Guy Combo thread: Make em say Hya!

Keep in mind the s.hp will whiff on some characters if you use 2 c.lp. That combo is a block string anyway isnt it? I think the lp hazanto is only unsafe against gief and t hawk.

Goto BnB has been bothering me a lot with Guy. I always get flustered in situations where I have a small window of opportunity but I get messed deciding what to do (or trying to do what I want to). I had been using cr. LP x2 cr. LKxxMK Tatsu (since it’s a similar combo to my main) but that combo leaves a lot to be desired.

I was messing around with cr. LP>cr.LP>St.MP>St.HPxxLP Hozanto and this really seems like the best bet. It pushes people far enough away that they can’t really punish it seems. I tested it on cammy and I couldn’t get a DP or cr.LKxxSpecial out in time at all.

What would be the negatives for using this combo all day everyday?

It’s already been said but it’s one of the safer combos. I believe only Gief and T.Hawk can actually punish the lp. shoulder on block.

MP-HP Target combo can have flaky range now and then (depending on opponent hitbox and all that), so it’s possible to push yourself out of the second hit connecting if you hit your first jabs from too far away. c.LP>c.LP>s.MP->Slide/EX Hozanto seems to be problem-free, but it’s less safe and harder to confirm if you screw up your link.

Ah, yeah because characters like Chun,Rose, viper, all those weird hitbox characters, Ive been able to connect that cr lp.lp. into target combo about 50% of the time, but that make sense.

the link to the st. mp… and i swear you have to input the lp hozanto before the fucking hp is input.

I’m not sure if this was already said but, I think a good mix up option would be:

cr.lp, target combo xx bunshin flip, elbow drop, block string. You can combo after the bunshin flip elbow if it hits deep enough. I found that the cr.lp, target combo knocks the person far enough to be able to combo after the bunshin flip elbow. Works on Ryu and Cody so far. That being said, the timing is rather strict.

Don’t know if this has been said, but in the corner during the chain throw, you don’t have to use EX Tatsu, HK version also works.

Ya, and it’s only 10 less damage right? I guess maybe it just depends on whether or not you have a lot of meter to spare.

Am having serious trouble linking clp clp to st mp to st hp. I know this is Guys bread and butter (Kind of like Ryus cmk Fireball - who I main).

The number of times I catch people with clp clp but no follow up is beginning to exhaust me. Also having a bit of problem with target combo xx hozanto. any tips?

Started doing st lp, st mp + st hp, st mp + st hp st hk for boushin combo which seems to have really worked so thanks for the tip on that.

To be honest… I find Guy’s execution to be quite easy for the most part. His heavy normals seem to give heaps of frame advantage for easy links into either target or bushin combos.

Hardest link I can think of is cr. mp into target combo. Other than that, the only thing I have problems with is FADC U1. Garrr the timing is so strict!

Harder I think for Guy is concentrating on what mixup options to use and also the billions of character specific combos… sooooo many…

Been having some problems with cr.lp to cr.mp and cr.mp to cr.mp but other than that everything’s pretty easy.

I fuck up the boushin combo under pressure but it’s getting easier.

Plink the input for st.MP – most people don’t 'cause it’s a target combo but it’s useful. It’s honestly a very easy link. What’s harder for me is remembering to follow up with a run slide – though it’s less of a problem for me now.

Also, just doubletap the input for EX hozanto. There’s some cooldown after the target combo you need to be wary of. Chances are you’re hitting it too early. Just go into practice mode and feel out the timing. Again, once you get it, no big thing.

Thanks dude. I tend to have difficulty with clp clp st " combos. For Dudley and Akuma as an example I cant hit it consistently. Just gota practice I guess.

Pretty sure a close roundhouse will never be a true bnb,great when you can get it sure,but how often can you really go to that well anyways?

I know it’s debatable but i’m pretty sure any real BnB will end in run slide due to the advantage it gives you and that it moves you forwards and there for more reliable

I’m just wondering if the cl.hk, c.mp, bushin chain works on every character or if it’s character specific. If it’s universal then it seems like a great punisher for those really big whiffs.

I’ve been trying to get into the habit of initiating combos with low short rather than low jab for the hit confirm. It actually hits low, and reminds me the mashing jab = retarded. For some reason its pretty tough for me.

Low jab x2 linked into bushin chain or target combo is cake for me, but low short low jab is really hard. Its amazing how quickly bad habits can form.

Yeah, low short into jab feels like it has awkward timing, I don’t really like it. But one must persevere… the priority on it is really good though. Gotta apply it to my game one of these days.
