Haven’t fought many dhalsim’s you see (less than 40 iirc). So it’s brand new to moi
Dhalsim player told me to L.FK them once they teleport or n.kp (uppercut),it will not work if u block the fireball, I think is “block stun”
I’ll keep that in mind the next time I face a Dhalsim.
I was just wondering how many of you use Guiles kara throw. I never do it, just trying to get some info here…
I’ve read that his kara throw is bad, so have never bothered to practice it. I mean, if it was ryu-style throw range, it would be a different matter. But no, it’s not.
That being said, does Guile have any bullshit? Shotos have their mashable-get-me-out-of-trouble-free-dp, Gief has his 1 button lariat/ pwn-all-spd, blanka has his wonky hitboxes etc. What’s Guile’s bullshit move?
Note: if he has no bullshit move (turtling doesn’t count btw), I’m maining someone else.
Seeya.
You can’t rely on your own abilities?
I made it to G1 with my own abilities, so it’s not that. It’s the fact that I’m mentally getting tired of working my ass off all the time when I know my opponent doesn’t have to work anywhere near as hard - they all can rely on bullshit, I have to play it straight. All. The. Time.
I don’t mind working hard for my victory, but when all my opponent has to do is mash an srk (or whatever their bs move is) everytime I go in for a rush down it gets exhausting. Guile’s not exactly king of turtles either, not when you factor in a rog turtle (who has more hp/stun/damage output AND a Buffalo headbutt)
And I’ve been hit by every bullshit in the game; I’ve been crossed up during an FK, normalled out of an ultra, fb’d out of an FK, dp’d out of a throw, thrown out of a throw…why the fuck can I be crossed up DURING AN FK!
Mind games by your opponent is one thing; mind fucked by the programmers is another! It’s like, they gave Guile EVERY possible nerf in the game. And on top of that he gets no input leniency, no bs moves AND has the longest charge times. There’s only so much my own abilities can do.
I would suggest you take a gander at the frame data for the characters if you can not understand why these situations are happening to you. Also if this is also only online play then that is another factor to your negative experience.
The bold part has me puzzled. Why are you going in for an unsafe rush-down especially against a SRK user? Being aggressive is one thing, but being foolish is another. Have fun failing at this game.
Perhaps it’s just online thing. There’s no arcade scene where I live at all so online is all I got. So it’s probably that.
Gotta bring the fight to them sometime ya know! Tho, it has given me food for thought. Which I am always grateful for.
Maybe I’m at that point where the only way I can get better with Guile (and at this game) is by maining someone else - so I can physically and mentally find out their weakness and adapt accordingly. Actually knowing the inricacies of my oponents may help.
LOL… Seems like people on these boards really let you have it if they don’t agree with you. But dude, I have been in your shoes. I thought that the reason I wasn’t performing up to my potential is because of Guile and not me. Guile has some flaws/disadvantages in this game and we all know that but that is no reason to main another character. I would say just really get on the grind with practice man. If you are serious about getting good with Guile then you have to practice your craft. Guile has some tools to win matches and in the right hands can be dominate so don’t think just because he doesn’t have some of the same shortcuts as other characters he isn’t a good character to main. I think especially is a good time to get your skills up with Guile because if you get pretty good (which I’m assuming you are, you’re in G1) then when SSF4 comes out and Guile gets buffed you will be even better. Hang in there, and if you decide to switch then good luck there too. Just don’t be so hasty…
I gave him another go and actually started pissing around with him in the match - and it worked. I think I just had to scrub out for a minute, so consider the previous post a huge brain fart.
I just get annoyed with online shenanigans and have second-thoughts on using Guile as a result (I wish my flash kick could do what rog’s headbut can do or could be mashed out like a dp etc).
I did learn something new today and that was advanced mind-games. Like literal mind-games where you just fool around in the match and confuse your opponent. Just really irritate/frustrate your opponent. It felt pretty damn good actually. Guile doesn’t have any bullshit, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make some of my own!
So yeah, I scrubbed out for a moment. But I’m all good now. Back to kicking ass with the family man.
Edit: special thanks to zeniside for pointing out that rush-down is pretty dumb against anyone with a dp - I turtled like mad vs a Tiger spewing sagat and it worked! Tried it on a Ryu and we took each other both down to a sliver of life each. Bananas!
Glad to hear that. Just speaking from personal experience, I play online and I know it’s annoying at times but I don’t put to much stock into it. I think most guys on here will tell you online is nothing compared to tourneys so just take it for what it is. That why I’m playing offline a lot more and I’m going to start going to some local tourney and casuals.
Online is not the same as offline. It has its own mind games and shenanigans that do not work offline and vice versa. Guile to me suffers more online than your average shotokan with input delay.
In case this isn’t common knowledge: If you manage to pre-emptively jump Ryu’s super, you can land into ultra.
Anyone have the number of frames for the super pause?
Enough frames to where it’s pretty easy to grab a charge. This is also possible off of a pre-emptive backdash away or neutral jump from gief’s super/ultra.
Your exactly right. I’ve come to the conclusion that 75-80% of online games are a great example of how NOT to play SF. People online really dumb down the game. Ken’s who do nothing but spam DP’s and kara grab, Gief’s who do nothing but Lariat’s, Blanka’s who do nothing but sit on the other side of the screen and do the rolling attack, Sagat’s who do nothing but spam Tiger Shots and DP’s. Do you see where I’m going. It’s like playing a game of poker with 7 guys and 6 out of the 7 are playing correctly and 1 is just bluffing and going all in every hand. It just messes up the flow. That’s why I play offline a lot more than when I first started and probably will get to the point were I don’t play online at all. At least for the game anyway.
Hey all.
I’m starting to get into the habit of back throwing someone into the corner, tossing a slow boom onto them, and starting a jump-in mixup as they block the boom.
What I’m worried about, is that I never see it done in vids, and yet, it ends up working more than I think it should when I play. I know it’s moot vs. characters with dedicated anti-air specials. But is it generally safe to toss this out on characters that rely on normals for their anti-airs?
Actually, depending how it is done, this is safe and even a good idea to use against ryu/gat but only when done correctly. Also, take note that should they wakeup EX shoryu through your boom it will nulify everything, but it seems like great ryu’s will rarely use EX shoryu, even in this situation.
Essentially you back throw and toss out your boom, but the trick is getting into a position where your j.hk will hit towards the end of your boom’s blockstun, but NOT after. Essentially your trying to fool the ryu into thinking he will be able to start going for a reversal shoryu as soon as he blocks your boom, effectively hitting your air attack. He will probably be attempting the shoryu motion during the boom’s blockstun. If done correctly, your j.hk or j.lp (j.lp has a bit more range as a jump in) will hit them while they are attempting to mash out a shoryu, yielding a fat combo in your favor. WORST case scenario is they block the boom and your j.hk, then you can continue pressure.
Against non-dp characters it’s usually good to do the j.hk a little bit later to make them think they could get off an AA normal in time. You can also opt to do it just as early, but empty jump instead and use a combo starting in c.lk. Hell, even on shotos I’ve baited SRK’s by jumping a bit later than usual, only empty jump and watch them whiff a shoryu. This is one of guile’s most reliable mixups, but to get in that sweet spot can be tricky.
Agreed; I use this shit all the time. If you position your op into the corner, lp.sb and follow up with a well timed jump or b.lk.
