thats some good stuff right there!! Thanks for posting!
Aaay, folks. Remember when I said that I had no recording equipment? Well, I guess I do! Who to thunk that my little camera could record decent videos.
The quality’s not perfect, but it’ll do. Anyway, here’s that video against the Dhalsim that I talked about:

This was from a match a couple of weeks ago. Give me your thoughts, folks~!(though, I’m sure a lot of those thoughts will be that I’m a crappy Hakan. I know this, though)
couple of DDT opportunities missed, but you managed to hang in there. I find Dhalsim’s cr. HP can be a real pain in this matchup. We’re all crappy Hakans at the moment (including myself), its still early days.
seems like you got away with sliding around all over the place, that sim gave your slide wayyyy too much respect lol
good shit with the psychic super at the end, that’s what it takes to come back.
Hilarious endings for both Monir and Ultimate’s videos.
Ultimate, my main advice is that you use more focus after oiling up against Dhalsim. a DNC move I live by is c.HP. it covers so much ground and is really fast. After focusing a limb I’ve been able to hit that limb with c.HP, or stop Sim from using another by counter-hit. I use c.HP vs fireballers too. I’ve had great success focusing a fireball when oiled, then DNC into c.HP to CH the next FB and ultimately within Rocket range.
The last part killlllled me. Was so funny.
Also, I liked how there was some interesting setups and mixups in there along with crisco’s. Nice job.
I’m glad you all liked my video, I hope I learned you something also, that Hakan is dangerous in the right hands!
Can someone explain these ddt setups? Or at least direct me to the part of the Hakan forums that cover it.
Thanks in advance!
UltraDavid uploaded a video that explains the basics of DDT setups:
Other users such as reaper have posted more possible setups, but I can’t get my hands on the posts, sorry.
lol. Wtf is up with that oiled up b.lk. Haha.
So, Hakan 720 beats T.Hawks? Does this also work vs Gief?
“So, Hakan 720 beats T.Hawks? Does this also work vs Gief?”
Yepp, it works against T.Hawk and Zangief, the timing is hard though XD
some non-projectiles that EX oil will avoid
All you really need to know is that typically, everyone has a few standing frames right as they wake-up from knockdown. There are ways for them to get around that, but essentially most knockdowns are DDT setups. So what you do is get a knockdown, and time your 360+k so it’s grab is active right as they wake-up, and it will often grab them even if they’re holding down the whole time. Try it in training mode. Set the dummy to crouch, knock them down and practice grabbing them with oil dive as they wake up. Even though the dummy is constantly holding down, you can grab them as they first get up. It’s actually quite easy too.
Now THAT is a badass video. Some serious knowledge came from that video. Good stuff!!!
If Hakan is a joke character, he’s a REAL FUCKING GOOD joke character
It looks like your wavedashing in the end lol
Aaay, folks! I got more Hakan goodness for you! I recently played a set of about seven matches with a fucking awesome player on Live. I’m not sure if he posts on SRK or not, but just based on his skill, I think he would. I think he mains Fei-Long, Guy and Cammy. He played as those three, in addition to Dudley, Makoto and Adon. I’ll post the first four matches we had, and I’ll upload the rest later.
vs. Fei-Long:

(the first match. This guy’s got some pretty good Fei-Long links, and just general Fei-Long skill)
vs. Fei-Long:

(the second match. I think he wanted revenge for losing.)
vs. Makoto

(the third match. His Makoko is by far the best I’ve played so far, even though I don’t think he even really plays her to a serious extent)
vs. Guy

(the fourth match. He tore me up here. I’m not too experienced on the Guy matchup. 'Course, it also didn’t help that I was using Ultra II in very scrubby ways. Old habits die hard.)
I think my biggest failings as a Hakan player is that I use slide a little more than I should(though it wouldn’t be so bad if I remembered to FADC the long range slides) and I hardly DNC. Using DNC a lot more often would probably improve my game a lot. That, and I need a crash course on some SSF4 basics, like backdashing. Hakan’s got an awesome backdash when oiled, and I should take advantage of it. Oh well, I’ll keep improving my game and be able to actually hang with great players like the one I played in due time.
Some good stuff, not bad at all. I too realized just recently how beneficial DNCing really is, still haven’t gotten the input down as consistently as I would like but I’m definitely noticing a big difference. You seemed kind of hesitant to throw out too many oiled up FWD + standing RH’s or go for air grab attempts against jump ins. Really important IMO to establish A to A dominance with that grab because it just makes his other AA options that much more effective. Otherwise some really solid Hakan play.
Below is some footage of a Hakan player that I happened to stumble across recently. Although he did miss some opportunities to oil up in key situations I was very impressed by his usage of Hakan’s air grab and footsie game, especially his block strings and links. He also goes for the FWD + Standing RH follow up after jumping strong which I liked as well.
A lot of weird things happen in those videos.
For example, an Ex Rocket beaten by a low short by cammy. The kick input appears after the rocket one, and the ex grab is invincible anyway.
Or a wake up game with throw vs ex rocket again, both with 3 frames startup, the rocket input is completed exactly when the throw one appears, and Hakan still loses.
I really hope it’s just the lag.
- Hakan was out of range for ex spd against Cammy
- EX spd is not throw invincible
