Thanks for the answers! Are those prices for the PS3 stick specifically? Also, if I wanted to do the Wii remote option, would the stick simply function as a Classic controller?

Glad to hear that. Enjoy!

The first option would be for either 360 or ps3 stick. The other two prices would be if you get the ps3 stick.

With the Wiimote option it would function like a classic controller.

Finished roxtc’s mod. A 360 R2 TE -> MC+RJ45+white bezel.

Quote estimate + Inevitably dumb questions

Hello Gummowned,

I have been encouraged by shadyn’s warm reception in this thread to post an inquiry of my own. I’m in a similar situation with shadyn in that I do not have enough posts to send a PM, so decided to post my questions here until the minimum post requirements have been met.

Even though I spent time reading this entire thread and also a few other threads regarding the different PCBs available (Cthulhu, ChIMP, MC, etc) ultimately I really don’t understand the technical aspect of what’s going on and just ended up being more confused. So please excuse my ignorance, and misuse of the jargon, and also what is or is not possible to do with mods.

I have two, Madcatz round one PS3 TE sticks that I am looking to have modded. I wanted to be able to play on the PS3/360/PC as top priority, but also wanted to be able to use the joysticks on the PS2/PSX/GC/Wii/Saturn/Dreamcast if at all possible. I have a backwards compatible PS3 if that makes any difference. The PC compatibility is rather important to me since I play emulators and GGPO - but can’t use them on my computers since I have a nVidia chipset. Obviously I’m hoping the xbox “mode” will solve this issue.

I also wanted to get the Arc-Eyes Mod done for both sticks, and can discuss details of the color schemes once I get access to PMs. I did want to find out where a reliable source for purchasing buttons were though. I did look at Akihabarashop and ended up just being confused. I was looking to get the exact same types of buttons (not just sanwa, but the same height/diameter/feel etc) that are already on the TE stick. The only difference being of course that they are some what transparent to fully utilize the Arc-Eyes mod. So if you, or any other kind user happens to know a good model number(s) that I can search for and where I can purchase them, it’d greatly be appreciated.

Speaking of this LED mod, will there be a battery somewhere inside the joystick to run these lights? If so are they easily accessible for replacement for clueless people like me?

I also wanted to get a clear bottom for the joysticks, much like how purplearms has his shown in this video here. I did look at your suggested arthong’s site, but didn’t see any plexi glass (acrylic? Is there a difference?) for the bottom panel that would work. Unless I misunderstood the site stating that it’s not strong enough to replace the metal bottom panel that the TE sticks have. Also if this influences pricing, I did want to let you know I didn’t want to do anything too elaborate with the printing on the clear bottom. Just perhaps a name on the bottom right. If any one knows of a person/site I could get this bottom plate/printing/etching done, please feel free to let me know.

Since the bottom will be clear, and the joystick will be some what of a showcase piece, I was hoping I could get a quote on usage of the cable management sleeves you used for oOViciousOo’s joystick for a neater look. Also I wanted to see the cost of getting oOViciousOo’s solution of just one long cable, plus smaller attachment cables.

Since I asked for some things not mentioned in your first pricing post, I know it’ll be more than this following estimate, but am I looking at this being the bare minimum pricing so far?:

So if I wanted to get everything I mentioned done, it will cost $175 (PS3->360 + Mc cthulhu + imp + rj45 mod + detachable cords) + $40 (Wii) + $20 (Arc-Eye) = $235 per stick? Obviously plus more for the custom additions. Might as well ask here as well, since I’m getting two sticks done, would it at all be possible to do a package discount for the two? If so, I’d be greatly appreciative. After all, I’m probably crazy for trying to spend this much on two joysticks. But what can I say, I love fighting games :).

Quick Version

  1. Cost of Madcatz Round 1 PS3 TE stick to play 360/PS3/PC vs. 360/PS3/PC/GC/Wii/Dreamcast/Saturn/PS2/PSX

  2. With cost of Arc-Eye mod (plus suggestions on buttons that are the same as the TE stick ones)

  3. With cost of Clear bottom plexi glas/acrylic

  4. With cost of cable management/wire sleeves

  5. With cost of single cable + shorter connectors à la oOViciousOo’s stick

  6. Will I still have quick disconnect buttons so I can easily swap them/replacement later?

  7. Will I get the left over spare parts back? (i.e. buttons, etc)

  8. Package discount possible?

I think this covers most of the questions I had. I did wish to assure you that as soon as we hammer out the details I will be placing an order (i.e. I’m not wasting your time by window shopping). Thank you for your time and I’ll eagerly await your reply.

Regards,

You will want Multi-Console Cthulhu.
It does six out of the nine Consoles you want.
PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation, GameCube, Sega Saturn, PC.

For the Wii, you can use GameCube, but I’m thinking you don’t want that.
So there is option to use the PiiWee.

For the Dreamcast, the best PCB to use would be from an Agetec Dreamcast Arcade Stick.
PCB from Dreamcast Controller will lag on the Triggers.

Your Backwards Compatible PlayStation 3 does not matter.
The Multi-Console Cthulhu works with PlayStation 2 games on Backwards Compatible PlayStation 3.

You want Seimitsu PS-14-KN.
Lizard Lick is where to get the Buttons.
The Arc-Eyes were originally designed for those Buttons.

Plexiglass is another name for Acrylic.
And Plexiglas (one S) is a trademark name.

You are right, arthong does not have an Acrylic Bottom for the TE.
He said not strong enough right?
He can laser etch though.

If your choice of Arc-Eye lighting does not exceed the Current Draw for USB, batteries will not be needed.
Would just get power from the USB.
Unless you do want batteries.

That is all I can answer.
The rest will have to be Gummowned.

how much is this mod?

jdm714,

First off, while there were still something I didn’t understand in your reply (trigger lag? As in the trigger buttons would lag?), I’m most appreciative of your informative reply.

So based on your information, it would seem that the PCB called ChImp is not what I’m looking for? Just the Multi-Console + Cthulhu? Well I suppose also the PCBs you brought to my attention for the Dreamcast, and also PiiWee. Although if I’m able to use the MC + Cthulhu for GC and the Saturn, I could just use my old Saturn to Dreamcast converters to save on space/cost and use the GC compatibility for the Wii. That is, if my understanding of how a Wii works is correct. I’m mainly interested in picking up a wii later for the very few fighting games it has, and don’t necessarily need it to be wireless.

Speaking of PCBs, TEasy was mentioned earlier, and seemed like it would be nice to have, but based on reading the TEasy thread; it seems they are only for 360 TE sticks? Which I suppose would make that irrelevant for me. If someone knows otherwise, feel free to let me know.

As far as the Seimitsu PS-14-KN goes, I thought the Madcatz TE sticks used Sanwa buttons(?). Granted if you were informing me that the Seimitsus are the only ones that work with the Arc-Eye, that is good to know and something I would have to consider. I was hoping to stick with the Sanwa buttons though, due to hearing that while nice, the Seimitsu buttons were a bit less sensitive and a bit more springy. While obviously not anything bad, I’ve grown quite fond of the buttons on the TE sticks and just wanted to find more translucent version of them. I suppose if there are no such options, I might be okay with not having a epileptic techno light show every time I touch my joystick.

Thank you for the clarification on the Plexiglas/acrylic question as well. I didn’t actually speak with arthong (if he’s part of this forum), just recall seeing that on his site. But if he does etching and printing that’s fantastic. I suppose I just need to find a place where I can get a clear bottom that would fit for the TE stick and send it over to him.

Good to know that I won’t need any batteries, since I’d prefer to not have them. Assuming what I want for the color scheme isn’t too much of course.

Random side note: I’ve been part of this forum for a little bit, and have seen newer members being chewed out (and of course the opposite as well), but it’s good to know that people still take the time to help those who are rather hilariously lost such as myself. Thank you jdm714.

Regards,

It lags.

I didn’t mention the ChImp because the ChImp is only PlayStation 3.
The only thing it good for is Dual Mod with Xbox 360.
Because it Automatic Detection of the Console.

Normally with a Dual Mod using one USB cable for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 would require a Switch.
You know, switches you see everywhere in your house.
The DPDT Switch will control the USB Data Lines.

The ChImp makes for all you have to do is plug in the USB to the Console.
No pressing buttons or fiddling with a switch.

I’m only telling you Multi-Console Cthulhu because it supports the Consoles you want.
Except for Dreamcast and Wii though.

Yes, you can use the GameCube of the Multi-Console Cthulhu to the Wii.
But only games that work with GameCube Controllers will work.

Yes, the TEasy is cool.
No need to solder for Dual Mod with a Cthulhu or ChImp or Dual Strike.
Well only totally no solder with Dual Strike, for Cthulhu or ChImp would require two wires done for USB Data Line.

TEasy is only for Xbox 360 TE because there is no Xbox 360 PCB like a Cthulhu.
Microsoft Security Encryption.

That is why people start out with Xbox 360, then add PlayStation 3 by using Cthulhu or ChImp.

Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition has Sanwa parts stock, yes.
But that does not mean would have to use Sanwa.
Seimitsu Joystick and Buttons can be used.
The TE was specifically designed so.
Even arcades are the same.

30mm Buttons is what you want for the Action.
Sanwa OBSF-30, OBSN-30, OBSF-30RG, OBSN-30RG, OBSC-30, OBSC-30RG.
Seimitsu PS-14-G, PS-14-GN, PS-14-GN(???), PS-14-K, PS-14-KN, PS-15, PS-14-P, PS-14-GX, PS-14-GNX.

One Button will have a problem installing if use Sanwa Screw-in (OBSN-30).
The Nut it uses is too big, and won’t fit because of the Mounting Bracket in TE.
To fix would require to file or grind the Nut until it fits, or just use a Seimitsu Nut.

With the Seimitsu, put the Nut under the Mounting Bracket first, then screw in the Button.
Normally you would put the Button in, then screw on the Nut.

Seimitsu PS-14-KN is Screw-in by the way.

The closest to clear Sanwa Buttons would be the OBSC-30 and OBSC-30RG.
They are the Sanwa version of Seimitsu PS-14-GN(???).
That is the Button with Clear Plunger Cap.

Any Button with a Clear Plunger Cap can have art placed underneath.
Those Buttons would be OBSC-30, OBSC-30RG, PS-14-K, PS-14-KN.
http://shoryuken.com/f177/guide-how-put-art-under-clear-seimitsu-buttons-132705/

The Sanwa OBSC have been discontinued for very long time now.
The Seimitsu PS-14-K have been discontinued too.

PS-14-K is the Snap-in by the way.

For the Buttons in the back of TE, the Start and Select/Back, those are 24mm.
Seimitsu PS-14-D, PS-14-DN, PS-14-DN(???).
Sanwa OBSF-24, OBSN-24.

arthong is on this SRK.
He is arthong.

Hey Gum, do you still have any of those SMD Dual Strikes?

Gummy is the man!!! Just sayin…

lol =]

My Zelda stick is still working FLAWLESSLY!

God, I love that stick.

Actually I have to thank you for bringing this up. My gaming PC uses an nVidia chipset as well, so this applies to me too. If anyone has a quick answer for this part of Caecus’ post it would really help me as well. I don’t see why the Xbox mode wouldn’t solve the issue, as everything I’ve read says that the Xbox version of the Madcatz TE sticks don’t have issues with nVidia chipsets, but a definite answer would be great.

It would not matter to Caecus if he got a Cthulhu or Multi-Console Cthulhu or ChImp to replace the Mad Catz PCB.
Because those work with the PC.

There is no reason to switch to Xbox 360 for using on PC either.
Because the Cthulhu is better at doing the PC.

But if starting with PlayStation 3 TE and adding Xbox 360 Controller for Dual Mod, then just Xbox 360 will work for PC.
If replacing Mad Catz PCB, then it is better to use Cthulhu for PCB.

Not that he needs it but I wanted to give Gum a big up. This guy helped me order my stick which I couldn’t do without a U.S. billing address and also saved me one way of shipping. He updated me every step of the way and once he had everything, had everything done lightning fast. I’m not easy to please as a customer but he made everything right. A true professional I would recommend to anybody.

jdm, you’re so godlike! Thanks for helping out.

I have to go to the post office to ship some international stuff to Australia and roxtc’s package. When I get back I’ll answer the rest of everyone’s questions.

Hey bro, I will be at Summer Jam. Quick question:

I have a old style AIAB 360 MK stick. How much to make it a dual mod? (360 & PS3)

Whenever you have time. Thank you!

Caecus, Or cactus. :stuck_out_tongue:
JDM is the gatekeeper of Tech Talk.
He holds all the archives and bears wonderful insights and knowledge on controllers.
o’ great one

Also, stories have once told that Gummowned has grabbed the Golden Stick , i mean sword out of the stone with the help of the Wizard, and was dubbed King Arthur afterwards. Highly recommended person to handle dual mods and customizations with controllers. :stuck_out_tongue:
