nova is a very bad match-up for shuma, mainly due to nova’s insane throw game. also shuma can’t even use L stare because nova can air dash H before it recovers. my strategy against nova is to stay grounded at all times and cr. H any air dash approach, block and punish grounded approach, and then once you are point blank you have the advantage and can go ham on him with the mixups. nova can’t zone you that well because you can absorb his energy javelins easily. just remember air mystic smash against nova = death

So after almost a year of searching I’ve finally found someone within 2 hours of me who is actually good enough to force me to use my main team. I still win the super majority of the matches but I do have to use my primary team. /that being said, after just 2 grind sessions I already have him cursing shuma’s name. Still makes me smile when I can do that.

How am I supposed to move this thing? I know he’s low tier, but I have an easier time getting in with HAGGAR, FFS.

Has anyone experimented with a zoning Shuma yet? Mystic Ray H has a 3 frame recovery and fills the screen with a 10 point projectile, enough to beat most other zoners minus assists. Admittedly, the 28 frame start-up is a bit scary, but I’ve noticed that most players online (take it with a grain of salt) can’t seem to counter Shuma/Strider until I fuck up the input.

Does Shuma have an instant overhead?

Fun Facts about our favorite Elder God:
-Worst throw in the game. Does HALF the damage of a normal throw while absorbing a trivial amount of meter and health. On top of that, all the normals that OS into suck. Should you combo off of his airthrow (can’t after the ground one), scaling is so bad that you almost have to go for a reset.
-Devitalization only absorbs ONE HIT of any projectile, making it useless against almost every real projectile thrower in the game.
-Air Chaos Dimension cannot be mashed.
-Hyper Mystic Ray is Shuma’s fastest level 1, with 20 frames of pre-flash start up and another 4 post-flash. While the first 18 frames are invincible, that doesn’t mean much because it sucks at all ranges.
-In fact, Hyper Mystic Ray is MINUS 88 ON BLOCK, making it the second most unsafe move IN THE GAME at point blank. (Viper’s Burst Time is -99, but at least she has actual full screen punishes for one bar and the hyper itself is otherwise better in every way beside range)
-The projectile angles after Hyper Mystic Smash are all random.
I’m sure good Shuma players already know this, but this is still a pretty shit collection of “unique” things about the character.

You can combo off every throw and if you’re anywhere near the corner you should get at least 900k with a full combo. Solo that is, with assists you can settle for less damage and a dirty reset or get more stares off.

Really? Is there a video of this or something? I do feel that Shuma might be a scary character if anything about him made enough sense to mold into a coherent game plan.

To be honest, nothing you listed in your other post is a major problem with Shuma (though the non-mashable air Chaos Dimension is stupid, but not really a problem). Shuma has no way of moving around the screen easily. He can be jabbed or even grabbed out of Mystic Smash. His only good cross up air attack (air M) isn’t an OS throw so it’s way to easy to throw him out of it, and his air dash isn’t anything special.

If you get your opponent in the corner, he’s scary there. Getting your opponent to the corner is a chore though.

Sorry to all caps, but I made the game temporarily switch sides while throwing Frank during his roll. It reverts after the throw, but the concept is there. Going to try and get a video up if no one beats me to the punch.

Have you guys ever experienced shuma’s hitstun animation being wonky? I ask because he flies higher into the air when being hit by purification than other characters and I have no idea why.

If you do HCB + H, and then plink into LM you get option select throw xx hyper mystic ray super. The HCB is the motion for the super and its literally like throw is 1 frame, super is 2nd frame. Useful option select, not sure if already discovered
