Guilty Gear - Who plays?

Dizzy is one hell of a zoner.

Yeah I was gonna say are there any other zoners other than testament? I like the look of Eddie but I’ve heard he requires godlike levels of execution.

Dizzy, Venom, Axl are all zoning chars also. It’s just Testament is strongest lol.

As someone who registered in Dustloop back in 07 for GG stuff, never posted there again when I went on a FG hiatus due to high school, only to come back during the 2nd half of my senior year back in early 2010 when I just got into BlazBlue, I can definitely say that the “atmoshere” has changed albeit to a more “casual” tone, not that I’m saying it’s a bad thing, but when comparing the forums back from 07 to the present day, it seemed like there were a lot more people who were more “focused” on the game that the site was focused on.

The best zoning character in Guilty Gear is probably Testament. That’s his entire schtick with all the hippos, blood webs, trees, and curse. Venom and Axl also zone quite well. Faust also zones in his own unique way. I think Zappa zones if he gets the three ghosts, but I haven’t played against a Zappa player in ages.

Eddie isn’t so much a zoner as much as he is insane rushdown and unblockables.

The one thing that I really like about GG so much compared to a lot of other games is that pretty much every character’s combos operate completely differently. May’s got her crazy dolphin loops (still trying to do 5P into SVD), Jam’s got her ground based wall slams, Sol’s got his air based wall slams, Venom has ball rushdown in the corner, Slayer has punches that knock you clean off the screen, etc. Every character is just so unique and wacky in their own little way.

I still play GGXX:AC, but it’s fairly hard to find competition.

Dizzy i find, is THE hardest character to win with.
She has limitations when pressured. no DP move to get her out of a cornered jam.
She’ll teach you how to block bet-ter though.

Hey! Fellow AC player here, I’ve been playing for 4 years, transitioning all the way from Potemkin to Jammin’ Jam. I almost can’t play anyone else now (maybe a little John (for Ensenga RC) and Testa (for the badlands loops)), Jam is just … so fucking RIGHT. From the frame advantage on her attacks to that sexy 6HS (that combos into itself trough a linked 6P, I’m just so jelly for things that combo into themselves) and from that gritty, charged Ryuujin wall-stick to the tightness of IAD > Gekirin … yeah.

I think the greatness of GG comes from having every character able of doing amazing stuff, even Bridget has an unblockable. And to balance that, you have all those crazy defense mechanics; I’ve been learning to slashback some Sol strings and it’s awesome (although, the only player I know that does it fairly often is FAB).

I remember when I wanted to main her and I discovered that sometimes a blocked ice pike could be punishable if not FRCd … fuck that, it doesn’t even matter how god her j2S is or how sexy she is.

Actually, I was a dustloop user before a SRK one … but I joined really late to both forums (I just used DL for their sexy frame data). They are nice, but yeah, BB attracted a lot of … “anime fans” I’ll put it, which would be perfectly okay if their taste in anime wasn’t so fucking horrid (just a silly generalization ofc). In any case, if you are looking for GG info, it’s everything in there, they know their stuff.

And community … I’m lucky I dragged my 2 closest friends into GG when I started, now they love it, but here in Argentina … there is no community for any kind of FG :
We are planning to start one though, I’m getting pumped up and getting in contact with some guys that run an anime convention every week and they have like tournies for SF4, BB(in the past) and … well, Naruto (yeah), but I know that there is a FG following that goes to this anime things only to play, I’ve met them, so the people exist, they just need like a place or something.

For online play, #R works, but I despise #R, and AC over DeMul works really good … when it’s not desyncing.

Dustloop has gone to shit since the BB crowd took over and it’s a bunch of immature fools now. It’s hard as hell to find any new legitimate GG info anymore unless you use the popular characters because barely anyone is playing, most of the stickies were made by people who never bothered updating them and it’s a real pain digging through them.

I’ve never been active on Dustloop, just looked through a couple of threads, I’ve met some legit GG players through BB, BB isn’t a bad game, it just has a lot of appeal outside of the fighting game community because of how the story/game modes are put together.

That’s fine, but 80% of the posters there are what I would call “straight out of 4chan”. I wasn’t really active there but it was great for information on GG until they lost all their vbulletin crap, something about their database crashed and a lot of stuff was lost. Ever since BB was released that site got overrun by immature children. Still cool people there but you gotta sift through the cesspool to find anything good.

That’s the same with any forum though, I’ll take your word on it though, some crowds are worse than others, especially if you’re used to one thing and suddenly have something completely different.

This is unfortunately the truth. Back in 2006-2008 or so I used to browse Dustloop constantly, but after 2009 happened it just fell apart. Just take a look at how many character subforums have an “[Insert character] General” thread because the mods couldn’t deal with all the Facebook-level shitposting, so rather than wasting countless hours of their time deleting posts and banning idiots they just made a thread to hopefully keep at least some of that garbage contained away from the gameplay threads.

You can still discuss gameplay on that site but just watch out for online warriors who think they are experts and elitists who are actually good but insist that their playstyle/strategy is the only correct one. Much like here on SRK, only mods are less likely to call them on their bullshit, and may sometimes actually participate in it themselves. Opinion-based and off-topic threads are probably better left ignored, for your own sake, and anything that has the word General in the title.

The Guilty Gear subforums are not that active but what is there is mostly legit discussion.

GG:XX2 Reloaded Midnight Carnavel is my favorite 2D fighter of all time. PERIOD. (Axl Low Main) Even when the game just came out lobby’s were empty, you would wait 5-10 mins just to get a game but I did and I ended up 57th on the original xbox leader boards. Anyways I am excited to hear they have the rights back to there game, Isuka absolutely ruined the series IMO it just didn’t make sense. The least they could do is GGXBB I actually think that would be a smash seeing as how two groups of fans would be all over it. I haven’t even really gotten into BB, It always just looked like a rip off of GG. Its my number 1 gaming wish for GG to make a come back, and with SF4 reviving the fight scene pretty much and all these BlankXBlank games coming out its a perfect time for them to start working on it. Sorry if I’m off topic i didn’t read all the post. I’m new to the forum kinda a noob to fighting game fourms and some of the jargon. I just had to get it out that ***Guilty Gear XX #Reload IS THE BEST 2D fighter ever. ***

This.

I try to run a fairly tight ship on my board but I needed a “general/social” thread since I foresaw all the potential offtopic stuff. It’s worked wonders for the most part, and thankfully it’s been the only place where I’ve needed to handle flamewar situations. I was there during a decent chunk of the mid/late 2000s so tried to model the board after the GG characters and keep it clean mostly.

Also GGXXAC is great, everyone should play it forever

GGXBB does sound like fun. i think the gg characters are awesome and never really got interested in most of the bb characters, but i think it’d be a fun game, i’d buy it.

So Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus will be getting an arcade release soon…

…Playable Kliff and Justice? Whatever this might turn out cool, maybe hope for a XBLA/PSN release (even though I already have Accent Core on the Wii). This news make me want to play some Accent Core again…I haven’t played it in a little while and when I started back up again I was having a very hard time doing stuff again. I think Guilty Gear is one of those fighting games where if you stop playing for a little while you’ll have to relearn a lot of stuff, at least for a beginner like me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think after a while FRC’s timing gets hard-coded in your DNA, I stopped playing for a year a while back and I could do most FRCs perfectly (the ones I use at least). I’ll have to see how my kids play.

Awwwwww ya son, GGXXAC with netplay coming.

Time to brush up on my ABA and Potemkin.

Didn’t see this. I play, I’m terrible, but I’m going to be practicing a lot more now that this PSN/XBL port is coming.

I forsee many hours ahead in training with Testament.

No offense to anyone wanting to pick up GG or “played” it when ppl were going for instant kilss as a real strategy but if you are coming from sf4 and think its gonna be a easy transition you are mistaken. I’d put gg on par with tekken or vf where you have to at least play your character for a year to a couple years to fully grasp them. a far cry from sf4 where there are multiple characters you can pick up in a week or two.
