Hakan Video Thread: Ready for Action!

I know Hakan is not DSP’s main. I just like to see Hakan get oily action even if it makes me go “wtf why did he do that! He’s going to get punished hard!” (In both the Guile and C.Viper match ups I sighed… and no not sighs of relief).

And Macarratti I don’t think he is the “big man” that will rep Hakan (it’s not his main).

I’m just hoping UltraDavid and others (the Hakan that did show up on stream this year at evo2010 was NOS99 right? Saw him post earlier and I could have sworn that to be the case) can hit up Evo2011 and show people how to oil up.

Anyways let me not get off topic further (tends to happen when I’m tipsy on forums at midnight. I know what I quoted is not aimed directly at me, but just putting it out there because this is a Hakan video thread. I’m posting DSP’s match because I’m a fan of Hakan and not the other way around. Guess I’ll stick with posting Nico or something).

After HP/EX Rocket I like to walk a tiny step and then jump towards for safe jump. Not much of a setup, and I pretty much just eyeballing it, but I find it’s pretty good though.

I like how the jump in the vid will hit backdashes though… that’s something I never do and I should do more often.

As for repping Hakan at Evo, I think I’ll be going to Evo Japan too, but I don’t think I’ll fare so well over there. lol

I was watching this. While DSP didn’t go as far as I would have liked what I found actually kind of encouraging was the fact that he managed to be somewhat competitive without even utilizing half of Hakan’s more advanced techniques. So I’m quite confident that ,like UltraDavid, some of you guys will eventually be putting these doubters on notice after you have some success with Hakan in tournament play.

@Keho: Very nice Hakan man! Your approach is solid and yes I hate fighting him as well :grrr:.

Hakan has several matchups in SSF4 where, on paper and in theory, he should straight up dominate but it turns out to be much tougher during actual match play. Balrog with his comback ability, his"get out of jail free card" low jab and mid range pokes is definitely one of them. Not much more advice I can give you other than to keep the unsafe slides to a minimum, nail down the timing on his DDT loop and vortex in general (maybe attempt some more meaty slides post landed OS) and train yourself to react to his jump in attempts. And if you manage to oil up and think about maybe using OS FADC/DNC be sure to only use short/jabs because anything else will be nailed by Rog’s EX heabutt. Same applies if you try anti-air DNC when he jumps in, best option is to use fwd + standing short otherwise you’ll be eating those friggin low jabs into THE WORLD!!! I don’t care what frame data exists or whatever conclusions are derived from sessions of theory fighter because I feel that Rog will always be a tough matchup for Hakan.

what happens. If chuns ex bird kick is done with reversal timing? Since you’re not hitting her with a true meaty attack (you can’t be or else her ex sbk would have to be a reversal to get out before your attack touched her), what if she wakes up with cr jab? With ex legs? What happens if she does u2? If she does super?

Ultradavid: Super gets hit by j.mk, ultra 1 whiffs completely, wakeup jab gets hit, EX legs gets a counterhit, U2 only gets one hit on you as the j.mk intercepts it.

Watching those japanese Hakan videos, I’ve been noticing how much he links into cr.LP > lk DDT. Started messing with it and it seems pretty promising, not being able to crouch before the dive connects.

Of course, it has the obvious dive set up draw backs. They can jump, back dash it, or DP it. Due to how quick it is though, it’s near impossible to escape on reaction. If they then get obsessed about escaping, they start taking a bunch of damage from normals. It’s pretty nice to mix in with link to s.MP

Don’t forget about the bait potential against somebody scared enough of grapplers who combo, to apply the “mash DP” method as a fail-safe.

Yeah I love this combo too, so much more fun to do this after jabs instead of plain ol’ s.MP.

I think it’s possible to make it so they can’t jump out of it though. If you look at MP>Dive, they can’t jump out of it and it still grabs crouchers, so it’s probably just an issue with timing.

I think when you do c.LP into LK-Dive, you can delay the dive a few frames so that it will catch jumpers too.

More online Hakan. Will try and apply some guard position shenanigans and CC’ing in season 3.

A couple of matches against a really tough Seth player. So much patience required here. Thank goodness he can’t take a hit :bgrin:

Great vids guys. Always seem to learn something new with every clip. Keep them coming.

Some matches against a high Fei Long and a high Honda

Fei Long

Honda

Here some more vs Guy. The matches were sorta kinda laggy… But not really laggy. Know what I mean?

Anyway:

I posted a setup in another thread that avoids Seth/Sagat wakeup DP.

Oil Dive > Dash forward > Dash Back > Jump towards RH

I toyed around with this a little more, and found it to be a crossup setup against Cody/Fei/Sim… then I tried some other characters and found out that it can be unblockable!

The only characters so far are Fuerte and Rog. It might work against more characters? I’m not sure, I didn’t test against everyone. Anyway, what happens is if the opponent holds back, Hakan will crossup and hit them. If they hold towards (to block the crossup), Hakan magically hits on the front instead.

. Sorry about the quality.

Definitely worth investigating I think. Does it work on more characters? Are there other ways to set this up?

IT is unblockable, but you can walk out of it. (as Rog anyway), by pressing back, then forward. However, that isnt the easiest thing to do… good find. It’s just like Ken’s unblockable j.fp.

Two things, you only tested this being unoiled? Second, you believe there’s a catch to this though?

Already been said. AS with the Ken unblockable, you have to block with 1-frame timing, or you can jiggle the directions a bit and walk under Hakan. Or… they could just crouch and avoid it all together.

lol Kokobananaman! I think I fought you in two mirror matches, you beat me good. my Hakan is mediocre >.>

It wouldn’t work when oiled for the simple fact that the backdash would send you flying out of range.

They can also just crouch to avoid it too.

Is this character dependant thing, or just range and timing? We gotta find a way to get this going after slide. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Looks like it works against Guy and Juri as well.

Oh yeah, we did play. I was surprised to see another Hakan, and a high BP one at that.

If you say your Hakan is mediocre, then mine is just bad because I’ve been struggling for days now to get out of the 5.8k bp range. I keep going in and out of it, yet you are a 9k BP Hakan

It’s a lot harder to predict when a EX seismo is coming than it is to predict when a Oil Rocket is coming. The range where Oil Rocket is a threat is relatively small, even when oiled (plus an Oil Rocket attempt is usually telegraphed by a tick or a whiffed move or Hakan just being close). EX seismo on the other hand, is nearly a full screen threat (and, it has no warning sign…plus, she can feint it).

BTW, seismo > burning kick > ultra 1 mid-screen with Viper feels REALLY easy on Hakan because of his hit-box and the way he falls.

Plus, his standing hit box is horribly easy to cross up with Viper’s jump HK. Ambiguous HK cross-ups lead to a free ~400 damage + 690 stun + knockdown…and, that’s without ultra. It’s crazy.
