Baiting isnt really an option in that level as opponents can throw out quick safe AA normals. Some players even react to elbow drop by walking forward and low profile smack. After playing Guy mirrors, I gotta say, his jump really is easy to react to, elbow drop or not.
Guys jump really just needs to catch the opponent sleeping. A fireball is thrown, charge char just walked forward, opponent is building meter, etc.
I agree with this. You can not only react to the elbow cancel/flip with low profile moves, but also ultras, Ryu, Seth,Rose etc etc.
Guy’s jump sucks and it brings him down a whole lot in the tier levels. For a slow jump like that, he probably needs Sakura’s air priority with normals or something - but instead they give him two buttons, jumping medium and heavy kick , and his other normals are pretty much pointless.
j.mp works similar to j.hk and works well for Air-to airs as does J.HP. Guy is mostly focused on ground game, you shouldn’t be taking to air much often to begin with.
By the way, I know this might sound petty, but is it too much to ask for Sudden Stop to have no voice clip? Sudden and silent, just like a Hayate Cancel. I think the sound only makes it easier to react to, unless Capcom intended to do that.
Actually, depending on the match-up, it doesn’t always mean that you only focus on the ground game. My point is, besides the MK and HK, you have no real reason to use any other buttons, they have no varying functions. They’re just there.
Just my 2 cents… The idea of changing guys jump is stupid. Guy has always had a floaty long jump. Its part of his character. Its part of what makes him diff. Not all characters should have the same distance jump or the same speed. Its what makes playing against diff characters diff. Its also why he has a elbow that changes his trajectory.
Now what makes guy diff in this game jump wise is before normally his jump attacks have generally had pretty good priority and his ground normals(depending on which game you play of course)have not been comparable priority wise. They switched that though in SF4. And with out going to in detail they gave him a lot of ho hum priority wise jump moves, but some of his ground moves are better then they were before compared to the rest of the cast.(again compared to other games)
Id also like to mention though saying that guys elbow having a farther hit box down would not switch combos as much as youd think. There are many characters with jump attacks aim straight downwards with their legs that you can combo after. If its the issue because bushin flip elbow to combo is tight timing already. Its always been tight in games, its just that the move before always did a fierce hit worth of stun, but generally(besides a3… and i forget cfj)has done chip damage even on hit and has a set amount of recovery. Just the way the move has always worked, youve never gotten easy true combos after it. And for just regular elbow drop it should not change it because again there are many characters that have jump attacks with their leg aimed straight down that can still combo after attacks just fine.
I understand what you’re saying, but this often mostly works in theory and not so much in practice. My point though, was that Guy struggles to punish things with jumps such as fireballs because of how slow and floaty it is and I’m well aware of baiting things with elbow drop. However, even in your example matchup, a good Sagat will start reading your elbow drops and just kara dp to punish the elbow. Obviously you have to mix it up, but still, I don’t think this detracts from the fact that Guy’s jump is ass for the most part, and that punishing things such as fireballs with his jump takes more effort (and overall skill/reads) than with other characters.
Also, as far as Guy jumping in high level play, it’s pretty much non existent. From what I’ve seen, the best Guy players stick to the ground game, and rarely take to the air. Even Marq Teddy’s overly aggressive style sees him going airborne with bushin flip instead of jump due to it being faster and harder to react to.
ultimately, its what changes the rest of the cast will receive that effects just how well off this character gets in ultra. The tougher match ups are what we should be looking at like honda & zangief or any that may arrive out of those changes.
i doubt very much that guy’s jump arc will be changed, nor is it even being considered. it functions as part of guy’s design; if translations hold up, ayano stated as much.
Jesus… guy is getting some solid buffs and somehow it goes back to how he is such a flawed character… First off his jump is not useless at all, just like nebbiez said you got to learn how to use it, and learn how to play a ground game lol…
And ultra 1 starting up 1 frame faster would be great cause counter hit cr.hp into ultra 1 would be 2 frame link .
Standing lk being a non chain-able attack change frame data for
recovery from 11 to 6
guard stun from - 3 to - 1
hit stun from 0 to 5
can someone else confirm if from 22th frame of bushin flip that after the 13 frame start up of the elbow drop, it has 7 active frames in the air before completing the 8 grounded frame recovery cycle as Guy contacts the ground?
if they aren’t willing to go for the hit box extension for flip elbow drop then we should ask for those 7 if not all 8 of those ground recovery frames to be changed to airborne state
fixing/correcting guard damage on flip eblow drop is a given just on principle alone, by one’s integrity as a being a skilled fighting game maker, they openly asked for our feed back for any issues or problems and suggestions
I was so hyped by the new far mp, guys; When people came here to say that it was the same and still bugged and that elbow drop was the same, I was thinking at least my second main, chun we’ll be good now. hahaha fuck me it was all bullshit, they’ve already removed her new jump, im expecting the worst. why it’s always the good characters (rog, ken etc) that are buffed the most?
That new jump was bullshit. With the priority of herair normals it should be a slower jump not 36 frames. Also Ken is just a contender and he will receive changes, Rog is the same way with only one notable player succeeding very highly.
This is ridiculous blood, wasn’t expecting an eventhub level of comment here. Many character have both a good air normal and a good jump juri Rufus or even ryu to name a few, there is nothing op in that. Anyway the jump has been sped up only in the descending arc it wont change anything in air to air. It will only help her punish fireball with a jump in like 80% of the cast.
Hey Ultra is coming in France in two weeks, hope it s a new build you people want me to test something?
YEah it’s not like she has crazy cross up shenanigans etc…maybe it was a little too fast but yeah I’m not a fan of floaty jumps either and saying “not all characters have to be the same” doesn’t really justify them.
Speaking of CHun i just posted a set of me against a chun player in the video section if anyone’s interested.
EHubs? I’ve stated it several times that Chun with a 36 frame jump is too good, especially with all the buffs she got, having her dominate the ground and air to that level is just not even fair. I even stated previously that her jump should be 39 frames not 36, so don’t come at me saying I said an EHubs comments when made previous comments against her jump even after witnessing the jump firsthand at NEC.
In America you only really have NGL.Chris for Ken and PR.Rog for Balrog. But Japan has got some SICK players with those characters. I hope Michael Tan and Momochi both make it to EVO to showcase their Kens next year. I think Oni is going to be a huge problem in Ultra…for the whole cast but especially for Guy. As he is already in AE2012 he completely shuts Guy down in every way. Anyone who disagrees needs to play omh (overmostheads) in a long set and see how awful this matchup is. Then on top of that they’re giving him a faster step kick, longer range focus attack and an FADCable DP. I know there’s been a lot of talk about this over on Ehubs after wao’s show at Topanga, but I’m calling Oni for top tier in Ultra right now - 7.5/2.5 in the Guy matchup. It’s gonna be a train wreck!
I remember playing OMH…it was quite tough but I do remember winning as well. Maybe he got really good with Oni cos I haven’t played in so long. I might be back to the UK in January for a bit -and hit up XBL…that’s gonna be nostalgic! (but I may get steamrolled.)
Yeah, I can definitely see what you mean in that Oni v Guy match. I kinda hope to see a wider variety of characters though, a bunch of my friends have been talking about picking up E Ryu, Guile, and Juri cuz of all the changes. No one seems to care about Guy though :c
