End User License Agreements are the worse thing to happen to gaming.
Actually these are the worse thing to happen to consumers.
If you don’t understand what the first sentence in this post has to do with the issue, you are seriously not well versed enough to have a discussion on this issue or to reply to this post.
Well I can see how everyone feels that way, realistically I think they had a budget for xxx amount of characters, but instead of only doing that budget, they stretched it and made more than the budget called for, to compensate they ask people to pay for this extra work as “DLC” like they have with past games. Except this time since the DLC is made ahead of time, they put it on disc so they don’t get raped by XBOX’s fees on DLC data charges, and secondly people don’t have to download the update to be compatible with other players who do pay for the characters. I guess they just didn’t count on people finding out so quickly, I think people are more butthurt because they found out before the game was even released.
lolz whut? free DLC happens all the time! and what is this nonsense? if more content is available, it becomes incomplete? No…no it does not, just because DLC exist doesn’t mean that its content that is necessary or renders the current game as incomplete. DLC is a expansion, like with time and time again with MMO’s and other types of games, DLC is a way to breath new life into a game or to add additional content. Additional content does not render your current game as incomplete…it just have all the extras…that same thing could be said about hardware, If your PS3 doesn’t have a HDTV, MOVE, TE fightstick, or a Headset…does it make it any less complete?
Its the 6kb unlocks that makes me irritated like its some trial version. i’m not in a rush for them 12 charcters, I’m still learning the rest of the cast. But I am not happy that i will have to pay for them 12 characters though. It will be funny when SF x T xxx edition comes out, they will be using the same disc because the DLC already on it, but the march 2012 version will be deemed worthless like SF vanilla n MVC3.
yeah i have the vanilla versions of SFIV and MVC3 in the never ending collection of games i have…just collecting dust…kinda sad when you spend money on the CE too…but oh well I hate GOTY editions more…at least with those two i didn’t have a choice…still pretty bad though.
Oh god this. I’m afraid to think about how much we would be paying for all 12 characters if they had to put all the data on the marketplace. Agree or disagree with their recent business practices, you can bet your ass they would be making up the difference by gouging us, the consumers, in which it would lead to another bitchfest. “$5 PER CHARACTER? FUCK YOU CAPCOM YOU BITCH!”
I think his point was this. The community’s mentality went like this: SFxT before announcement and discovery of 12 DLC characters = complete
"Awesome game! Looking forward to it! Can’t wait!"
SFxT after discovery of 12 DLC characters on disc = incomplete
"WTF?! THEY HAVE 12 CHARACTERS ON THERE?! FUCK THEM FOR SELLING US AN UNFINISHED PRODUCT!" ****
Basically everyone was fine with the game until someone decided to hack the disc and reveal Capcom’s future plans, which changed everyone’s opinion on what “complete” really meant. Suddenly the game is incomplete because Capcom had future plans for the game. That’s what he means by it being subjective.
Its simple. They finished the game and then decided to cut out a portion of it and charge us full price. Were paying full price for 75% of the game. Its brilliant business strategy, great for the shareholders but bad news for consumers.
I hate to make this argument loop for the 500th time but…why is it the game is incomplete without the 12 characters? I don’t remember the game being unable to run without Cody and Guy. I also don’t remember any of the 12 being promised although Cody and Guy were **strongly hinted **at. There was a leaked list that was rumored and then when it came closer to released it was confirmed but no one bought the game thinking “Can’t wait to play Cody Guy Elena Lars Lei, etc etc.” That’s just gravy really.
Well since Capcom is now trying to “cater to the hardcore players” or whatever, we’re going to have to pay extra to learn 12 matchups. You cant go to a tournament and be like ahhhh fuck those 12 characters and expect to do well.
Well put, and I absolutely agree. Sucks we have to pay $20 in order to stay tournament competitive. So its technically “incomplete” for the competitive community. I can understand and agree with that.
im pretty sure thats really what all the fuss is about and frankly, i cant blame those people (i feel the same way honestly). i dont think if it was just random dlc that was included on the disc that capcom tried to be hush hush about, people wouldnt be going bananas. the problem comes into play here because id say 85-98% of people posting on these forums (not just sfxt) play fighting games (or just games) to be competitive. of course having fun is a priority but generally people want to be competitive and win and do well. when capcom charges $60 for a game and then tries to sneak in 12 extra characters for further money, it totally hinders the competitive scene.
I did buy the game thinking ‘can’t wait to play as Cody’. Sure, the others were never a guarantee. But they showed a full commercial with Cody and Guy walking down the aisle to the ring. Don’t even TRY to cop out of that one. Halo 4 has showed trailers of Master Chief and Cortana. How do you think people would react if the game came out, and you found out instead you were a useless character named Jimmy, and you had to pay extra money half a year later for Master Chief, the Assault Rifle, and Cortana, and Radar…even though they were all on the disc already.
If the characters weren’t already complete, I would actually side with Capcom possibly. But the truth is, the characters are right there, complete and working, and I already have them. They’ve ALREADY paid to work on the characters, and test them, and do voice work. They are 100% complete, and its hard for Capcom to tell us that they won’t be available for 6 months when another console launches. If Capcom went bankrupt today, or decides “fuck it, not enough people bought the game” and dont release it, what then? That’s the stupidity of this. I don’t want ANY company putting DLC on a game disk and claiming its for later. That means you gave me an incomplete game. You had more stuff to include, already knew about it, AND had time and money and ability to get it on my disc. GTFO of here telling me it will ruin you if we play it now.
They basically told everybody who bought the game to fuck off, because the Vita version is more important to them
Your argument is justified and I can support the fact that not having the characters in the game right now is a disappointment. I don’t think anyone is arguing against that fact.
What is arguable though is the fact that Cody Guy, AND Haggar mind you were in that “trailer”. It was in no shape or form a commercial or advertisement for in-game footage. Its like seeing a Call of Duty trailer then complaining that the particular scene in the trailer doesn’t look as good in the game. Sure it may look worse in game but nowhere in the trailer did they guarantee it would look like that. Right now you’re trying to argue that Cody and Guy should be in it simply because they were in the trailer for 5 seconds. Were you and many others misled? Yes, that was wrong but it happens in every single game trailer ever made. There is always something in there that is not going to be in the game. I never once saw a “featuring” character trailer for Cody or Guy nor did I see gameplay trailers. Had they put those out in a similar fashion with the other 38, I would be on your side with this. But they didn’t. It never said “Game represents early gameplay footage, this is not the finished game” which shows up in all the gameplay trailers.
If you can point out in this trailer anywhere where it says “ALSO FEATURING CODY AND GUY IN GAME!” in bolded words and then it shows in-game footage of them then please do it and make me shut up.

I’m not denying its a dirty marketing tactic, it definitely is. But again it happens with all trailers even for movies.
Again valid argument here. But lets flip it to another perspective. Ignore the fact that they are charging for a second (just for the sake of this argument, I want people’s opinions). Will the game be unplayable and ruined for you now that you can’t play those characters? Are you not going to play the game now? Lets say all 12 would be free but you still can’t play them for 6-7 months. Is the game incomplete? Or is it ok now because its free?
