Listen, I’ve played you and if you want some advice then I’d say change your character to one that is undoubtably better than Guile, THEN see if you are going forwards or backwards. I now play as basically every character on SF4 with the exception of like Gief, Sim, Gen and C.Viper. Because of this I’ve totally improved as an all round player. That’s what you need to do: improve as an all round player. You know how Daigo pretty much only uses Ryu, right? Well I bet he could whoop my ass with basically the entire SF4 roster. This is even though I consider myself a good Guile player. Why could he do this? Because he’s a better ALL ROUND player. At OUR level (online play), tiers make much less difference than they do at the top, top level of this game. The great part about learning new characters is that if I feel like I need to switch things up, now I can. Guile will remain my main because A: he’s my best character, B: because he’s too much fun and C: because he pisses so many people off :).
When you play as Guile, it doesn’t matter if you are Random_Scrub, Wikum, Gilley, Dagger G or whoever, you will eventually run into someone who’s better than you, using a better character. Chances are, you will lose and lose badly with Guile sometimes. I lost to a tournament level Ryu player recently about 17-2. Was I salty? Yes.
I do this WAY TOO MUCH lol. It IS safe even on sagat ect but it’s only safe if you do it absolutely perfectly. Be even more careful if they have ex bar because ex srk owns you in this situation. I would advise you to take a pause in your block string if the j.hk or j.lk is blocked incase of mash srk. If it connects you can get a nice 6/7 hit combo and finish it with a sweep.
EDIT: didn’t see Slinkun got in before me…but yea this is even more of a viable option on most characters with no srk. don’t use it too often other wise you will get obvious…throw a boom and follow it with target combo for mix up purposes.
Thanks to sonicflash, zeniside and wikum for the encouragement.
I played offline against my brother (he’s the closest competition I have as there is literally no arcade scene whatsoever - unless by closest you mean 3 hour car journey) and it is a complete breath of fresh air. Almost an entirely different game compared to online.
Practiced a little with Ryu (offline). My God, it’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done; all of his moves WORK and they are all really easy to pull off.
I’m definately going to start practicing with all the characters though. And fuck online.
just remember, technically it is safe, but it’s only safe if you connect the boom at the exact right time and follow in with the j.hk as the second hit of your combo. if the j.hk is late then it’s not safe anymore. pretty much the entire cast can punish you for not jumping at the right time, especially if they have ex meter. whether or not they risk the punish is another story entirely. so yea, if your opponent plays safe then this is a really viable tactic.
my guess is that the best character to do this on is abel. even then, if he has meter he can ex tornado throw you out of your block string.
Nah, any decent abel with meter will see you jump after you toss the boom and just EX roll out of there. It can rape almost anyone though if done right. In the odd case I got gief in a corner I’ll normally go for this. I would like to mention it again that if you got your links down, then empty jump into c.lk > c.lp > c.mp xx boom > sweep works a treat. Risky, but it feels great to be a pretend shoto.
hey guys, could anyone post the motions for FA to ultra? i’ve been looking all over for it, but can’t seem to find it. A video would be awesome too
just charge after dashing if you mean after a crumple (can be done off forward or backdash, but back dash ultra seems to hit shitty, you have plenty of time to charge cuz ultra scoops)
if you mean focus dashing:
forwards: charge downback > focus > dash forward > spin stick to up back and hit KKK
backwards: charge downback > focus > tap back > spin stick from forward to up back and hit KKK
Probably old sauce. Guile has the sonic hurricane in SSF4 (see 1:51). didnt quite get a good look at the potential in this move, although doing it willy nilly will obviously land you in trouble with a counter ultra etc. I think that it will be used as a juggle finisher off say an early LK flashkick or LK flashkick super. Can’t see how it can be used as a ground combo , but all will depend on the command input which i expect to be Charge back > F > B > F > 3xpunches. Hell Deejay can combo his ultra from an EX dread kicks.
cr.mk, s.hp, f.hp, st/cr.lp, and cr.mp are my mainstays, but forard sobats and overheads get some decent play too. Used to use standing roundhouse a lot, but have fallen out of the habit.
I use a vast majority of his normals, although the ones i don’t often use (probably due to my style of play) is S LK, Close MK and close HK (spinning heel kick). I tend to finish off combos with a Sonic boom or flash kick which i why these normals are missing in my arsenal. C LK and C LP are two moves i consider to be extremely important for various reasons like combo starters and interupting tick throws.
every attack his its time and place, but I found that the backfist works really well against somebody who tries to jump at you from within sweep range, as you can tag them when they just leave the ground.
Much respect for taking the time to make the tut… I cant tell you how many times Ive land the dash ultra for a surprise win but it happens alot. Granted it only works once in a set and against a certain type of player but its more about having fun when playing online
