Guy Ultra SF4 Changes

I was wondering the same thing. I felt like I was slacking in the first Thawk match I played in Ultra

So the big body combo, on cammy you can connect TC after it.

I’m coming to the conclusion that red focus is almost worthless if I have close to 4 bars, especially if I’m in the corner. I mean…mid screen I guess it’s worth it, but if I’m in the corner, TC > lp hozanto xx super does 430, if I do a jump in it’s 470. What is the point of me using Red Focus Cancel with Guy?

Damage+ stun, Also you can close in on more damage with Super in the corner

Anyone else get the impression his run slide has a much improved hitbox? Also, running overhead seems to have better startup.

I could very well be imagining things though because I don’t remember either of those things being documented improvements.

I’m really loving the improved walk speed. That, more than anything, was what he needed to feel like Guy. He’s still nowhere close to Alpha speed, but it’s a marked improvement and helps his footsie game tremendously. Overall I’m very pleased.

Overhead actually feels a little more sluggish to me weirdly enough, just not significantly so for my use of the move. I pop it randomly during Run-Stop pressure to get in some hits while they are trying to bide me out in cr.block; I would have actually liked a few frames removed from start up just so the average scrub wouldn’t feel confident sitting in crouch block and eagerly waiting for Run-Stop pressure. You shouldn’t be happy playing that guessing game against Guy.

two hits is more consistent with the run overhead from what ive seen, elena still ducks one hit so does rolento if theyre both crouching though…

Was messing around in tm. VS dwu you can combo into slide (dwu) backdash ex flip to beat Ryu’s shoryu.

I’m screwed over by Elena because I genuinely can’t tell where the hell her hit box is. It’s like using Kamui ala Obito the way move pass right through her character model.

^^^^this a million times this. and then with them mashing cr.lk it gets frustrating

Kinda feel that Guy got the short end of the stick when it comes to red focus cancels sincen none of his special moves RFC very well. TC>RFC not connecting at Max range is sad in comparison to Yun’s MP>shoulder RFC ultra, from the tip of Yun’s elbow.

Yeah, we shouldn’t be whining , with all the buffs we got, but it’s annoying.

I’m surprised you can’t Red focus the third hit of BCC tbh. You can essentially only sensible RFC off normals or TC. I go for st.:hk: -> (slight pause of 1/2 frames) -> TC -> RFC. If you give the delay before the TC you give enough time for the opponent to reel from the close st.:hk:. That’s really important because the :hk: actually pushes hurtboxes back (you notice character’s heads rolling back and then forwards again for instance). Waiting means your TC will be hitting from a closer distance than hitting on the first frame. Your RFC will seem to ‘just about make it’ both in terms of reach and hit stun. That’s because it is. You’ll be hitting on the tip of your RF Attack on near enough the last frame of TC hitstun. Dash forward and continue as you wish.

While you can walk forward in those pause frames it has one distinct positive and negative. In walking forward, you will be able to visually see exactly when Guy is able to move - because he’s walking, lol. You can practice for less than 5 minutes in training mode holding forward after close :hk: and letting go as soon as you seen Guy moving forward and then pressing :mp: to do your TC. The problem with this is that :f:+:mp: is a unique attack so you need to distinctly let go of forward before you hit :mp:. This isn’t obvious. Much like inputting :qcf: and pressing :p: a couple of frames afterwards will still net you a fireball, just because you let go of :f: before you hit :mp: does not mean you’ll get neutral :mp:. And this is much more annoying with the likes of online lag.

Because all Guy’s specials either put your opponent in the air or floor them with a grab, he was never going to be able to RFC out of them. The only possibility would have been Run-Overhead, but that would require Guy to be on the ground during the frames immediately after the 2nd hit, which to be honest could be added since we don’t use recovery frames for aerial purposes anyway. Now that I think about it, Run->Overhead being FAD Cancellable could prove to be very useful.

A tasty corner RFC combo I’ve been using (best if opponent is dizzy with minimal scaling)

Forward jump HK > close st. HK > RFC > close st. HK > ninja sickle > EX hozanto > HK tatsu

If you have ultra 1 available you can do that after the ninja sickle, or you can do the big body combo instead of the ninja sickle.

Otherwise yes I agree, red focus combos are not Guy’s strong point.

And yes…Elena is so annoying! I don’t actually think I’ve lost to her once, but it is so infuriating fighting her. She seems to have the same hurtbox as Blanka doing his under fireball crouch! That and her jump arc is ridiculous. She’s so difficult to antiair and some of her air moves appear to have crazy priority - I’m looking at you upside-down kick!

At first I wondered whether I just wasn’t used to seeing her moves yet, but she really is just awkward. How can you be in range of her cr.lk and Guy’s mk.BSK goes over the top of her?

Guy
far HK recovery was NOT reduced by 1F. Self hitstop was reduced by 1F on hit/block (this means he is 1F more advantageous on hit/block but no change on whiff)
EX Tatsu time between 2nd and 3rd hits reduced from 5F to 4F
U1 4th hit also moves forward slightly now
U2 All hits changed from juggle potential 0 to infinite juggle potential (not sure what the point of this one is since U2 can only hit grounded since it’s a command throw) TEST REQUEST

Guy’s unlisted changes, idk how much of this has any clout, but doesn’t really change anything about him.

She adds a whole new meaning to ‘low profile’. Just crouching normally she is low profile enough to avoid normal and bushin flip elbow drops. So when she does a low profile normal, it makes her even lower to the point that she’s literally unhittable. I wouldn’t be surprised if she could duck under low tiger shots lol

What the heck? Damn if only we could use it as an antiair juggle grab like Abel’s falling sky lol. Ninja sickle > EX hozanto > ultra 2 would be so sick!

What’s this to do with then? I was thinking it might be to do with the end of a focus crumple where the opponent is considered in a juggle state? But then Zangief has always been able to ultra 2 in this state, and that move has no juggle potential (e.g. cannot do it after a KKK lariat). My guess is it’s something to do with delayed ultra 2 after a focus crumple shrugs

Idk I guess we’ll do testing later on I guess see if we find anything.

How does W Ultra affect Guy’s Ultra’s ?. I heard some characters like Gief who have 2 viable Ultra’s only do 60% damage, where as other characters like Viper do 75%. I almost exclusively use U1, and still don’t land Ultra’s that often online, so having access to both would give me more chances to use the meter. I have W Ultra on in training and both Ultra’s seem to do exactly the same damage as before, am I missing something ?.

Guy does 75% of his original damage in W ultra
