I don’t think FFXIV for the PS4 requires PS+ to play online with the PC and PS3, but that’s a MMO so that’s a really different category of play compared to a fighter.
It’s not that clear cut. There seem to be a bunch of other things that cam qualify a game for free multiplayer. For examples, you don’t need PS+ for free to play games.
To set the record straight, there will be a lot of consumers like me, who aren’t interested in getting a PS4 anytime soon (unless we are talking Ape Escape 4), but will forsake the graphical improvements for smooth, arcade accurate, 60 fps gameplay. ArcSys should try to actively not fuck that up as much as possible, and we will be P4 Golden.
I will say that ArcSys would be bonkers to not port Xrd on Xbox One or AT LEAST PC. There is absolutely a minimal amount of effort involved in porting an Unreal Engine game to the same platform that it was conceived in.
Have there been any serious Ramlethal players yet? I want to play the hell out of her Day 1.
Yeah, there are some serious Ram players. There was one that, at one point, shot all the way up to like the 3rd best overall player. They’re 8th currently, which is still really good.
Players you can search for are Umecha, Batako, LAH, Gure, and I think Daiji is still playing her over Millia. She also has a sub form on Dustloop with some stuff in it.
Microsoft actually announced a Q4 2014 date for Japan around the beginning of this year. Beyond that, TGS had demo units of KI last year, and even a booth for Titanfall. That game kind of interests the Japanese (i would link a Slowtaku article but I don’t feel like hating myself tonight) so yeah. As you know, PS4 hasn’t been selling well, so I can only come to the conclusion that they are waiting for the third big wig to join in after Nintendo and Sony. I’m not gonna lie, when I read all the pessimistic posts on Neogaf about how “X1 is gonna do worse than PS4”, I just sighed and wrote it off as mostly hyperbole. It’s not like Microsoft has a huge mountain to climb against it’s competitors. At the very least, MS should feel threatened by the launch of SSBU.
“The day that Next Level Arcade spent all of its profits on Gamecube pads instead of arcade sticks.” -CSword calling it right now.
Thanks for the link, I honestly don’t remember making an account on Dustloop even though I spent like a months worth of time lurking the +R Chipp board lol.
XBone is doing worse than PS4 worldwide though. And considering their recent moves (BB:CP being PS3 exclusive), plus the possibility that Sony may have some money in this, I highly doubt an XBone port.
Yes, Atlus may have control over which consoles they distribute games to, but potential buyers are still left scratching their heads when they wonder where BB:CP wandered off to. It totally irks me to see ArcSys being quiet about their probable contract with Sony (how long is it and wtf does it entail?). A significant number of people actually have bought the Kiss ltd. Steam port of Isuka. How significant? Well, the title may not have the most active community market for trading cards on Steam, but it DID land on the Humble Daily Bundle awhile ago.
An Xbox One port of Xrd is most definitely not out of the question. A very successful worldwide launch of the Xbox One with an exclusive fighting game being one of its system sellers says a lot about what kind of owners would be interested in Xrd.
You are understimating the fact that their 90% (or more) of their core fanbase is on sony consoles.
Every game that they have done on this gen has been always sold way, way better on ps3, it is logical to drop making games on the xbox when the cost of doing the port is bigger than the revenue that they get for selling the games on it.
If anything, it will be bonkers for them to keep insisting when there is no market for their games on it, does it suck for the fans that are on M$ consoles? Yes, but at the end of the day they are doing those games to make a profit, and until now there isn’t one when making games for the xbox family.
Another thing, dunno what kind of reports have you reading, but PS4 has been selling well everywhere, the lolbox on the other hand…
Edit
Your posts sound like you are one of those btw
They should do a PC port, easy to do. Plus Isuka and BB: Calamity Trigger (yes the oldest version of the game) sold like hot cakes when released earlier this year. A ton of people would buy Xrd if it came to Steam.
Well, almost. Network infrastructure is the one area that isn’t trivial compared to the ready-made ones you get on consoles, and input also needs to be reworked (UE can handle a good chunk of the work for you but chances are a console developer would only have used a subset of what’s required for correctlx handling PC input).
One of those? Hilarious. I might as well keep my PS3 and hrap3 now because (thanks to your cherry picking) I can’t actually hope that an Unreal Engine game will come to the pre-existing install base of 75 million Steam users.
Also, taking cheap shots at “M$” while not using “$ony” says alot more about your “fanboy” agenda than it does about mine.
Edit:
The lolbox has not, as of yet, launched in the following countries (still doing tremendously well for a MS console btw):
[details=Spoiler]Argentina
Belgium
Chile
Colombia
Czech Republic
Denmark
Finland
Greece
Hungary
India
Israel
Japan
Korea
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Russia
Saudi Arabia

Slovakia
South Africa
Sweden

If you find your country on this list, you know which game shop to go to in September.
That makes sense. I don’t know how accommodating Steamworks or Xbox Live is to developers, but at least the engine itself is supported on several different platforms.
Mario Kart 8 only gave the Wii U a small sales boost. It only sold around 19K consoles this week. Not the push the console needs.
Wii U and PS4 sales are often neck in neck on the Japanese sales charts. You’ll see that if you look back on previous weeks charts. It would be cool if Arc released a Wii U version. I mean, a version of Accent Core was released on the Wii.
No, not Mario Kart 8, but I do believe SSBU will push a lot more units than that.
I don’t find either of those sales numbers the least bit significant if we were to put the 3DS on a pedestal. Portables are the systems of choice for the Japanese market. The launch week of the PS4 was disappointing to many analysts. I’m still going to be optimistic and say that Japan is waiting for the launch of the Xbox One before they make a home console purchase decision.
If Arc were to release ANY port of Xrd that isn’t on a Sony console, that would alleviate my concerns of there being this blood pact between the two companies with “Gluttony Fang” playing in the background.
Considering the engine the game runs on works perfectly fine (heck, PC was Unreal’s original platform) and the arcade hardware the game runs on is almost certainly a run-of-the-mill x86 system in a fancy box, a PC port would be primarily a business decision, as opposed to a technical one.
I don’t think it helps that the PC gaming market over in Japan is practically solely inhabited by eroge, and most people over there pretty much think that eroge and PC gaming are synonymous with each other, which is probably why there hasn’t been a major eastern fighting game released on PC since BBCT, SF4 aside.
Quick! Someone put art of a hentai character on a GTX 780 Ti!
I’ve seen some Japanese dudes play on a Counter-Strike Source server, so at least some of them know about Steam… Maybe Valve should get into the eroge business?
Oh, don’t forget about KOF 13. Plus whenever Yatagarasu comes out, i’m sure it will attract a larger Japanese PC gaming audience. How large depends on how they market it.
