on what Azrael said…
this…pleases me. the back walkspeed buff is probably gonna be the best thing he got. it’s going to turn out far more useful than i think people realize. i welcome the return of guy’s footsie game. let’s gooooo

I wanna see U1 and u2 in action if they really improved that much.
This, especially ultra 1. ultra 2 having more range is great, I think thats a given, but i’m confused as to what the buff to Ultra 1 actually is

Make Ex Tatsu focus cancellable c’mon. Give a guy some defence. He should have it if he’s got 3 meters to burn.
Who knows with the EX tatsu buff maybe it will change… I know in some cases LK/MK tatsu will hit the recovery frames from the low profile moves, but that’s a huge risk because of tatsu inconsistent hitbox as well as timing., unless they buff his LK and MK tatsu’s to hit low profile characters. Plus you really shouldn’t be jumping with Guy if the person hasn’t been knocked down. It’s the same scenario in Alpha 2/3 (hardly got to play Alpha1,) With proper spacing you could get Elbow to crossup, but his Mk… you’d have to be a miracle worker to get that to cross up… and if anything it was big characters that would ever get hit. Even in Alpha jumping wasn’t the best idea anyhow because if the person could react well, Characters would be able to beat elbow… or jump in attacks with cr lp or cr mp. So really unless Jump MP and HK get a better hitbox… and the hurtbox isn’t beneath the hitbox Guy should be fine in that characters, Though I’d rather his Cross up be better.
Made a quick video of this just to show… You can “reversal” low attack whatever. To beat meaty cross ups, or to beat gimmick/tricks like bushin flip on wake up etc… really its brain dead. I listed all the moves that work with mashing(IE no timing)but of course again as I say there are other moves that work as well. Anyway so yea it doesn’t even matter if someone is knocked down you can still just mash and it works as if it was a reversal.
Also lk hurricane kick was changed in AE… only in super did it beat low attacks. They switched it in AE to MK beats lows now, and lk now can beat more mid ranged attacks. I made a post about it already somewhere. Its way to specific to be realistic though. And it doesnt help the fact that duck jabs are right in the middle of where you have no invincable frame what so ever on wake up. So you have nothing to beat stuff like that besides EX. And then again some characters have low profile moves in the first place that a hurricane kick can’t hit period…
But anyway yea video has list of all the characters, and I tried to give example of just how it doesnt matter even if you don’t hit guy. You can just use it to wiff and then go into a combo if need be. Also at the end showing that now that guys overhead does not fly over the person. This means teh opponent now could actaully add this more easily to there list of discouragement. As before say if guy did some string to say randomly running over head, if you mash on your low, chance of him going over your head(still not bad but)… but now that he can’t go through you, your low will always hit him, or you can do it to wiff, then punish with combo. So now this option is more realistic for the opponent as well.
The only one that surprises me is Makoto. but that’s because no one EVER used Cr mk for an anti air or much of a poke in AE. Yun doesn’t have the same ordeal as Yun… also who the heck is Fruity lol
Guys walkback speed increase is allot from what I see from the videos…I see us Guy players being able to do blockstring walkback then st. Strong and then link to anything and/or get a counter. Kind of like the same way Yang does his blockstring backs up then does low forward into slash…me likes.
Just waiting to see U1 buff and this mystery less recovery flip grab…
New Test Video’s
http://youtu.be/n1hZI9lF9QQ?t=31m @ 31:00
B: Vs Akuma @ 31:00 you can really see the use of backwalk speed in this one.
Vs DeeJay : can kinda see U1 distance buff @19:06… he slides really far on first frame. Also his very first run slide safe jump he uses neutral HP and a nice use of cr.lk x2 > small walk back st.mk.

1rd Vs Yun
another 1rd vs Yun
Vs Ryu
ENJOY !!!
Ultra 1 now kind of reminds of me of his super from Alpha 3 he kind of floats forward a bit. I’ve only seen it down after Bushin Chain in the corner so i’m not sure how much horizontal range it has. But at the very least we should be able to punish projectiles from footsie range a lot better. Just hope they changed the startup, so it’s a bit faster.
OS > U1’s near the corner have alot more potential … especially against the better back-dashers and i agree on punishing projectiles up close. it can become a very useful punish now with that amount of distance covered.
liking what Im seeing already! U1 looks like he has Ice skates on…LOL
I understand why you did this. I’m tired of playing people who can’t deal with Guy’s elbows, flips and run overhead. Capcom really needs to watch this video and do something about it. If everyone used these exploits against Guy, I think he’d be in a new low tier altogether, on his own.
Try playing an Akuma who will consitently do a cr.normal on any of Guy’s jump ins, into ultra 1. The matchup becomes ridiculous.
Edit: Get the vid on the front page of SRK so everyone can give Guy a good beating the next few months. Maybe then Capcom will listen.
seeing videos like that make me tear up but what can you do ya kno? is there still time for them to fix characters or has the revisions been set in stone?
The real problem is elbow drop since it is used to bait moves. Most cross up can be ducked on reaction (example ryu j.mk) by low profile moves. They cant be beaten when safe jumping, even guy’s.
Im so glad someone finally gets it. This entire year felt like everyone had Guy derangement syndrome. "oh he’s fine he has so many options bla bla’. Just about every single thing Guy has to do to get in apply pressure is not only incredibly unsafe but can be beaten by any button in the game. So if you stop using bushin flip elbow and stop using run to ‘hope the followup connects’ what are you left with? You gotta play footsies but oh wait guy’s mobility is ass…so NOW what are you left with. You turtle. Oh wait your reversal is also ass.
You have a few frame traps here and there but capcom made sure that if you somehow do get a counter hit your combo wont work on any random number of characters for equally random reasons. In case you just wanted to go batshit random capcom also remembered to rob you of any priority or invincibility his moves should have.Through the whole ordeal the most frustrating thing was hearing other guy players downplay how bad he really is.
Im not saying that you cant play guy and win, im just saying that no matter what your approach is to playing him you’re working so much harder than you should be just due to design inadequacies. The amount of variables are just insane. He is not a complete character. It was almost like whoever was in charge of doing guy’s design sat down at 9am, worked till 12. Went to lunch and just never came back. Having said all that the new videos are really making me look forward to the new Guy. Even a few tweaks here and there make the world of a difference and quite frankly im surprised they even did that for him. Here’s hoping they don’t renig the changes after the loke tests.
That;s why i hardly jump with Guy versus certain characters and distances… but the problem is most people even high level don’t know about those flaws, they normally just AA Guy and call it a day, In most cases at the beginning of the match if I score a knockdown or something I’ll test it out to see if that person knows about the flaw, if they don’t then I go for aerial assaults more,
Heh, I’ve fought some players who were able to do those low moves to avoid a lot of my options. Your right that most players don’t know about it or can’t impliment it properly. What I did though was start using a differently timed J.Hk when I thought they were expecting an elbow bait and that seemed to hit them (at least Ryu MK). There still might be away around that too of course but I thought that’s just how Guy is. You really have to just out play and out think your opponent. I think Guy can still win a lot of match ups but you do indeed have to work twice as hard to do it in a lot of cases.
It does suck though that Guy does have a lot of somewhat useless moves. I pretty much think I shouldn’t be using Bushin flip or safe jumps against some players. Not saying that this isn’t an issue and shouldn’t be addressed (lower hit boxes in general for Guy, he has ALWAYS had messed up hit boxes I felt.) but I still feel like there is a lot of exaggerating from both sides of this argument. I do think Guy is low tier though but that doesn’t make him unplayable, just undisirable. I’m not so hardcore in this game though so I’m always looking to hear more of your opinions. Even though those are big problems I think Guy players can find a solution to it to some extent before developers have to step in or do you think this is too much to overcome for Guy. I’d like to get more opions on that from the regulars here.
