Hakan Video Thread: Ready for Action!

Huh?

1st it was online so anything can happen. 2nd Guile is a hard matchup for Hakan. 3rd Itabashi missed a couple of good ddt setups that could have won the match for him.

well supposedly Daigo, Mago, and some guy named Tokido have all said Hakan is the weakest character in the game according to this guy

and as I was playing a marathon session with Hakan last night it seems everybody knows he only has a couple of things to watch out for and blocking d/b takes care of those pretty nicely, sorry I am just a bummed out scrub Hakaner right now

The thing is I think people are giving up on him too early. Honda was TERRIBLE in the beginning of Vanilla, but stuff was found out and he became really good. Just takes dedication. And even if he is weak, the tiers are so scrunched it’s not that big a deal.

Also Guile has been around for 20 years, while Hakan, just a couple weeks. Whoever is calling it quits on Hakan this early, is a quitter in life as well. Shame on you.

EX oil sucks in that match-up, needs to ex slide, he placed his ultra very poorly.

Poongko playing hakan (skip to 4:00)

!

hakan is ass, but he will be fine lol

itabashi did great. he only made some stupid mistakes which cost him the match
lol at itabashi trying to do something in the last round after knocking daigo down, i think he messed up execution-wise because all he ended up doing was jumping over him to end up in the corner, and then just randomly jumped up and did lk

As with almost every Poongko video I’ve seen, his opponents suck so much that learning whether Poongko is good and whether his tricks are useful is too hard to make watching him worthwhile.

Both Itabashi and Poongko are really underwhelming. I think they use oil poorly, don’t know all the tools oil gives, don’t use a bunch of Hakan’s tricks, and play too unsafely. And yet Itabashi did ok against Daigo @Guile. That bodes really well for Hakan’s potential, imo.

THIS ^^

was thinking the same

I don’t know, I think Itabashi played really solidly (even if he made quite a few mistakes). I would agree he should have taken advantage of the benefits of oiling up, and maybe should have jumped around a little less and ate less booms, but he showed that sometimes giving up the oil for that extra knockdown seems worth it. He did slide after landing spd several times, which is a great way to set-up for a 50/50 and potential knockdown. If he oiled up in those instances, he would probably have to work his ass off to get close to Daigo again. Think about it, after those slides which got Daigo in the corner, what if he delayed his ddt and caught Daigo backdashing? That’s another 200-something damage on the spot, Daigo’s in the corner, AGAIN, and plus he can oil up WITHOUT giving up pressure. I think this was what Itabashi was gunning for, but his gameplan was executed poorly.

That empty jump Ultra was actually a really great read in my opinion, the only problem was that Daigo broke pattern randomly for once and forced a whiffed Ultra from Itabashi. If Daigo backdashed, thinking Itabashi was attempting another ddt setup I think that Ultra would have landed. Really smart on Itabashi’s part imo.

One thing I’m really upset about in the match was that in the last round before Itabashi lost he had so many opportunities to ex slide to punish those booms.

I definitely think Itabashi would have benefited from some criscos and Hakan shenanigans. He obviously did not watch Ultradavid’s awesome videos lol

best part of that poongko video was the EX ddt that ryu epicly failed against… seriously wtf was he thinking.

Poongko is a great Ryu/Seth player but that’s about it. Most of his comp sucks completely (even some of the other korean “pros” are pretty mediocre).

As far as the Itabashi match goes, I think he missed quite a few occasions. Also, the few japanese Hakans I’ve seen seem to not use oil much or at all. What’s up with that?

It seems like they think his slide is the shit and that’s all that matters. It just looked like Itabashi was wailing around not knowing what to do (his reactions are gdlk though)

Eh, trying to stay oiled all the time is imo not great play. It’s perfectly fine to play some portions of your matches without oil. For one thing, in some match-ups (ie Honda) it really isn’t doing all that much for you. Hakan is not garbo without oil.

Hakan can put on quite the guessing games just by staying oiled S+BB=LK-Oil+Guessinggame! Airthrow=Lk-Oil+Guessinggame(+DDT setupg*); LP-SPD=HKOilfor a hughe amount of time and a perfekt nice distance (forward forward+c.HP)

i would say some time you can skip the oil part for a guessinggame but anything else just go for it and start the game after^^

That’s pretty much why I advocate lk oil so much, but it sounds like a lot of people are at a loss when their oil runs dry. It isn’t so bad.

It really isn’t as bad as I first thought. Especially if you get a knockdown into a DDT setup. With the DDT setup you are almost guaranteed a 50/50 mixup and a huge chance to oil up. Oil is very very good for Hakan when he is waking up though. Without oil, Hakan has almost no wakeup game.

Yeah his wake-up game Without oil is 90% game mechanics with a little oil slide out of late cross-ups or silly shit like that. When you don’t have oil, sure 360+p sucks but his DDT setups are unchanged, and his lp+lk grab is most excellent range! You’ll see me use his regular grab a shit ton in my videos, sometimes even when oiled (partly because I’m dumb and sometimes if the opponent does a reg grab my oil rocket gets beat). When opponents tech your grabs, it seems to put Hakan at that perfect range, where if they jump you have plenty of time to react with j.mp or if they don’t you can command normal their ass in some fashion or another. He simply isn’t trash without oil! He can still j.mp->slidenpress, still has air grab, still has DDT game, still has an excellent normal grab range, still has a lot of shit, just less range, damage, and no DNCs. You can still get oil rockets cleanly out of blocked focus attacks too.

I can’t stress that in some fights oil just isn’t that big a help, and Honda keeps coming to mind. I’m not saying don’t oil on knockdown or anything, I just want to reassure everyone that you really don’t NEED oil all the time to be effective.

Hakan Combo Vid, etc.

Nice! Really interesting the combo on Dhalsim (on his jumping fierce) i hope this works not only near the corner!

how is everyone getting the f.fp to combo after the focus attacks, it always completely whiffs for me?
