Guy Ultra SF4 Changes

Guy on a video using HK>MP>BS to punish, is it a better option than HK>bushin chain?

Perhaps after a focus crumple or a stun but otherwise it doesn’t do more damage

At 1:14 in the video, the close stHk, stMp ~ Medium Tatsu? That is a solid punish for the mid-screen because it doesn’t require meter, does 280 damage, does big stun and pushes the opponent towards the corner. Close stHk, Bushing Chain ~ Ex Hozanto is arguably better but requires 1 bar of meter. I’ve been using close stHk, stMp, ~ Medium Tatsu punish for years and it works good for me. In fact, Its rare I see anyone use that because close stHk, Bushing Chain ~ Ex Hozanto is so good, even though its cost a meter.

I also Quite Often it pushes farther and also if the opponent doesn’t know, you can do and an Immediate EX Bushin Flip after a MK BSK where all three hits connect for the un-crouch-able Slam as well if they have a Habit of Quick Rising . If you have the read on them

Problem with 2 frame tatsu isn’t it’s “opness” as a reversal or antiair. Sure it makes guy non safejumpable, but you can work around it.

What I don’t understand is that this makes Guy unique in punishing stuff that nobody else can. Usually only grapplers and some supers had the luxury to do so, but for whatever reason they decided that guy could do the same. It shuts down a lot of options from other characters (ie.: dan kicks, yang slashes, yun shoulder, etc.).

If you don’t play Guy then you won’t get it. Play Guy brain dead - you lose. Try to stick to rush down tactics - you lose. Fail to force your opponent to make mistakes or take bait - you lose.

So much of the utilities of Guy are broken down by… mediocre knowledge of the match up. His Instant Bushin needs to be precise even when tiger knee’d and beats no other air grab in the game. His floaty jump is easy to see and with wonky normals like his cross up mk that might not hit on cross up and mp elbow that isn’t even designed to hit on cross up, his anti-air BSK that can’t be done in the air and has awkward coverage between l,m,h & EX and has an alarming blind stop to fuzzy guard spamming. And two over heads that without 2 frame BSK cannot combo into anything, have no direct super guard, have average damage and stun and alarmingly obvious startup frames and are easily punished on block or counter hit with any cr.l in the game.

Guy has a wealth of tools built to punish behaviour that you can’t force as Guy. Anything that can’t be blocked from crouch can be stopped by a cr.l or low profile attack.

All anti-airs, punishes and reversals used by Guy a more likely to give your opponent a counter hit then punish accordingly which most familiar opponents will know and naturally build no fear over.

Giving him an immunity from safe jumps and an ability to punish like SPDs and also punish SPDs themselves? I would rather some new frame & hitbox data that might provoke opponents to stand in fear of a being punished from crouch by a combo or HDK that can’t spam cr.l at - but this is what they gave us.

Also 2 frame reversal is pretty cool, I like the change. No canned safejump setups, only stuff to possibly make it whiff if you cross it up.

Pretty sure Guy have above average damage from most of the cast in his arsenal with no meter cost, and doesn’t require FADC to get that high damage either.

Yes his punish damage is high, his hitconfirm damage is kinda average, and damage from trades/frame traps is also pretty good

watching NCR and I see why they Say Marq Teddy loses to someone who knows the Guy match up. he did like 18 bushin Flips that got punished pretty badly just now.

I said that, and anyone that has a ground game beats him, cause honestly he didn’t approach on the ground safely at all.

2:35 and he did a run overhead combo right righ after the start. I read somewhere that cr. lk doesn’t work after run overhead anymore??

Before anyone goes nuts, there is a japanese vid of Guy doing an EX tatsu “FADC” into U1. Likely fake for one big reason, he’s cancelling into Run-stop.

Was it definitely a combo? I can’t see the left side of the screen where the combo no. would have come up but the run overhead hit Viper twice, which you can’t combo from. I think he got a frame trap counter hit from the overhead which he turned into full combo punish.

It was definitely a counter hit combo, but not a frame trap. But then…who the hell starts a round with run > overhead? Poor show! lol
