Thanks guys!
so has anyone found any good gem set ups for Guy yet? I know chances are it might change after the patch but curious to see what people come up with.
Depends who I’m facing…if it’s character that can trap you really well like Asuka or Lei, I’ll roll meter gems so I can get them off me with alpha counters. If it’s Guile or a character that I’m gonna be chasing alot, then I’ll go for damage gems.
Setups I most commonly use, should note I did buy some gem packs, specifically to work with Guy…
All purpose, don’t do quick recovery stands unless I need the meter
#32 Perform Knockdown Recovery 2 times, 20% damage boost 15 seconds.
#269 Perform Knockdown Recovery 2 times, 400 meter over 10 seconds
#284 Perform 2 Counterhits, 300 InstaMeter.
The “You’re probably going to die if I catch you while this is active” setup. 40% damage over 15 seconds:rofl:
#2 Connect with 10 normal attacks, 20% damage boost, 10% speed reduction, 15 seconds
#3 Connect with 10 normal attacks, 20% damage boost, 15 seconds
#284 Perform 2 Counterhits, 300 Instant Meter.
or
#273 Connect with 10 Normals, 300 Instant meter(mostly this with Tekken characters with long strings)
Meter Gain Overkill setup-useful against matchups where I figure they’ll burn meter too.
#263 Get hit by 2 EX Special Moves, 400 meter gradual restoration, 10 seconds
#269 Perform Knockdown Recovery 2 times, 400 meter over 10 seconds
#284 Peform 2 Counterhits, 300 InstaMeter
This was the free gem set I used for a while, swapping #203 for #2 when I needed it.
#2 Connect with 10 normal attacks, 20% Damage Boost, 10% movement reduction, 15 seconds.
or
#203 Block 10 times, 40% cross gauge acquisition rate, 15 seconds(this one is in free gem trial pack)
#205 Have attack blocked 4 times, 20% cross gauge acquisition rate, 20%, 20 seconds
#214 Partner connects with 1 Launcher, 40% Cross Gauge gain increase, 20 seconds
I like meter, but occasionally it can be a lot of work against Fortitude gems, so depending on character selection I’ll run the 40% damage setup with Guy and use the heavy meter gain stuff on my other character. The Motivation and Resolution gems are spectacular because you can trigger an activation, switch characters, and still earn the meter from the character that’s going out.
I’ll probably start running the 2013 default sets for damage/meter if they only allow those in tourneys.
I typically go for gem setups that have longer active times, and at least 15% damage boost or 20-40% meter gain if they’re Immense power/Onslaught respectively.
Damage and Meter outweigh the need for Speed Gems to me with Guy, He’s got plenty of options to close in without them. I don’t use health gems ever, but that’s just me.
Sweet thanks AlphaZero this gives me a better idea on how to approach gem set ups and such : )
what about speed gems? to alleviate Guy’s floaty jump?
i go for meter myself though… i rather have more options in general (especially now with EX Run)
K played a bit of version 13 with guy, you can do his J.HK>S.HKbushin chain>JC>J.HK (has to be timed)>TC>tatsu
This only seems to work on average sized characters such as Ryu vs characters like Rufus its possible but timing must be changed
made a quick video of this last night with his changes… A pretty obvious thing in the game(at least I thought it would be)yes he can tiger knee cancel his moves now from bushin stuff which is kinda fun.
Oh and Guys S.LP doesn’t hit crouching opponents :c
So how can I go about comboing into hisair grabs I heard that was possible as a combo ender thanks to 2013.
As a noob I am already loving 2013 Guy definitely my point for a while. What with his chain buffs I don’t really have to worry about that whole stupid linking thing that has prevented me from enjoying capcom games for years >_>
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using Tapatalk 2
basically works best off his target combo. LP, MP, HP, HK
You can actually jump straight up and hit the air grab. Easier than jumping forwards imo.
Do you have to tiger knee the air throw after bushin chain?
No, as soon as you do the bushin chain, do JC>MP as quickly as you can, then cancel the MP into his QCF air throw.
Also Found a new corner combo using this, J.HK>S.HK>TC>QCB+LP>Bushin Chain>JC NJ>QCF Air throw, it does quite a bit of damage but it isn’t his most damaging corner combo and obviously you can switch off of it, but its good if you want the hard knock down and it looks stylish too.
…Also doing his QCF air throw isn’t his best option after the bushin chain since once you JC you can do just about anything such as J.HK>TC>Tatsu and then let your other character switch in and get even more damage…
Thanks dude!
You can hold up as soon as the MP connects in the Bushin chain and he’ll cancel soon as HK hits.
Do the Bushin Chain, start inputting Tiger Knee Air Izuna fireball input around HP on Chain, and use the up/forward input as the jump cancel input. Bypasses the MP, 20 less damage I think
Jump cancel addition is pretty solid, glad they didn’t change the timing on the normal elbow, gonna try jump cancelling into elbow crossup with it.
Bushin Flip changed…Bushin Flip elbow starts up slower, has a visible pause before the drop. Probably be easier to react to. Flip grab seems to still have most of it’s crazy air to air properties, and LP/MP Flips connect the same from close/midrange because it puts Guy close to them while airborne. Seems like they made the grounded character grab range smaller, but in changelog it only mentions activation timing…
Two hit overhead works as comboable tag cancel, but works far better the shorter the distance the incoming character has to come from.
Frame traps and general setups seem pretty much the same,
TC>Run Stop>Throw is way more consistent, nobody was able to tech out of it on me. Probably one of his best setups now with the recoverable life being taken away.
Bushin Chain ending with throw does some great damage, throw doesn’t erase recoverable life though. Full cornered, you can Throw and hit st.MP, but they drop afterwards…or maybe I’m just too tired to get it ATM lol.
Bushin Chain popping them straight up lets you combo TC>Tatsu immediately if you want to tag cancel instead of JCing HK.
Ninja Sickle pops straight up, but pushback doesn’t make it too practical so far…
EX Run Stop with Armor is a solid addition, I usually save EX for Run overhead ground bounce, adds another element opponents will have to guess against.
They should have reduced the pushback on cl.HP(which does force stand), or made cl.MK force stand. It’d be more viable.
Starting messing with Bob 2013 and Guy as a team…kinda liking it so far.
Nice video dialupsucky!
Glad I could help
So even if opponents block bushin chain you can still JC it…this is really good in the corner as after you jump they have to guess between cross up or elbow, from what I can tell this isn’t that great midscreen apart from just continuing pressure with elbow drop. One thing that may be possible is doing the TK cancel from bushin chain which dialupsucky shows in his video, instead of doing the JC, not sure if this does work but I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Either way this is a pretty awesome trick which I’m sure will lead to some good mixups :3
…Also didn’t know you could do bushin chain after a launch, launch>bushin chain>air grab does 359 as opposed to the launch>TC>tatsu combo which does 256. I guess this means if you don’t plan on switching do the bushin combo 103 extra damage is niceeee
…Also again…Guys best damaging in the corner previously was J.HK>S.HK>TC>QCB+P>C.MP>qcb+punch>cs.mk>tatsu just discovered a new better combo which does slightly more damage which is J.HK>S.HKBushin Chain>JC>NJ.HK>TC>Tatsu
You can also do J.HK>S.HK>TC>QCB+P>Bushin Chain>Super
this does more damage then the combo mentioned above but only by like 25 points…I hope I’m not the only one that thinks supers are almost pointless in this game xD
You could do it before, now it’s worth it though:rofl:
Depends on how much meter you have to burn. Motivation Resolution gems can be your friend.
Also having problems canceling throw from j.mp but I assume it is possible. Also doing better with j.hk now that I immediately jc so maybe I will just do the more damaging followup (though I like the oki from throw).
Hey no fair Guy/Bob has been my planned team since August! Maybe with all the help you’ve given me with Guy I can repay a bit with Bob tech. I don’t like to share it much but Bob laughs at the whole idea that boosts were nerfed. C.lkxxcl.mp links into jab, which allows you to do, well, anything Bob wants to do as followup.
