That’s like saying they should be shit on principle, which is a terrible idea. They can certainly be good with tiny pixie characters going a bit too ham and getting scooped in the process. Things like Potemkin’s flick and sliding head and Tager’s magnetism mechanics are interesting elements that would help those types of characters in airdashers.
I’m not sure how you can be against top tier grapplers. I mean, opinions sure, but top tier grapplers usually mean great things about smart play, unless the grappler is Waldstein.
Shit, grapple characters in these types of fighters NEED to be dangerous as hell in order to put the fear of God into the too-happy rushdown mix-up characters. Make em think twice or lose half their health.
And I don’t mind a top-tier being a grappler. Would be a change of pace, really.
he dosnt have to be top…but being rushed down like that is kinda ridiculous…i mean grapplers you would want to keep your distance from…not just rush in and do what ever you want.
On the topic of Hasegawa vs FAB, both players are not only top representatives of their respective characters, but either Hasegawa was having a great day, or FAB was having a bad one. FAB had a lot of situations where he could have took over match momentum, but in the end he failed to properly do so. An Ino you can’t put on the defensive is a scary fucking Ino.
This was the first time I’ve seen the two players go at it as far as I know, but none of the POvIN matches I’ve seen with Pot on the losing end have been as bad as that set. Hasegawa was getting away with way too much offensive pressure, the loss was definitely PlayervPlayer and not CharvChara based.
Im more into zoners keep away games than the grapplers get in game. Its just more interesting to me to keep something out that causes a ton of damage, if that thing can get in easy then its like Ultra David saying that HDR Gief ruined ST Gief for him. Grapplers just slow stuff down usually and so yeah in a air dasher game with fast paced action it puts a monkey wrench in the game to me. He doesnt have to be horrible, he should do a lot of damage to make up to lack of mobility, but it doesnt make sense to me that he should be top tier in this type of game.
The effectiveness of a character shouldn’t be determinate by the preferences of no one.
If the people behind of X game starts making the characters purposefully weak then we without a doubt will have a problem in hands.
Plus adding damage to “compensate” for the lack of mobility leads us to shit like Tager on BBCT, where he did a huge amount of damage but it meant shit since he sucked balls against everyone.
We have already seen on other games that having a powerful grappler doesn’t take away from the game, again, AC’s Pot, Waldstein, those characters still have the weakness inherent to their style but their tools allow them to be viable and competitive.
In summary, the idea is not that x or y play style should be stronger than others but to make the battle field as even as possible.
