Gyah Kita Ki (My demon brethren): The Firebrand teams and assists thread

Im referring to setups on incoming characters.
If im charging hells missile H, and jam session hits, converting that hit into a full combo its really inconsistent, at least for me.

So I want to finally start practicing with one team in this game instead of jumping around to a bunch of characters so casually. Firebrand and Arthur are my two favorite characters but I see FB being much more viable while giving me variety of who to pick as teammates. Probably going to play a Firebrand team and a Haggar team, so maybe some assist overlap would be good. FB Team ideas (looking for comments and critiques):

Firebrand/Nova/Amaterasu
Firebrand/Doom/Amaterasu
Firebrand/Vergil/Dante
Firebrand/Dormammu/Doom

Other characters I would enjoy learning: (frank west, arthur, deadpool, modok, dr. strange, v.joe, haggar)

I see certain advantages to each team but am probably most interested in the 1st and 3rd teams if the synergy was there. I’ve heard about Firebrand/Nova tech but not seen it. My execution is pretty bad but I’d like there to be characters that push me to grow quickly. Thanks in advance for any input.

My personal feelings are the those two are the stronger of your options. I myself run Firebrand/Nova/Doom and it works quite well for me.

What nova and doom assists are ya using? I’m really interested in fb/nova synergy beyond a good dhc. Hard tag after bon voyage? I also figure he is a high damage character to make up for firebrand if he goes down.

Pro tip: Nova is not where your damage is in a Firebrand/Doom/xxx team. A Doom TAC combo does a crapton of damage and Photon Array DHCs perfectly into Dark Fire

All four of those teams have a pretty great chance of working. If you’re going for quick and easy results, the Firebrand/Vergil/Dante team is probably your best bet, with Firebrand/Dorm/Doom close behind.

    Not saying you can’t use them, but their synergy with Firebrand is pretty limited.

Nova’s gravimetric pulse assist is a great neutral asset and gives me more easy unblockable setup options from bon voyage in the corner. The incoming mixup game i can give my opponents is just retarded. I gotta compile a couple of match videos to show off for my team. So far my youtube only has random combos using my team. My Doom assist is missiles, i like it for extending my combos and the qcb super when i thc. I also got a unblockable i can work that off of from the corner when i snapback opponents. But for hard tags after bon voyage, i tend to get Doom in there to do the damage and either finish it with his supers or tac in Nova.

Hey peeps, do Firebrand and Skeletor have any synergy?

They do, or at least Tasky offers some to FB. Marvisto uses V Arrows to setup an unblockable follow-up after a standard BnB. Or, if you prefer, H Arrows offer their usual great horizontal coverage. Their THC and DHC options are actually pretty good, too.

I feel like we need a more comprehensive list of assists/ways to setup unblockables. I have a feeling that Iron Man’s repulsor blast may work to set them up in multiple occasions, maybe Modok’s bomb too. I tried doing a few tests with Storm’s Double Typhoon but the positioning and timing were really hard for me (assuming it can be done). Regardless I didn’t find storm to be a terrible partner while using whirlwind as an assist, there are simply better options. Did some matches with Firebrand/Storm/Doom (missiles) and had some success thanks to the amazing THCs.

I run Firebrand(A) Vergil(Y) Ammy(B). Best thing ever as far as FB/Vergil tech I came up with is a DHC unblockable.

With Firebrand: c(L, M, H, S) sj(M, M, H2 xx kidnap) dashback, s(H2 + call vergil, S, H, S) sj(M, H2, S) dark fire, DHC belt*, j(d+H) j(d+H) s(S, H xx *release, L) tag firebrand, s(L + call ammy, L xx H demon missile)

H2 = both hits of H

  • = hold for round trip

The part in the middle right after the kidnap is a generic vergil assist setup you can use as long as it’s early enough in the combo. Once they bounce off the wall, dash back and hit H + A1, let H hit both times, then hit S. This won’t launch them because it hits during the 5 hits of rapid slash. When they fall down from getting hit by the rapid slash, relaunch with a single hit H into S and continue the combo.

Once you DHC, the timing of the helm breakers is a little weird. The first one has to be fast and low so that it brings them back down to the ground, the second one is also to bring them down, but is delayed so that it hits near the end of the belt. The belt pushes the opponent up when it hits and if they’re too high, the standing S H misses.

Which brings us to the round trip and standing L. This is what makes the unblockable. After all the combo type stuff, standing L pops them right out into a neutral state, and right after the L finishes, Firebrand tags in. While he is recovering from the tag the round trip hits from behind, you standing L into ammy, and demon missile.

Something I’ve also found is a combo that gets you into Luminous body in the middle of it.

c(L, M, H, S) sj(H2, d+H, L dive) s(H2 + call vergil) c(H xx kidnap xx luminous body, H, S) sj(H2 xx kidnap) dashback, s(H + call ammy xx M fireball)

Here the kidnap in the middle whiffs completely, but moves you close enough to continue the combo after rapid slash carries the opponent a screen away. The standing M fireball at the end is a very fast cancel from the standing H, and is there to prevent forward techs (the bane of most firebrand setups). This puts you in a very nice hard to block situation where you can go for the regular FB/Ammy high low BS.

I was actually thinking of making a team inspired by Marvisto’s Friedbrand Skullface synergy. It was going to be them with Dorm at the end.

I think Firebrand/Dorm/Task would work better overall but neither is bad. My opinion is just that Dorm teleport + Task arrows is a a better shell than task with dark hole, You would also have access to the Firebrand + Dorm DHC extensions and unblockables like Zak Bennet uses.

Dormammu’s teleport + Aim Master L is so slow that Dormammu will get j.M out before the arrows reach your opponent. It’s not worth a lot.

However, if you have Firebrand and Dormammu on the same team, you definitely want Dormammu second to abuse their excellent DHC synergy.

I tried F/T/D out, then I tried using F./D./Akuma, which I ended up liking way more. I haven’t really played with Firebrand since ultimate came out, and that was when I still used pad. He’s pretty fun, and technical. I haven’t gotten used to the unfly timing just yet, but I came up with a few combos with dorm dhc/assist extensions that do a decent amount of damage, and I understand the unblockable setups. I just need to practice, and remember that Fb doesn’t have an 8way dash, haha. Probably gonna replace Akuma with someone else in the future.

Vertical arrows? I know you’ve used them with Dormammu, and you can do the ghetto Marvisto unblockable for what it’s worth.

I know Firebrand gets unblockables off of Aim Master H, but I’d use Aim Master L with Firebrand. He needs the horizontal support to mix people up and get in. Aim Master H is solid for Dormammu. With Dormammu second on the team, you already have two unblockable setups and ToD combos (expensive ones), so I don’t see Aim Master H as offering Firebrand anything over Aim Master L.

I feel if you’re going for horizontal neutral support then either L arrows or drones is your best bet IMO. They both come with decent characters too.

Drone Assist gives Firebrand horizontal coverage and an awesome okizeme game. But L arrows is so good for just moving forward and cornering the opponent.
I like skeletor but I like Sentinel better due to his DHCs, appearance, Human Catapult, and Hard Drive.
