Hatred for Shoto's?

deaded by panda: It’s funny because out of the characters you listed only Vega actually has advantage on shotos.

Haha, I do this all the time.

Anyway for my input, I don’t really hate shotos, I just hate playing the same thing over and over and over again. It gets extremely boring after a while.

I like shotos but I need to play with another character also.

It’s even funnier when goood players will play 10+ matches with their main character, wait a few seconds on the select screen, do a couple of dings, then go right back to the same fucking guy they’ve been raping with all along.

Shotos

I actually started out playing Dhalsim in the SF2 series of games before switching to Ken. Akuma seems to have weaker defense, Ryu is too slow for me, but Ken’s my favourite character by far, so no, I don’t hate shotos. I’ve been playing (seriously but non-competitively) for about ten years now, so I’m not exactly new to the game.

I think what everyone hates is when someone spams the same move over and over again, but really, if you get your brain out of your usual habits, you can easily take down a spammer. You just have to think about which moves that repeated dragon punch won’t be effective against.

As an aside the only character I haven’t seen played by an annoying spammer is T-Hawk, because I’m pretty sure he’s the pariah of the Street Fighter series… no offense intended to anyone who’s actually taken the time to master him though. That would be tough!

im actually loving T-Hawk at the moment, he has good priority and good reach, this isnt much of a stretch cause i love playing the gief, but every time i start a match out, i choose t-hawk, i just need to pull his grabs off and i can be prety good with him

Interesting… maybe I’ll have to sit down and try and learn him then once I’ve got the stick. I can’t do anything really reliably with the 360 controller, haha

yeah im using a hori i think its EX2 my buddie let me borrow his that he got from japan

Hmm, its a no win situation here. No matter who you play, someone is going to hate it.

I personally dislike Shotos because they ahve absolutely zero personality and 98% of the shotos you fight do the same old predictable shit. It was horrible in HF, as it felt like Ken was a counter pick to my choices. And EVERYONE played Ken it seemed. In ranked matches I always took about 200-300 points off your ‘record’ if you were a Ken player. ITs MUCH better now as alot of the charge characters have better methods of dealing with zoning.

I used to hate Honda in HF also, folks would counter pick my Rog with Honda and just slap all day. Now I play Honda, he’s part of my rotation - and I’m sitting here reading the thread getting a little miffed because even with having a rotation, someone says they are scrubby/suktastic in some shape or form…like honestly its gotten downright scrubby sounding - if the person doesn’t play the way you want them to, they suck or are just abusing ‘said’ character. My #1 is Strawberry Shortcake (Red Chun-li), I follow her up with Rog/Dee Jay/Honda, then follow that up with Sagat/Claw. YEt based on everything being said in the trhread I’m by default a scrub rolls eyes.

If your playing a shoto and let E Honda get in close, you deserve every lick of chip/tick you get. Honda’s strong suit is up close, thats where the bulk of his damage is, so why are people getting upset that he does so much dmg up close? Thats like someone complaining about how much dmg THawk’s throw does without factoring in how hard he has to work to get thru a good zone. It should never be an ‘iWin’ button - with anyone. If you don’t like the HHS chip, then keep him AWAY…thats what shotos specialize in. The jab headbutt erases ONE fireball and STOPs, so thats not going to et him inside a decent zone. The butt flop whatever leaves him EXTREMELY vunerable even on cross up to shotos. He doesn’t have Bison level ait maneuverability…he has to work to do that dmg. ITso n you if you eat it.

I’m sorry as a guy who doesn’t really like zoning hell I JUST picked up Sagat somewhat seriously I have to fight to break zones all night long, I have to out space fireball/dp, sonic boom/flashkicks, tiger shot/tiger knee/tiger uppercuts the entire time, when I do crack thru that space, there shouldn’t be complaints about the dmg I do. As a frequent charge character, I give up most of my special moves just trying to get close enough to even THINK about doing dmg.

Hell thru it all I LAUGH at folks who pick Akuma and think they are actually good when they win. Then they get upset when my Strawberry shortcake rapes them with an AIDs infested dildo.

The Gamestop 360 controller for like 25 bux is by far the best D-pad for the 360, I scooped one just so I could play HF. Its a great transition pad too, because if you build your own stick its one of the better ones to use as parts.

As a former Ken, i don’t hate Shotos.

Every franchise has their “posterboys”.

Would this thread be titled “Hatred for Claw” if Vega had been the playable character in the original SF?
If the anime(s) centered on him, would we be sick of seeing Claw any time we go online?

How about E. Honda. Not that i think he could carry a franchise, but would we be hating on the sumo because he’s the most recognizable character?

It’s not the character someone’s using, it’s the person who’s using it.
I discovered this the hard way with Ken.
Nothing i did seemed to work against people like Chun-Li & Zangief.
I became far too predictable.
Then i started using Ken like he was Claw or Chun, trying to remain in the air for as much of the round as possible.
Tornado kicks, cross up attempts & maybe the odd throw or two.
Yeah, that worked for about a round.

So now I’m a Sagat user.
Yeah, it’s not much of a change from Ken, but the double knee has helped me out more times than i care to count.
I’m still not anywhere near what i’d class as good, but i’m getting there.
That’s what happens when you don’t play a game for 9 years.

Arguably, i should have stuck with Ken & learned what to do in the situations i was in.
Sagat seemed to offer a solution (not necessarily an easy one, it’s not like i’m racking up back to back wins).
At least, for the time being.

At the end of the day, if you’re sick of the sight of Ryu & Ken, nobody can blame you.
But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any good Ryu or Ken users out there.

Akuma.
He’s overused in tournament mode, i can tell you that much.
Nothing like the sight of 7 Akumas in an 8 player tournament.

Akuma shouldn’t even be legal in Tourney play. He’s just ridiculous.

akuma is was and always will be the only shoto in ST that deserves hatred…the others are just main charachters that casual gamers enjoy picking.

dont forget we all started somewhere

Nah, we should force all noobs to start with T. Hawk.

Yeah and I started with characters who had personalities - Chun-li and Blanka. Only time I ever played Ryu seriously was in XvSF .

How funny is it that the “Hatred for Shoto’s” thread has turned into a “Blame Honda” thread?

Anyone halfway decent with a Shoto would beat all those “Scrub” Honda’s into the ground…this is coming from a Honda main. Think I complain?

Wanna beat Honda? Learn a shoto. Oh and Guile or DJ if ya still like to charge and win.

Honda is nowhere near as broken as Akuma…though you couldn’t tell that from all the Honda haterade floating around SRK.

I must admit, I use Ryu in ST…and in TvC…and I will probably play him in SFIV. I’m just most comfortable using him. Well, I’m more comfortable using motion characters in general, and out of all the motion characters in SF, he’s just my best…which isn’t saying much, I AM pretty scrubby with him =P

I do want to learn Boxer, however, but I’m finding it difficult to adjust to his playstyle, especially on a pad…and it’s fun to use Zangief now that I don’t have to do 360s to pull off his stuff.

When I first started, I picked a shoto. Then I realized how hard it was to input commands with a 360 controller.

So, yeah… now I’m biting people to death. For a complete novice to fighting games like myself, its an easy solution to my controller problem. Once I get my fighstick, then its another story…

I don’t hate Shoto’s, but for some reason I feel an extra sense of satisfaction when I beat one.

However, I especially hate losing to Ken players who only do knee bash mixups. I’m not saying it’s cheap, but it’s so damn frustrating?

i think today was shoto day, except for me, i was in a room, went on a 6 win streak, lost, the NEXt match, Shoto vs shoto, Shoto vs shoto, Shoto vs balrog, Shoto vs Shoto, then back to me, Geif vs Guile lol, in that hour i faced a shoto once but only saw matches with shoto’s lol

think maybe people know i hate shotos now on SFHD? lol

I don’t hate Shotos, my Fei Long usually rips though them.

But damn is watching 2 shoto’s fight the most boring thing ever. Same strategies over and over again, it becomes very easy to tell which shoto players actually good and which just stick with one set strategy and are afraid to mix things up, whether they are winning or losing.
