Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

Dang, the “anime” deebate pops up on like a semi monthly basis dowsn’t it? It’s especially annoying when you realize that Street Fighter itself is anime/manga based it just pulls from the 80’s so no one realizes it.

‘Anime’ = ‘that’s fucking gay looking i ain’t playing that shit you a girl or something’

People on SRK love to debate the most pointless shit

GG has more in common with SF than 3S tbh, also as others mentioned, Anime is thrown randomly despite gameplay, it is a label used to define anything that is not SF, Tekken, Kof, UMVC3.

MK9 confirmed anime game.

I think that this is a work for @not_anime

“Guts modifiers are applied at the begining of the combo, but not mid combo.”

I tested this myself in my copy of +R a few days ago and this is wrong. Hecatom go test yourself instead of spreading misinformation.

I consider anime as more of a style of storytelling over a style of animation or gameplay. For example, The Boondocks is rarely ever considered an anime(at least by anyone I know), yet that shit clearly derives its art style from Japan. It’s the presentation that makes it anime or not. SF isn’t generally considered anime because the cast of characters are not depicted based on the common stereotypes you may find in anime, as opposed to Jin in Blazblue, for instance. Pretty-boy emos are definitely what I’d consider an anime stereotype. Buff nomadic karate men? Not so much. If one were to draw out many of the characters of games like SF or Tekken, they will certainly look like anime characters, but their complete design doesn’t quite fit in. Think about Evil Ryu and Oni in SF4. You will commonly see these two characters specifically associated with “anime” based on their flashiness alone. The characters themselves aren’t much different in animation style than their counterparts, but the vibrant auras and over-the-top special moves remind the audience of 90’s shounen anime like DBZ. That’s where I think the line between “anime” and “non-anime” games come from, even though the vast majority of them are Japanese games anyway.

In my defense that shit is posted like that on the dustloop wiki aswell, so i am not the only one “spreading misinformation”

Show me where.

I’m sorry but guys look at this

so that’s why he supermans that shit in xx

Am I the only one who thinks the new intros, while pretty sweet, are way too long? One of the things I hate about 3D fighters are the long match intros. It seems like I usually just watch them a few time, then skip them after that. If the character intros can’t be skipped, then they are way too long. And if they can be skipped, they are pointless to have at the start of every match.

I like the way most past GGs did it. Both characters did a short animation at the same time. I’d like to see them shorten the length of the intros, and make them play simultaneously via split screen.

I’m fine with the new intros. Even if they may be long, you can skip them which most people do in every game anyway. All I’m hoping for is that special rival intros come back.

Air Pot!

Exactly my point. Most people skip them anyway, so they are then left with no intro at all. I’d prefer the classic GG intros to no intro at all. And on to add to that, now I have to skip an intro every single match. What’s the point of having a feature that only ends up annoying most people?

I don’t think it annoys most people. It’ll be time consuming for tournaments and competitive play. But your casual, just loves the absolute everything about the game, will probably watch those intros over and over again.

idk, I was a casual for most of my life in fighters, and even when SC was revolutionary, I couldn’t stand the intros after I’d watched them a few times. Let’s face it, it’s an unchanging cinematic scene that you have to watch before each match. I think in any other genre, people would be crying very loudly about such a thing. I honestly don’t understand why people don’t say anything about it in fighters.

Really, it’s a very minor issue. I’m just curious if anyone else shares my view, or if anyone has a good argument for why being shown a specific cinematic before each match is a good thing.

edit: I’d love to see something more like the first KI’s versus screen. Now that was really cool. Something like that, except in-game.

Bullshit, the game is extremely Japanese, it’s not any less Japanese than BB. Niggas only say that shit to make themselves feel better.

I’ve been playing KOF 98 for years, anyone who skips Ralf vs Calrk is a monster who needs to be burned.

What a pathetic statement. Last thing I’m going to do is debate someone over some arbitrary labels.

Go fucking nuts.

How often do you think players start up a Sol vs. Ky match, and look at the intro, every, single, time? It’s really awesome for the first few times, but it eventually gets old. If there’s a skip option, players will use it. A lot. Even if the intro is short. Look at Ragna vs. Hakumen intro in BB. They do two attacks that clash, then a taunt, then they fight. It’s like, 10 seconds long if even that much. And players will still skip it. Why? Because they’ve seen it to death already. So it’s not like people didn’t skip GG intros like you’re implying they didn’t.
