The thing about makes Guilty Gear really special is that its a Japanese take on American influences. Its basically reinterpreting a lot of western sensibilities through a japanese lense. The new characters are trying to make Japanese things fit into those original stylings which, in my humble opinion, looks very jarring. The most obviously odd thing is the looseness of clothing in Elpeth, and Ramlethal (I could make a case for Sinās wacky flag but eh). It is very well possible that Bedman was inspired by Metallicaās One, but he still looks weird. Ramlethal also has the weird distinction of being the first GG character who isnāt really holding their weapon which is a weird departure (kind of in the same in Ivy and Viola look odd having magical weapons in a cast full of people swinging actual thing in Soul Calibur).
There isnāt anything wrong with them and Iām hoping theyāll be great characters, but stylistical they are a departure from typical GG design.
Iād posit that the looseness of the skirts on El and the cape Ram are at least in part a way of getting around having to animate them if they were more form fitting (or in Elās case, less poofy). I mean, Elās skirt is hardly static, but from what Iāve seen based on the footage, it really doesnāt have any animation where it needs to fold or flow around a leg.
That said, I do get what youāre saying. However, with the amount of time between Xrd and XX it would be unrealistic IMO for an artist like Ishiwatari not to gain new influences. We can probably chalk the designs of the new characters up to this fact.
EDIT: And now for what many folks have been waiting for, Elās kanchou face.
I play on 360 (donāt own a PS3 so Iāve been missing out on all the anime games coming out recently) and I had made the decision awhile back to buy the ps4, essentially just for this game. No matter what happened, I was going to upgrade to the ps4 eventually. I might as well upgrade to a PS4 when Xrd comes out.
Anyway, even though not much is shown with Sin yet. He really interests me as a character, heās going to be the first character I try out when Xrd drops.
Iām hoping we can get more reports on the PS3 version on whether it stays at a consistent 60fps. I get the feeling that the PS3 version will be tournament standard for a while since I canāt imagine tourney organizers being able to get a bunch of PS4ās. Iām getting the game on PS4 but the stick situation leaves me annoyed. Cronus Max is banned in rtourneys, right?
Damn it Killey killing my buzz. The port situation now is most definitely worse since we have a lot of viable consoles for tournaments. Next Gen of fighting games are gonna go through a fuckload of testing so that people donāt bitch. TechTalk better get their buttholes ready.
I suppose PS4 is the way Iām going as well⦠Donāt have a PS3, might as well get something that will stay relevant for the next 5 years or so. Bye bye $400 plus cost of 2 sticks, it was nice knowing you.
Oh yeah, also getting a WiiU for the gf. I never should have introduced her to Mario Kart.
In one of the videos from the Madcatz event there was a player using a blue and yellow fightstick for the PS4. Will they release them worldwide soon? That is one of my favorite color combos too
I think Iāll need to get a Cronus Max in the interim just to play the game on PS4 with a PS3 stick. I would pre-order the Mad Catz PS4 stick but my friend went through a shit show in regards to shipping to Canada for the XBone TE2ās during KIās launch. In the end, he cancelled his pre-order because of shipping delays as well as the fact that Future Shop got their shipment of TE2ās before his pre-order. Now Iām not sure if weāll see something similar for the PS4 stick but it seems like a wait and see if a store gets a shipment so I donāt get fucked over in shipping and US->CDN exchange rates. Iām definitely pre-paring this shit for the Xrd Demo in October.
Yeah please avoid the CronusMax. The old PS3 <-> 360 models added input delay (variable 1-3F from my basic testing) and were also reported to either physically burn out or bend USB ports. Also the tournament viability is in question and I donāt think many of us would feel safe having one of those devices in our PS4s too, so thereās that to consider too.
Yeah, I havenāt done too much research on the PS4 stick situation so was looking for something in the interim before getting an official stick or some sort of mod.
Jourdal posted the TGS exhibition matches on his youtube page.
You can check out part 1 on his page if you want to see Ain, Fab, and other players. Iām just posting part 2 because it has exhibitions with Pakuās Sin and Elfet. Since heās part of Arcsys heās had more time with the characters and shows off what they can do.
Sinās poking range looks really good but thereās some definite holes in his midrange game. His reversal looks pretty good and can be special cancelled on block to make it safe or safer.
We get to see air Pineberry toss as well and the hitbox on the way down is actually better than I thought. He also answers some of my questions in his game play by RCing her throw and Sniper Shot for combo extensions but he dropped them in both cases but the concept is true. Also, shows off some good Shotgun mind games but the roll is not as good since you can just mash throw during the animation and catch her during her recovery. I think youāll need Pineberry to make the roll mix ups more viable. Otherwise, itās a pretty solid demonstration of both characters at a higher level of play but still lots of room for exploration.
