Hatred for Shoto's?

Being a ken player, its a blessing theres so many scrubby kens. Whenever I pick him I’m 100% sure my opponent assumes that I’m gonna be another scrubby ken to beat on. So i’m sure theres a huge question mark over his head after he gets his ass handed to him. On the other hand, I hate it when I beat people and they immediately choose ken to try to mirror match me. As if they’re gonna out ken me. I really hate that.

Haha…I hear you on that mirror match thing. But hey…I enjoy the challenge. Which is exactly why I joined SRK.

Back when the original SFII was in the arcade I fell in love with Chun Li because her charge moves were easy to pull off, her lightning legs even easier, and she had that fantastic MK. First time I beat the CPU in the arcade was with Chun.

But when Ken got his flaming fierce DP in ST, I was unabashedly “taken” with the coolness of it, so I began learning him. I’ve loved using him ever since.

Now I find that I hate playing against charge character (mainly Honda and Chun), what with the stupidly easy tactic of simply pushing a single button really fast…blocked tick damage quickly turns into “hey, I might as well be taking the actual hits!”. Honda can go to hell. I that stupid character.

What I like about the shotos is that once you learn one pretty well it’s not a difficult feat to transfer that knowledge over to the others, and you’ve got a near-instant cast of 4-5 characters you can cycle between.

I’ve never understood doing the whole “mirror match” thing either. Now I’ve played against someone who wasn’t that good with Ken or Cammy (my main 2), and I would then select that same character just to show 'em what a decent one looks like. But the idea that you are on some sort of “equal ground” just because you picked the same character as me is absurd.

And the hatred you have for shotos…I have for chargers. And as mentioned, I have little to no respect for any Honda player unless they are just exquisitely interesting to watch. Stupid headbutt and hand slap can rot.

I believe that most people who pick shotos aren’t very good players, thus making people believe some kind of dislike of shotos. People who are good with them and who actually took time to learn all/most of the aspects of the characters still get hated on because of the people who use them and are just sucky.

I don’t mind shotos as long as it’s not some crack ken. Those fuckers are so random it defies comprehension, especially online.

I have a hatred for shotos myself. Only because everybody in my immediate local area plays Ryu/Ken/Akuma. Makes me lose interest in ST for me =(

I MIGHT give Akuma some leeway, but that’s about it.

i have to agree with whomever said they love that 90 percent of shotos are scrubs. being underestimated when i show up on the spot with ken puts wins on the table. not to mention the only charachters who i feel are completely defensless are fei long and t-hawk

Shotos suck balls, but I personally hate playing claw.
People that just back off and spam Vegas BS diving grab all night can be a real boring match.

And in defense of Honda against the haters, Honda is a great character and his head but is easily countered. I disagree about noobs being able to do allot with Honda. If you’re a dececnt enough player, you can jab work out head but, and I rate a high skilled Honda player over a high skilled Vega or Ryu any day.

p.s.
GEIF all day.

sorry dbl post :frowning:

See now, i cant understand why people hate all day on the shoto charachters, the only one i feel shouldnt be played unless its a funsies game is Akuma, the only argument one can make against them is that too many scrubs play as them. otherwise its just a matter of opinion

Well okay, I’ll be honest, as much as I love Akuma, I can’t help but admit that after playing Zangief, Honda, Blanka, and Balrog, I find a lot of the other characters to be a lot more fun than your typical Shoto. Probably because I’ve been using Akuma since who knows when…

Which is probably why once SFIV comes out I’ll probably be trying out Gouken since even though he’s technically a Shoto, his fighting style is a drastic departure from your typical Shoto moveset. I might even consider C. Viper or Abel as well.

ill also admit i have a hell of a lot of fun picking guys like gief and honda every once in a while, but when it comes to your main charachter really its all opinions.

Gouken does seem like a really cool charachter to play as though i have to agree i cant wait to learn his style of play

Aww man… I was playing honda since Super Turbo… You know how fucking hard it was to get out of a good zone?

The whole point of zoning is that it should be hard to get out of.

Shotos = a noob/scrub can look like they know what they are doing, yet be completely useless with them.
Honda/Claw = a noob/scrub can have no idea what they are doing, yet be extremely dangerous with them.

I’ll take the noob/scrub online shotos versus Honda/Claw any day.

I really don’t get the Claw hate in HDR. That walldive bs doesn’t even knockdown, and every character has an answer to walldive prior to knockdown.

The HDR Claw player definitely has to play a smarter game than the ST Claw player, and it is an interesting and dynamic game, imo.

Honda is a piece of shit.

As for the shoto hate.

Meh.

They are the main characters. Of course they will be overplayed. Just use them for practice if they suck, like I do.

I’ll tell you something though, I don’t do shit at the start of the round against Ken players.

Round One… FIGHT!
Fierce DP

I do have a strong dislike for Shoto scrubs, but my hate for dictator scrubs runs deep.

LOL, so true!

Ken = does some kind of special move
Ryu = throws a fireball or jumps backwards

Vega isn’t half as easy as Honda to win with. They shouldn’t be in the same category.
