The 360 is pretty much all but dead over in Japan, from what I hear. That may have something to do with Arcsys’ recent lack of 360 releases (TUUSH, BBCP, and XRD).
Isn’t it cause they have no choice? Since apparently all their recent releases were Sony only? I’m sure if the recent Arksystem games were released on Xbox and PC there would be a lot of fans on those platforms.
I have a hard time believing that they wouldn’t see it as worthwhile to even offer a Steam version of the game that wouldn’t need any packaging or anything like that. Especially if it’s developed on a PC. Did they get burned on the previous PC offerings they put out or something?
You can’t hurt yourself when the cost of porting a game on a console where there is no market for your games is more than the revenue that you get for even trying, seriously people, not even the usa fans on the 360 warrant the effort with how little support the game gets on it, they don’t represent more than 10% of their sales at best. I know that it sucks for the 360 players that are out there but is not rocket science, they will don’t drop a potential market if it wasn’t because the cost vs the revenue were so obviously skewed.
Also lol at the xbox having the larger audience when in every fighting game the major part of the players are on PS3 for all the games released so far no exceptions outside the few that were exclusive to it.
Considering that 90% if not more of the western players of #R play it on a pirated copy you can do the math.
You’re welcome to look up the BlazBlue PC port if you really think ArcSys gives a damn.
I don’t care if it’s PS only honestly, Unreal engine games are lousy on PC half the time.
I think the fact that this is their first next-gen foray with Guilty Gear might be a reason for people to buy it. It’s gonna have shiny new graphics and will be updated and probably won’t be as execution heavy as the previous ones were. I love all the GG games (even the bad ones), but the reason a lot of people don’t play it is partially because it looks like a last gen game, and because it has a reputation for being difficult. That alone is a reason why some fighting game players I know won’t bother to get into it.
As for the piracy argument, where is the PC port of #R even available for purchase other than Amazon? ArcSys does a shitty job of marketing their games over here. The only way I’ve ever been able to find Guilty Gear games is by lucking out at some used store. In some cases, the only way you’d be able to even play the damn game is by pirating it because finding a copy can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
I have it. It’s a decent port other than the occasional drops in framerate, but then, I was playing it on the PSP before i got the PC version, so I guess me saying it’s a good port is all relative.
Yeah it isn’t like a great library of Arksystem games have been available on PC and sold poorly. Can’t find #R. Blazblue CT got released on PC after CS was already out on consoles. Who wants to play an old version that was also apparently poorly ported?
Fighting games sell excellently on PC. SF4 sold like hotcakes, KOF XIII was reborn on PC, Skullgirls got a huge new audience cause of PC. Guilty Gear if ported well, and released somewhat close to console date (and definitely before any new update) would sell like crazy. Just go steam like Doctamario said, digital release.
Piracy may hurt sales of single player games, but competitive ones with online play are the least effected.
LMAO
You are aware that GOG lauched on 2008, like 5 years after GGXX#R was released right?
And they didn’t add it to their line up until around 2010 or 2011 iirc
Not having a Steam release of a modern fighting game is really stupid. I know it’s LOL JAPAN, but PC is amazing, especially for smaller companies, and smaller games.
I especially don’t understand why a company wouldn’t take advantage of the digital medium that doesn’t require packaging, shipping, and stuff like that that drives up the cost of a game. It seems silly in this day and age NOT to have a Steam version, especially if the game was developed on infrastructure that is or is similar to a PC.
Was it SNK who were having troubles getting their games on Steam due to all the legal documents being english, or some other japanese company? I mean, it’s more than just “I want my game on Steam” “Ok, here is your game on Steam”
