stop fetishizing guitarists.
iām just saying once we start making long-ass lists with little explanation, we set ourselves up to eventually turn this into a weeaboo thread except with guitars (geeaboo) and those types of threads always suck cough*cough SRKās Metal thread cough
in my humble yet completely factual opinion.
how about a short UNRANKED (maybe just rank your favorite) list with links of why you enjoy a certain guitarist style so we can try to appreciate them easier than going out of our way to google everybody you can think of? (also this allows for longer than 20 guitarists. you can keep adding to your list, and it ends up being less overwhelming.) iāll post mine up later on today (i just found 15 pix of Wes Borland. iām done looking at guitarists for a while.)
IāM JUST SAYIN, NO OFFENSE TO ANYBODYāS LIST OR SEXPERIENCED. OR ANYTHING
speaking of lists, this was just released a few days agoā¦ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2065359/Jimi-Hendrix-voted-greatest-guitar-player-time-star-spangled-time-list.html
How the hell did I forget to put Shawn Lane on my list. Iāma replace him with angus youngā¦ (sorry angus).
You want video? Iāll start with Loomis I guess.

Why do I like him? Well itās pretty obvious, for one he is extremely technically skilled, on of the best living with Shawn Lane out of king spot. His song writing is diverse and great, he can play a technical phrase and make it sound like a melody instead of a long string of notes, and those melodies and passages combine to make great songs. Pretty redundant statements really, but I think stating my reasons for every particular guitarist is going to end up being similar, I admire their skill and really enjoy their music. Loomis has a great way of creating different atmospheres/soundscapes throughout one song/album, which a lot of the guitarists on my short list do, probably why they feature on my short list.
So I donāt keep repeating myself I will mention someone who I do have very other different reasons for enjoying; Dan Swano.
Put simply he defines my favorite guitar sound,

(the guy playing upside down, well left handed on a right handed guitar haha)
Something about the simplicity but incredible catchy nature and uniqueness of every single riff/song he writes is amazing. Not to mention all the subtleties piled on top, even with an insane sound (the HM-2) his songs pull off a full sounding yet layered composition. And this is death metal, where usually itās hard to even get the bassists and drummers to play something different to the guitarists. Every song is so incredibly different and amazing, yet itās easy to pick as a Swano song.

Something a little different.

A little different again, just showing his diversity.
He goes a lot further as well, he actually has an amazing clean voice and can write acoustically very well, Iām just keeping it brief and sticking to my favorites of his.
That is Mikael Akerfeldt on vocals in that song, I might go into him later I guess, Iām not really sure this is actually proving anything though haha.
this is Guthrie Govan, and this is why heās on my list.

Not only is he extremely technical, heās one of the few technical guitarist that can maintain being soulful at the same time.

he also has the ability to mimic other styles.

two of his clinics.

Sometimes, the reasons are self-evident.
For example, we have learned that Wes Borland must have really great legs.
i am a better guitarist than you are.
TAKE THAT!
Dat Wes Borland. Whereās the bass player lists?

I donāt know how good you are and I donāt care.
Also, should the opportunity present itself, I will have sex with your closest female relative, then send you the video anonymously.
As of right now all I can think of are those japanese shredders that are featured in the past Young Guitar videos you an see on youtube. Maybe not the best, but my biased opinion/taste has a hard on for those guys/gals.
Cool that someone mentioned Chuck Schuldiner, I suggest to that person to check out the re-mastered version of the album āHumanā killer stuff.
hmmmā¦note to self:
anonymously inject all family members with Somalian AIDS. then months later while m0urning is wasting, steal his band from him.
perfect plan
REEREER (thatās an artificial harmonic)
Hereās some good advise on memorising chords.

I tend to think of it as more of a āweweweā.
Dun dun. Dun dun. Wewewewew. Dun dun. Dun dun. Wewewewew. (Cliche soundtrack to modern action movie/cop show.)
either way, we would have had to explain wtf we were talking about.

ā¦cant believe I forgot to put wes montgomery on my list.
I bought .013 - .056 gauge strings for my acoustic last week but they still feel too light for me, and these are the heaviest strings you can get for acoustics.
