekends. I’d love to join some fellow gamers on the Aids walk and I?m sure my fiance wouldn?t mind being there neither. She?s some what of a gamer too. Mainly RPG?s and Dance Dance Revolution. Lol. But seriously, if you need anything to contact me send me a pm.

CRT is what’s used at EVO.

Ok ill see waht i can do about a decent sized CRT. I guess ill Use the LCD for SSB brawl.

the game can be played in 480i in a lcd but it will still have “lag/latency” problems. it can be anywhere from very minimal to drastic. And the players that play these games serioulsy need the proper monitor with no lag.

most lcd tv’s have the adjustment ability to change their resolution output but there is downscaling or up scaling depeding which way your going. anyways this scaling takes time to change from one resolution to another, thus lag, so this adjustment feature doesn’t really help

the only way to use a lcd tv games that run at 480i is to have that lcd tv’s native resolution at 480i( equals 640 x 480). It sucks because now adays, all resolutions are way higher than that.

Best place to buy a good CRT 480i tv is at Sears Parts in mapunpuna, last time i checked they had only 4 27inch sony vegas there!! those things are so rare to even find now adays

about the cost of the new dreamcast and orig Mvc2 cost, let me think about what a decent cost should be

thanks for listening Neko X

I understand what you mean and I am at fault myself. Its funny when EVO 2004 was announced and the format switched from arcade to console I was pissed off. I was dead set against console for a few reasons. Back in the early days of SF2 there was no such thing as a console port. When SF2 finally came out on SFC/SNES and everyone owned it. It was still looked down on by majority of the players as inferior and scrubish to take serious. We used it for more as an alternative to practice combos, etc. Even up till SRKs early years there was a group of players who didn’t take console tournaments serious.

I changed my view. I understand that consoles eventually would catch up in power with the arcade games that we played. Also arcades are almost nonexistent and I read that?s there only 3000 arcades left in the entire united states. So it was a natural evolution of sorts. Looking back the EVO staff has worked out the majority of the kinks that come with doing console tournaments and my view has been in favor of console tournaments since then. I still feel I play better on an arcade cabinet but that?s more of a cosmetic issue with the placement of the controls and seating.

Yea, I posted more as a precaution. I didn’t want this to become a “lets convert them” sort of deal. Crossover is always good and I don’t any problems with it. But at the same time I think the idea and concept of their league has a lot of advantages.

Don’t get me started on the IIDX/DDR/KOF community. I know a bunch of them are cool reasonable people. But a lot of them are fan boys and want every single version of IIDX and DDR the second the game comes out. They would post for HBB to get version 7 even if version 8 would be coming out shortly after 7. I remember posting on there forum when HBB had an area there. Anything with the word street fighter or Capcom would get flamed there by idiots that had no clue what they were talking about. They would bitch and complain for every single new game and then make comments about boycotting Brians if they didn’t get what they wanted. Thankfully Glenn was a fair person and listened to a lot of our comments and got 360s installed, cvs2 came to brians, etc.

No problems were caused just a miss understanding if anything. I’m reading this thread and keeping tabs on it a lot more than normal because I invited there league to post on our forums. I stumbled upon them while looking at the CVS2/GGXX thread on the anime conventions forums. I checked out his page and did some reading and liked what they were about. I know there still in the early stages and some people might get discourage because there still not big. But I got a lot of faith in what they?re trying to do even before I went to check it out in person. Currently our scene is so split up that we need to have some cross over with other players if we have any luck in expanding all our games players. The best option to do that is to go down there and show them what we do. Educate them on the tournament format, settings, why we do things a certain way, and best of all the selection of games that we play. Doing this I am sure it would generate interest in their various players as well as other players that might want to get involved.

PSX

Thank you for the faith PSX. I run my tourneys EVO style actually. LOL but i had no idea about the latency issues on a LCD. I have to correct that error. But i would really love your input on running these tourneys as im still inexperienced at it. And if I am going to be having you pros there I need to make sure everything is good. I actually have an old 32 inch Vega but its contsantly shutting itself off. I was thinking about taking it to the service center in mapunapuna. If I get that fixed theres our tourney TV.

If I ever have to play next to a sweaty, smelly, 35 year old, morbidly obese, virgin, balding man who is cosplaying as an anime schoolgirl, I will stab someone in the face.

Neko X, where are you located at?

can you post pics of your place/layout?

thanks

Actually we hold the tourneys right now at 3215 Ala Ilima St. in salt lake, the sunset lakeview condominiums. On the rec deck at the top of the building. You can check out…

I think we have some pics of the set up or i can email you a fighting set up pic from my iphone.

no we dont have any of those. LOL Ithink those guys cosplay as Naruto…LMAO

Ok guys i posted the tournament in the tournament section. I am waiting on the sticky.

I can’t say I speak for all the 3s players on this but …one small thing to note. I think it would be better to run the PS2 version of SF2 AC for SF3. I don’t think many players in our scene have arcade sticks for xbox. I have a mas stick for xbox with convex buttons and a perfect 360 but I doubt many others do or prefer american sticks for 3s.

A better option might be to run it on the ps2. If you dont got a ps2 or the game let me know.

As for the TV options I will comment on that later. I’m finishing work for on time and looking forward to seeing sun light on my way home.

Thanks,
PSX

ill switch it to PS2 then.

thanks psx, i forgot about that note. ps2 is the version of choice. most players have ps2 sticks as well.

I secured a 27 inch CRT TV for the tourney. So we are good to go.

sorry kind of off topic but whos goin evo for sure? im working again so imma start savin up, how much do u think i would need? o and wat time ya’ll headin down tomorrow

OK i just wanted to touch up on a few things for you guys. We are sponsored by VG Addict, Razor Sports/concepts, we have a partial sponsorship from KCCN (probationary period) And we are looking into Cookie Corner (we are receiving 5 1 lb boxes of cookies for this next tourney) And Crack seed store (the little one under the stairs in pearlridge.)

The league is not part of the kawaii-kon convention, we are hosted on there forums and we are going simply to spread the word about the league. The Gaming director at the Kon is who gave us our first big push and is why we push for him.

Also my PR director gave me a call and he actually had a meeting with Glenn over at netwerx. He has agreed to let us use the front as a possible venue. Along with his consoles and TVs. We will most likey be using that come the April tourneys.

If you guys want to know ANYTHING about the league, be it how moneys appropriated, what we plan to do or just have small questions feel free to ask. As we are an open book literally.

Once again I thank you all for your interest and look forward to seeing hopefully some of you on March 16th.

Doing anything Halo related? :stuck_out_tongue:
