Guile Synergy

Right now I’m running Guile / Ken and doing pretty good. I use Guile to zone and build meter and bring Ken in to burn it all. Ken can do insane and simple damage with or without meter off tag ins, and full jump in combos off of hk.tatsu cancels are sexy

That or I use Ryu for a more balanced team focused on tootsies and zoning, using meter mainly to for alpha counters when I fail to zone someone out. This team tends to win with timeouts when I play it.

I come from SFIV ( Guile main ) and I have no experience at all with Tekken characters in any way, so I was hoping to hear some input as to which of them others think work pretty well with Guile.

I used to be a competitive Tekken player, so I was originally going to play my favorite two characters, Guile and Lili. The problem is that Lili is both made of glass, and um… oh yeah, not fun to play. That went out the door.

I’ve been playing either Guile/Zangief or Poison/Guile. Guile/Zangief does a lot of damage and has a good balance to the team. Poison/Guile is my favorite team to play, as I love hardcore zoning, but neither of them really do any damage - particularly Poison - so I win almost every round by timeouts.

Nina has high damage output, so if you’re looking to pair Guile with a Tekken character, try her. Guile is good on point to battery up meter for her.

guile fills your spot for a zoner. so you want something different than that. other then that, anyone should be fine.

I’ve been using Guile/Hwoarang.

Guile I know the best from the SF cast from AE, he plays similarly to AE in my opinion.

To balance his zoning and solid normals, Hwoarang provides good mixups and a different tempo to keep things fresh for you, and confusing for them.

Anyone else play this team?

i’ve been trying a few teams, but i’m yet to find the one where i feel like it’s the perfect combination.

so far i’ve tried guile with - ryu, rolento, sagat, kazuya, heihachi, vega and poison, lol. i’ve also tried out nina, king and rufus, just not in tandem with guile.

rolento is my best second character, but i don’t think he’s that good with guile. the alpha counter blowing up rekkas isn’t actually my problem with him though. i just think he struggles against certain characters, whilst also having a shitty wakeup game.

i gave up on poison straight away because the damage output of her and guile combined was awful, along with her normal anti airs being unreliable. i think she’s probably low tier. i like her play style though, very similar to rose in some ways.

i dropped kazuya because he’s very hard to play at a high level. that derpy shit that scrubby kazuya’s are winning with right now won’t wash in 6 months. i do think he’s the best character in the game though, so if you can use him to the point you can do egwf in combos with above 75% consistency, go with kazuya/guile imo.

heihachi is definitely a very good partner for guile. i’ve figured out his tree of combos and how to start them safely.he’s just soooo fucking slow that i can’t handle it.

vega/ryu/sagat i’ve just messed around with. after using them, i don’t really feel like maining any of them. but if i had to, i’d go with vega.

so yea, still searching lol. i’m going to try out raven and juri tomorrow. raven is pretty godlike.

Haven’t been playing video games a lot lately, but I just picked this game up, and I’m trying out Guile/Asuka. Guile due to familiarity, and I honestly picked Asuka due to her condescending kneeling finger point with the sarcastic “You were pretty good!”, but she’s actually pretty fun and stupid lethal up close. Her pokes suck, but Guile can cover her weaknesses with his annoying ranged game, and she does pretty good damage with easy combos.

I’ve tried to pair him with people from the Tekken class that are pure close range combatants, but damn I can’t get their playstyle down. Only had success so far with King.

FK > TC > Knees > RJB is stupid easy and hits hella hard. After that you are in perfect position to mixup and get the KO, or try to get King the hell back out before your opp can regain momentum.

rolento has like 4 ways out of a wakeup situation. where is that shitty?

raven is godlike. dunno if you’re into gief or hugo, fits as well heihachi is also a boss…

yea i’ve been using raven today and i think i’m probably going to go with raven/guile. he can turtle, do easy damage and has mixups, but he can also do really big damage if you can learn that cr.hp charge cancel loop, which i’ve been trying to master today. it’s not too hard to get 2/3 of them consistently, though i’m struggling with 4 in a row. his back dash is really good too. yea you can get between 350-450 meterless damage with raven pretty easily.

i’d be playing guile/sakura if capcom hadn’t locked her on disk :frowning:

meh rolento’s wakeup - i do keep forgetting about his roll away move, so maybe i should put that into practise more.

I tried out Cammy a bit last night, she feels pretty good on anchor with my Guile. Her AA/footsie game feels better now, but I only played a few games with her so I can’t say for sure. I definitely need to try Raven though, I haven’t touched him yet.

he feels like seth in a lot of ways, just not as dumb. all his special moves are unsafe on block, so be weary of just throwing out those teleport kicks. he’s got a great air to air normal and a couple of decent (not great) normal anti airs too. i haven’t tested it yet, but i’m curious to see if you do a bnb into his overhead kick teleport if it beats out srk’s. if yes, this will be a great tool to condition your opponent to not mash during block strings.

edit: tried out juri and this bitch is too much fun to not use her. she’s got surprisingly good synergy with guile too. 500 damage mid screen off a simple bnb into super. yea shes awesome.

Personally, I don’t think the character synergy is super important. Mostly I think you can just pick two characters you like/are good with/are top tier and go with that. I’m playing Guile/Ryu, because I need to have my basic street fighter moves that most characters are missing… I imagine Guile/Rufus would be very good because Rufus is amazing. I might try it out, but I’m more of a turtle by heart :P.

You can put Guile on any team, but I think he should always go first. Hes a battery character that sets the pace of the match through zoning and fundamental play. Because you can whiff st.hp whilst chucking booms, he naturally builds a good amount of bar without combos.

I run Guile/Heihachi and they fit well, you jus gotta be able to get damage off heihachi. Real Damage tho, if not, you will be totally reliant on Guile

I find myself kind of annoyed that Poison/Guile is so ineffective. Well, thats not true, its kinda effective, I just generally win by timeouts. If someone can get in and do big damage though, I have no comeback. The great thing about Tekken Tag was that ANY two characters can work together. Heck, even in MVC3, you can find an effective way to make ANY three characters work together as long as you’re creative.

In SFxT, it feels like there are certain characters where, if you pick them, Capcom basically says “Well, sorry if you’d like to team Guile with Poison, but we just didn’t want that to work. If you want to win, why don’t you try characters X Y and Z, who you don’t enjoy playing? They’ll work just fine.”

haha yeah I feel that way at first. cuz all the strong characters people were suggesting I don’t like… until I found King

EDIT: whiffing normals builds meter? I didn’t know that!

Does anyone else like Guile with Vega? I’m looking for a good defensive zoning team. I want to have Guile on point but I just cant find any real synergy with characters like Sagat and Poison who I liked as zoning characters. Is Sim any good with Guile? From watching arturo sanchez play his Sim/Vega team, Sim seems like another good battery character so unless Guile and Sim have loads of synergy I wouldnt want to put them together. I like Vega as it seems like he has more damaging options for one bar off of Tag cancel combos and Vega himself is a good keepaway character.

Overall I think this game is gonna lean towards teams that can play both styles of play. A good battery character like Guile in the front, then someone who can get big damage off of a simple chain combo for just one bar. You can see that team construction with players like Ricky ortiz using Poison/Rufus, Lamerboi using Guile/Law and Dieminion using Guile/Cammy.

With a zoning team there is no comeback potential and no random stuff. So if you dont play 100% solid in the beginning you’ve probably lost the match.Thats a lot easier said than done thanks to how good random jump ins are and how little damage anti airs and fireball chip does. Characters like Rufus and the grapplers though, they can actually make a few mistakes before theyre out of the game thanks to their health and their options once they get in.

Problem is I really dont wanna play any rushdown characters as it just doesnt suit me :frowning:

Maybe I’ll just hop on the Ryu train. Guile/Ryu sounds pretty good. Raven is the only Tekken character that seems to have some viable fireball zoning but I just hate that character. That character himself just seems to ignore alot of SF fundamentals with his teleport and ridiculous mixup options, it goes against everything I stand for.

Well my post was swallowed… But I had said that I have been having a lot of success using Guile with Lili. The team is definitely a less-is-more in terms of damage, but I have a mid screen tag cancel combo that dies 527 damage.

I had also asked if there was a way to Pandora into Lili from Guile or not. I have been able to reliably from Lili to Guile for about 500-600 damage (with 30% damage gem) but can’t do it reliably to Lili.

I did find a way to do it from Guile but the conditions are to much. Cornered opponent, they jump and throw out an early normal, but before that Guile needs to be falling from a jump. Counter hit the opponent as they throw an attack and then Pandora to Lili. It was about 450 damage without gems but dang is it a pain to pull off.

df.hk, pandora, might work.

Unfortunately trying to do it point blank results in the opponent being too low. Moving out further so the hit is higher means that Lili is too far away to connect anything also =/

Do speed gems affect jump rising and falling speed? That might help make it more feasible… Hah I would just really love for Guile to have an easy way to do it no matter how impractical it is.

Thank you for the tip on Guile High Kick though, I had completely forgotten about it as an option.
