I’ve never really been a fan of Shinkiro. Of course I don’t want to take away from the fact that this guy is extremely talented. Whether I like his work or not, his work is definitely top notch quality.
Yeah, I’ve never liked his style either. I’ve always felt that his realistic style doesn’t suit this kind of cartoony-looking games. However, I ended up actually looking forward to his work with MVC3, for the sole reason that he’s the closest thing to a competent artist that has drawn artwork for this game. He actually manages to capture the essence and personality of the characters that he draws. And that is a breeze of fresh air, since the artwork for MVC3 has mostly been HORRENDOUS.
Seriously, there are some pieces of artwork for MVC3 that I can’t believe someone got PAID for drawing.
If you’re talking about the box cover art for the original MvC3, I liked everyone but Hulk. But I don’t blame you for not liking it. It was definitely an acquired taste if you ask me.
Alright guys, you’ve all made great points, but no need to start insulting and getting all passive aggressive. This thread is for the benefit of ALL shumas. If someone is running Shuma then you should at least give them the benefit of the doubt since they have somewhat of a similar taste to you. You’re not gonna change anyone’s opinions here. You can suggest and argue until you’re blue in the face (or sore in the fingers as it were), but someone may still think Doom’s missle assists suck with Shuma and some think Frank West is a bad teammate for Shuma. Get over it. Still wanna try? Then actually give a good reason as to why. Just don’t say “Oh well that sucks. You’re so dumb. Blah blah blah is soooo much better with Shuma because of blah blah blah.” Actually take the time to explain why you disagree with the person.
And snadmonkey? Don’t insult the user-base of Shoryuken when you are acting like a perfect example of what you’re trying to mock. You’re making a generalization and that includes me. Not cool brah. Not cool.

I like having Doom on my team for his beam assist. It has a quick startup, beats out most other beams, and is relatively easy to protect. I’ve never really been a fan of missles because I don’t usually find myself in a situation where missles has been beneficial to me. I use Cap’s shield slash assist as well, but I hardly wind up using it. Any thoughts on his Charging Star/Stars and Stripes assist? I may just start practicing his Stars and Stripes assist and try to use it as an anti-air.
Keep in mind I have little experience with assisting in general. I just started trying to implement assists in my game. The reason I run Shuma/Doom/Cap is because I’m good with all 3 characters and 2/3 can easily deal with most of the cast on their own (Cap and Doom).

I just noticed that the strategy guide acts like you can mash chaos dimension at the end of air combos and other air situations…very interesting…

…anyway, I finally got a decent assist to back up shuma so I’m going to hit the lab hardcore to actually get some decent combos out of him for once…since as usual, all the ones we have so far are terribly flawed for the most part.
So past two days I finally started playing marvel again since final round, (which i should have made top 32 in and am very salty I did not) and man playing online is infuriating. Every single player online just picks teleport characters and doom and spams teleports and footdives. I forgot how online delay basically makes them unbeatable strats. Offline I will air grab wesker teleports all day, online i try and eat ABCS kill combo. It infuriates me so how much online delay favorites these types of chars.
Well for one thing there are way too many teleport characters in this game. Atleast Wesker’s doesn’t track…
how is ghostrider, nemmy and shuma
Ghost rider is bad unless it’s vs deviljin. (jk) Nemesis doesn’t benefit from shuma for approach. Shuma’s assist is extremely slow, and it’s just going to get blown up. Shuma as a crutch is not that effective. He’s a scary anchor, but not something you want to rely on.
Shuma’s best position is on point with 2 good assists, but he can pass for second if he has a very strong assist. If you put him second, your first character needs to have a super that makes his dhc safe. For example, if you have wolverine first, and dhc from beserker rage or w/e it’s called into hyper mystic ray/smash, it’s not going to be safe, and you’re going to die. That’s why I run magneto first. Shockwave covers the entire screen, so they are forced to eat hyper mystic smash which puts them into the position where either…
A) I can get in
B)I have a good spot from fullscreen where I can call drones/disruptor and play some keepaway with mystic ray/stares/more hyper mystic smashes.
Its pretty easy to setup a safe DHC from wolvie into shuma.Though unless you are close to being chipped out DHC’n just to switch is kind of pointless so that really shouldn’t matter for team construction. Imo the team just lacks defense, like what is that team possibly going to do against just Nova +akuma type pressure.
Also since the best part of shuma is his assist, he never should be the point character on a team.
shuma cover ghostrider and nemesis weak spot and xfc 3 shuma is very underrated - also ghostrider can some what protect shuma when called, same goes for nemesis and they all dhc well.
Go for it I guess, but it honestly doesn’t sound like a very effective team.

xfc shuma still cant do shit against half the cast w/ assist
was trying out shuma in training mode and was wondering what were the differences between the versions of mystic ray and stare. From what i can tell mystic ray L has fast start up but slow recovery and H is the other way around. With Mystic stare the speed and distance of the projectile increases but so does the recovery with the stronger versions, is there anything else i should know about these? And which versions should i be using for each in combos? currently im strictly using mystic stare L mid combo and the H version for the Mystic stare xx HMR ender, i dont see whats the use of mystic stare M.
Also what are his best mid screen combos? i was trying to get down his mystic stare > launch > air combo xx mystic smash into relaunch down but i cant do it very consistently and im not sure which version of smash i should be using, sometimes smash crosses up and ends up ruining my charge for the 2nd mystic stare.
To be honest you should really be using mystic stare M In The corner, makes follow ups easier. And use mystic stare H for command grab resets. Shuma’s mid screen combos are extremely spacing dependent. If your kinda far go into strange gaze then into mystic smash L and if ur too close go into mystic smash L. This is assuming you started off with jump loop. If you start with relaunch you will end up on the other side, hopefully closer to the wall, go Into jump loop, you should be at the corner. Command grab reset into whatever. In the occasion where you don’t cross up go directly for command grab reset.
So, I’m new to the forums here. I have always enjoyed fighting games but just seriously started getting into them (going to tournaments, casuals etc.) when mvc3 came out. Since vanilla, i’ve always played Shuma so i decided i’d introduce myself in the Shuma thread. In Ultimate I run Doctor Strange/Shuma/Task. I find that this team has smooth synergy, they utilize each others strengths, while also covering their weaknesses. I’ve never found anything fancy between them, just solid game play. I’m always down to play new people, so feel free to send a request on live. Tremble.
