True. Really it seems to depend on the other assist. If Task is gonna be the only character with a good assist H arrows is better, but if you got another character with a good horizantal move (beams, daggers, drones, triple arrow) probably would be a better idea.
I was running Zero/Firebrand/Akuma for a while now and I just switched to Firebrand/Dormammu/Akuma a few days ago.
Firebrand and Dormammu work so well together. Dormammu allows for Firebrand to do so much. He gets TAC extensions and a GREAT DHC, along with Dark Hole (Which is slow but Firebrand makes good use of it). Dormammu can also use Firebrand’s assist for a corner combo extension (assist+Flame Carpet, Dark Matter, Dark Hole, Chaotic Flame). Firebrand can use Stalking Flare well and has a good DHC in Luminous Body. He pretty much fixes Firebrand’s damage problem.
Firebrand and Akuma are a really good pair too. For those asking about Tatsu with Firebrand, it helps him a lot. It allows him to rush down so much more and just bully the opponent. It allows for instant overheads outside of Luminous Body and the THC in the corner is damaging. XF2 before doing it does around 500k. And since Firebrand’s combos always end in the corner, you can TAC into Akuma (Up or down) and do two hypers or do one and do another TAC after it back into Firebrand, who can do j.H xx QCB+M over and over until he hits the ground. Akuma also provides a good anchor for this team and confirming off of Tatsu is pretty easy with the use of Bon Voyage at the right time or running up and doing j.H, Devil’s Claw.
I’m still learning about Dormammu/Akuma but having a GTFO assist is seeming pretty useful. And I’m sure as I get better, I’ll be able to use teleport mix-ups with it. Having two beams is nice, too.
The team’s THC in the corner is really damaging, too. However, now that I have Dormammu, just doing Zak Bennett’s DHC combo after doing Dark Fire into Stalking Flare seems to be the better choice. The timing on it is kind of strict though.
Overall, I’m really liking this team.
My Dormammu is ass right now though.
so i’m leaning toward firebrand/ strider/ phoenix or Chris/Firebrand/phoenix… firebrand builds excellent meter, and can do the unblockable by himself, or off of strider/Chris assist… its easier to set up and more reliable with Chris, but you lose a great neutral assist… also firebrand strider is good for keepaway. yet chris has more health and will keep my team from dying so fast… idk… what do you guys think?
I think with the advent of X-factor TAC anti-Phoenix tech, she’s lost a lot of her ‘effectiveness’. Unless you’re really good with your mixups and rushdown, having a team of all squishy characters would leave little room for error when most of the cast can kill your character off a hit-confirm.
I’d suggest the latter team, but with maybe FB on point versus Chris. Or just drop Phoenix and put FB as anchor for Luminous Lvl 3 Xfactor shenanigans (much more superior to L3XF Dark Phoneix, imo)
what is the zero/firebrand synergy like?
Zero and Firebrand don’t really offer a whole lot to each other.
Assists
Zero desires either a beam or lockdown assist to help him with mixups and combo extension. Firebrand can fill this role with Missile M or Spitfire H, but none of his are all that great to begin with, so they aren’t the best for Zero.
Firebrand wants a lockdown assist even more than Zero, also for mixups but also to possibly set up his unblockable. Zero’s assists are also pretty mediocre and don’t really do what Firebrand needs.
DHC
Probably the area where the two work best together. Both characters have really good power-up hypers that you can DHC to make almost any attack safe; they also make each character’s assists better as well. Dark Fire > Rekkoha does pretty decent damage, though the other way around is pretty bad.
THC
Not great except in the corner, but since Firebrand combos almost always end up there this may or may not be a problem. They both OTG.
On top of all this, both characters have terribad base damage. Zero can somewhat mitigate this with his endless combos and Lightning Loops, but Firebrand really relies on his teammates to pick up the slack.
In the end, they’re both really good characters so I won’t say the pairing would be terrible, but I also think they benefit a lot more from a variety of other partners.
So… One. Night I woke up and was like Trish/firebrand!!! Or vice versa… Trish gets a otg and lockdown, while firebrand gets unblockables off of round harvest DHC and peekaboo assist. Plus with the peekaboo assist, there is no escape. Air teching makes it hard to evade it, unless u have sentinel hard drive or hagger lariat… Plus luminous body DHC into max voltage for assist punish isn’t too bad… Plus I play Phoenix so this team can build a good amount of bar, or TOD. Thoughts?
Firebrands OTG isn’t really fast enough to work with Trish. It can work, it’s just not as good as Trish’s best friend Weskers.
Trish and Firebrand also deal very little damage, so you have a duo that has lots of tools but will really need to put in the work (the primary reason I stopped playing them.)
Ur right, not enough damage… Idk who else to use besides Chris, or spencer… I hate Dorm, doom and Ammy, who else could help firebrand/ Phoenix
Are you looking to be competitive or for fun?
Both… I’m not dropping Phoenix tho…
I really don’t Firebrand and Phoenix make a good team. Firebrand builds, on average, about 1 bar of meter per combo. However, he deals virtually no damage in doing so.
Compare to Doom or Magneto (or even someone like Hulk) who can deal serious damage while not spending meter, and Firebrand doesn’t seem like the best option. Firebrand does his best work when he’s stocked with meter and has 2 team mates behind him.
Trish on the other hand works real well with Phoenix. Play Trish/Morrigan (meter build)/Phoenix together and you have got yourself a party.
Korbidon is right. Firebrand and Phoenix require two very different team builds.
If you insist on keeping them together (not recommended) and don’t want to play Doom (who makes a great partner for both Firebrand and Phoenix), then the only person I might suggest is Magneto. No one else really has the damage/meter build combination to help either one.
Ok. I completely understand everything you guys are saying… I might just go with doom. It’s just with sooo many different characters in this game, you would think most characters would work together… Lol
Hey, any time you’re just playing for fun, go nuts. You might surprise yourself and us by finding a combination that works. Hell, you can play FB and Phoenix together, it’s just going to be harder than other combinations because of what we mentioned above. Or, if you’re really attached to both characters, make a team focused around each one! That way you not only get to keep playing both characters, but you have more options in matches as well.
To be honest, most characters in this game work well together. It just that you will be playing against people who have sought to make teams that work EXTREMELY well together :-/
I really want to use a team with both Ryu and Firebrand on it.
Is Ryu/FB/Sent or FB/Ryu (hadoken assist?)/Sent doable?
If not, who else could fit the 3rd spot?
When I first started playing Firebrand, I played him on a Firebrand/Ryu/Sentinel team
It’s a fairly basic team. You get drones for pressure and you get a good DHC into Shinku. Only problems are that you have Sentinel anchor and Ryu is kind of just average.
I did enjoy the team though, even though it struggled against better designed teams
With Ryu’s Hadoken, you can call it, shoot a light fireball, wave dash 2-3 times and do a c.H into s.S for a full screen hit confirm.
hsienko/fb/ dr strange.
does anybody have good tech with these characters? i know this is a long shot but thought id just ask haha.
Eye of Agamotto is good for unblockables.
