Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

I forgot about KoF XIII on Steam, that’s a good point. Yatagarasu coming out on Steam ought to help things out too, though I worry Yatagarasu won’t make much of an impact on the JP PC gaming scene at-large.

Last two Xboxes crashed and burned in the Japanese market. I don’t believe Japanese consumers are waiting on the Xbone to make a decision. Japan market is more willing to buy a console for a single game. PS4 sales are weak in Japan because there isn’t enough games that appeal to their market other than Dynasty Warriors and the Yazuka spin-off.

Ehh, “crash and burn” aren’t the words I’d use to describe the 360’s performance. They obviously weren’t shipping as many units to Japan, but MS still haven’t pulled out. I think the system is more niche than it is widespread. Here is a good article i read awhile back.

“It’s fair to say that Xbox 360 players in Japan are generally either core gamers or people who obsess over particular game characters. The latter are people who bought an Xbox because of games like the Idol Master series or Steins;Gate… The Xbox 360 has a relatively high proportion of FPS, shooting games, and ports of PC bishojo games and novel games, so I expect that the players reflect. Importing Xbox 360 games is straightforward. " - A meat eater

So anyway, a 2D fighting game, a spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon, and Dead Rising 3 wouldn’t at all interest a Japanese gamer? Again, Titanfall seemed to have gotten a positive reception in TGS
last year. I imagine the non-Kinect version of Xbox One will get the most sales. I’m going to say it will be an interesting contender to say the least.

I wouldn’t hold out much hope of KI garnering interest in Japan. It’s a fighting game with no arcade release. It’s a western developed game at that so that’s another hurtle it’ll have to contend with. spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon is a digital only title. I don’t see much success in it’s future unless it gets a retail release over there. Dead Rising will do fine as long as it escapes a Z rating.

Those wacky gaijins and their DirectX 11! Seriously though, I’d say that Western games are actually becoming less of an niche now. Skyrim sold a shitton over there.

About Crimson Dragon, you mean that disc versions of games are more attractive correct? That may be so, but those who buy an X1 will more than likely already be hooking it up to the internet. Also, because its digital, packing and shipping a physical copy would not cost anything, so it is almost a risk-free process to translate it. The same reasoning applies to KI or Resogun on PS4.

Yes. I bring up retail because Japan isn’t quick to jump on the digital bandwagon for games as the western part of the world.

I would, considering the WiiU, a console which is selling terribly worldwide and is a massive flop for Nintendo costing them millions of dollars, not too long ago recently outsold the lifetime 360 sales in Japan, meaning the entire life of the 360 it sold so little in Japan it was outsold in a couple years by the worst selling Nintendo console since the Virtual Boy.

“Crashing and burning” is what I visualize if Microsoft called it quits at any point. A car “crashing” implies that it stopped accelerating, and a “burning” vehicle means it may or may not be engulfed in flames. The 360 did not do either of those (okay maybe definitely the latter), figuratively speaking, and people still bought the system for all of its Cave shooters, XBLA games like Battleblock Theater/Trials HD (The Behemoth actually live stream from their TGS booth), FPS/TPS games like Halo and Grays of War, and whatever other games the indie developer mentioned in the article. I’ve looked at the 360 leaderboard for Blazblue CS and Street Fighter 4, and seen a good amount of Japanese players. Their genre preferences are about what you’d expect from the previous generation.

The Wii U is not considered a flop to me until SSBU comes out :stuck_out_tongue: I get what you mean though. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are losing money in Japan. Would you also attribute part of that to the growing trend of the smartphone and portable games market?

no one talking about 1.04?

Didn’t change much. I think just some fixes, a slight tweak to RC proration, and a new stage that owners can customize text on.

Yeah the patch also made it harder for Ky’s ponytail to come undone midmatch so Jeah…nuthin too major, lol.

I wonder why that was done though. Was the hair distracting or something?

Pre-Order cancelled.

I think because the Holy Orders remix is so good it counts as a comeback mechanic. They had to Nerf its effectiveness on Ky players. At least that’s my theory!

RIP Xrd 2014-2014

Theme song based comeback mechanic is the coolest and most anime comeback mechanic.

Its true. Look at Metal Gear Rising!

When is Xrd going to show at E3?? I’m so upset. I was soo hyped for it this past week now :frowning:

E3 is several days and this isn’t even the first day, not to mention Sony havent even had their conference yet.

Wait. I thought they just did. It was at 6:00PM EST, right?

Nope, still an hour away.
