Shuma vs. Zero feels like a loss at the character select screen. The only strategy I can think of is to be very patient, block very well, and try to land a cr. H in between charged buster and lightning etc. This is difficult when Zero has missiles or beam behind him. Honestly I find this match-up worse than Vergil.
did good with point shuma team at TRB last night. I think my success is directly proportional to how many zero’s I have to face.
…keeping this forum alive myself I guess
I made a tier chart for Shuma based on characters he has the most/least problems facing: http://www.mmcafe.com/tiermaker/umvc3/index.html?tc=ya0-trf3bbhf5pade4m28ikkcrg94dal9xcj7390cqaj8iawcqdo5pja5pci9xi98jei73e59ymfcrgzbdeb4dgb8kd7bblsa0ikcriubdg8e4fj5qi3e68p9xcg8icce5np9zjze76u9wjua0k68if7308m8igncref8ibt5qctcoib73hw9zge73e9e4bdbbg19y00naeqcq-bkf-naShuma%20Gorath%20tier%20chart
In practical terms I think morridoom might be on top, but I was trying just to focus on single characters
Actually Hawkeye/Taskmaster can zone shuma without being touched with brain dead effort perfectly over and over.
In regards to your tier chart. Felicia is more 50/50 imo, air S can beat dive kick and most of her ground stuff is easily punished. I have more experience in this matchup than any other shuma player i’m sure. I still don’t think the haggar matchup is bad and Shuma has advantage over sentinal imo. I also feel shuma goes even with storm, their isn’t much she can do about just c.h and she isn’t a big airgrab character meaning u can go offensive pretty easily.
Oh, don’t pay attention to the vertical and horizontal line…I wasn’t placing characters in regard to above/below it, just in relation to each other. I consider the row with sentinel, felicia etc to be the 50/50 or better for shuma row, so we’re in agreement there. I don’t know what haggar’s you’re playing but Shuma has really zero options against him…pipe beats everything, lariat beats everything, shuma can’t really zone or approach him. Honestly I probably put haggar too low. Storm I feel is bad because her standing S shuts down everything shuma does, and her mobility means she doesn’t have to let shuma touch her if she doesn’t want to. She really doesn’t have to do anything in the match-up, and her air throw isn’t bad and leads to combos. I have a lot of experience playing against dios-x and it isn’t fun.
I know I keep promising some amazing shuma xf3 bible and I have all the notations and combos figured out and recorded by I just absolutely hate video editing, its boring and I just can’t seem to get myself to do it.
I’ll probably just upload tiny pieces a bit at a time.
For now heres the XF3 combo with shuma that works anywhere on anybody, does 1.1m and builds 2 bar, doesn’t need any bar. Starts off cr.L
Please note that this is the simplest way and easiest way to do this combo. There is variations where he doesn’t cross the opponent up and just carries them straight but that one only does 1m
so I decided to upload this one. Again its all recorded just lazy
and I Just found an even more damaging variation. Damnit whatever. This is now a concept video! you guys get it
So XF3 midscreen and corner basic combo is now 1,166,200 with about 5k buffer depending on character size. Builds 2.2 bar uses 0
edit: 1,176,500 2.3 bar 0 bar used
edit2: 1,204,800 2.35 bar 0 bar used
edit3: 1,253,200 if you use 1 bar at the end so he can effectively kill the entire cast off cr.L in xf3 consistently.
Thinking about using Shuma. Curious how he fares vs common point characters (wolv, mags, etc). What are his bad matchups / why?
check out my tier chart a few posts above - that should give you an idea of his bad/good point match
good games to @masudunkillyall on xbl the other day. unfortunately got cut short due to a phone call. definitely leveled up his shuma, although shuma vs shuma is always weird as hell. a few times I think you should have gone for a meatier combo instead of a reset but that might have been due to online etc.
thanks man, ggs to you as well. Midscreen I almost always go for resets just because its easy and works nearly everytime on unsuspecting opponents (but you caught on fast to that). I probably cut some combos short as well due to online, I hate going for those hard shuma combos and nearly finishing them and then dropping it because of lag. Also P.gorath, I love my shuma/dorm/hawkeye team, but I feel as if I need a better anchor/assist for shuma. I’ve been looking for someone to replace hawkeye, but can’t find any suitable replacements…any suggestions?
ideally you use a projectile/beam assist like hawkeye’s but that stays on screen longer to give shuma the maximum amount of time to get in. that’s why spitfire twice is so good, but then you’re stuck with raccoon anchor. dr strange bolts is also great but he’s another awkward anchor. Unibeam I don’t think is worth it, task arrows don’t stay out much longer than hawkeye’s…missiles and drones are always good of course. You could always pick one of these guys and run them second and put Dorm on anchor.
I’m deciding to pick up Shuma myself, and I’m wondering: How well does his mystic ray assist do against MorriDoom?
completely useless during astral vision, mostly useless the rest of the time
Profound…sadness.
Ray doesn’t get rid of the missiles?
It doesn’t even get that far, to my understanding. The long startup of Mystic Ray means it’ll get thwacked by a couple of Soul Fists from behind before it can do anything, and even if it did the ray isn’t a true sweeping attack, so one or two missiles will still make it through and harass you.
I’ll probably try the coon as anchor (or possibly second and put dorm last) as I’ve put in work with the character before and know him decently well. Also, I’ll be able to do some of those nasty incoming setups tonosama does with the spring trap super, l.trap and either raw tag shuma in for the mixup or lock them down with HMS.
oh yeah the other kinda bad thing about spitfire to keep in mind is that unlike most of the other beam assists, it’s not going to stuff a missiles or drones assist call, which can be problematic
Don’t underestimate its also a very low projectile, meaning not great at stopping short hops.
short hops get cr. H’d
Still liking Hawkeye in the back more, maybe disruptor could be a good assist? I’ve always wanted to learn magneto but just never put the time in.
Also, how do you guys feel about the shuma vs. nova matchup? I’ve tried nearly everything I can think of against the seemingly endless flood of derpy nova players online, and I feel it is a very hard matchup regardless of assists on either side. The only possible way I’ve found to do well is by playing extremely solid, ex: blocking perfectly in the corner, waiting for the inevitable forward H overhead and grabing him, or waiting for the inevitable c.m slide somewhere on the screen and beating it with my own c.m or j.m, but as you all know, waiting for an opponent to make a mistake in online marvel can be (at times) a bad thing, as well as an extremely hard thing to take advantage of. Any suggestions?
