I actually played a guitar for the first time in a while and forgot how fun it is. I can’t play for shit anymore.
this my favourite pgilbert song… i didnt realise his pinky was so long until now.

Yeah, his fingers are long as hell in general. They hold the neck of the guitar like it’s a pencil.
EDIT:
My favorite PG song is probably “Straight Through the Telephone Pole” on the same album.
Most technical guitarists have huge hands. Look at steve Vai’s hands, he looks like an alien.
This is my favourite vai song… you can tell this guy just loves himself.

speaking of Gilbert he’s also an insane classical guitar player… not quite Paco Lucia’s level but still better than some flamenco playing I’ve heard.

I’ve heard people say that Vai has a big ego issue, but he never really struck me that way. I think he hams it up a lot onstage, which might give that “dig me” impression, but he’s always been willing to wear his respect for other musicians on his sleeve and give it up for them in interviews.
Love the swirling backdrop in the PG video. You don’t see special effects like that anymore.
EDIT:
Here’s my favorite Vai tune. It’s pretty audacious.

If Vai has an ego, he learned it. He’s like the epitome of hard work over talent.
I find calling someone talented undermines the hard work they put into getting where they are. It’s almots like an excuse for why they can’t do the same.
dont get me wrong, I like vai… he may have an ego but he certainly isnt a bad person.
I started learning guitar like two weeks ago. I can play like 6 notes on the first two strings. I’m a fucking pro.
Cool:

I’m thinking about picking up one of those guitar kits from guitarfetish.com. Anybody know anything about them?
I’ve always had my instruments modified from stock, but I haven’t done much work on them myself, so this would mainly be a learning experience.
Update: fuck this shit. My girlfriend gave me a a Squier '51 a while back, so I’m going to break it down, strip the paint off, chisel some extra holes, and boom. Guitar kit.
I’m planning on converting it into a hardtail Stratocaster with the same hum-single pickup configuration.
I find it retarded that it seems like the only place I can find 6-string bass strings is in North America.
But then maybe it wasn’t inherently bright of me to bring my 6-string bass to China in the first place, but it’s the one I’m most comfortable on at this point.
Damn as an extended range enthusiast myself I can relate.
I buy my strings custom from elixir because other brands don’t even last me a week, even D’addario, my fingers kill strings. My eighth string has to be a bass string, it kinda sucks that I have to spend so much on one set of strings, but at least they can last me 6 months to a year.
Luckily my bass is only a 5, I can get sets for it quite easily. Always wanted to be in a band with a 6 stringer though.
anyone know the name of the song at 0:27? I’m looking for tabs.

Same here. I love my 4 string jazz to death. The tone is to die for. But there’s just something about playing my 6 that just feels like home.
Can’t you order from juststrings.com and have them shipped to you?
I remember playing that song back in my classical days but can’t remember what its called. You can figure it out by listening though, it’s a pretty easy song.
Did anyone see Rollings Stones top 100 guitarist? It’s so bad, it’s like 99% based on popularity. Kirk is in top 20 but Mick Ronson and Brian May aren’t even in the top 30
Yeah, but shipping is retarded. $40 on $20 strings? GTFO
No doubt. I feel your pain. What are you playing on?
Always interested in knowing what my fellow extended range bassists are playing. How long have you been playing?
