Guile in Super Street Fighter IV (arcade version)

The biggest is the airthrow nerf. From 3 frames to 4 frames

did every airthrow get nerfed or just guiles?

cause otherwise thats just ffffffffffff

The problem with SH is not so much about its dmg, but rather it’s startup, which is about U1 speed or slower. I get only 2 pathetic hits usually when I punish Ryu/Sagat’s FB on reaction. How can a tiger shot ultra be faster than a boom ultra?

I think Capcom nerfed airthrow for the sake of the twins.

No…others didnt get nerfed on frames afaik, heck hakans(I know its hakan) is 2fr, vega and chun are 3 and cammy is 5(and you see how much that is used)

The more I think about it, I like Vanilla Guile over AE…
I will take 3fr airthrow,
slower booms
no SH
more meter(makes up for slower booms)
more dmg on shp, backfist, sweep and FK
over the buffs going from Vanilla to AE(listed below)

I hate the airthrow nerf most-
From someone who has played a lot of AE…is it really THAT bad? I was trying to be optimistic and think…well ill just try and hit it sooner with timing?

Well I think I might take that back, considering the nerfs to the REST of the cast as well, in comparison, it is probably better or the same for him in AE overall, but it still is very hard for me to judge without even having played any AE. The crossup divekicks look scary.
I forgot upsidedown kick dmg was also nerfed.

He now does a LOT less dmg and thats what I like most about him in Vanilla.

ok yeah i found it… maybe i’ll dust off my cody play for AE, he’s the only character i used for any real length of time in super who seems to have gotten better and not worse.

i miss SF2 guile.

if nothing else, can they at least buff guile by giving him back his WW win quote…

Guile did lousy damage in Vanilla. He could totally be outdamaged by the entire cast. That was one of his main weaknesses. They didn’t improve his damage in Super, but they normalized the damage for other characters, so Guile’s damage output seems to have made sense. I mean I can deal with the other nerfs, but to flat out nerf his damage is stupid. It’s not like he did a ton to begin with. And I’ve always looked at Guile as a punishment character, so damage for him is essential. Guile can rely on just swinging and hitting you consistently.

Guile did a ton of easy damage in this game, the damage nerfs didnt kill him. The Air throw nerf, the SH nerfs and the SB Counter hit nerfs did.

after watching several Ae matchs i finally seen the air throw, and to me it didnt look that bad as everyone makes it to be, but im not guile expert (it did look alot slower)

The biggest bitch i have is the U2 nerf.

real talk. I typically land about 4 backfists per match. i use that move constantly, for better or worse.

the damage nerf on it is a bigger deal to me than the airthrow nerf. I don’t ever leave the ground in this game (i’d have to let go of downback), not even for airthrow.

and as for sonic hurricane? well, i can always go back to ultra 1:rofl:

Just going back in this thread and wow, JUST WOW. I effin didnt even know the boom stuns were nerfed too. zomg.
So…just to detail the list for those like me that didnt know the more fine details…

  • FK dmg - LK/MK/HK/EX flash kick damage is 100[80]/120[80]/130[80]/100*80 was 130/140/160
  • glancing hit FK dmg - [100] to [80]
  • backfist dmg - 120 to 90
  • U2 dmg - 420 to 300
  • U2 startup - slowed 2 frames.
  • UDK damage - 120 to 100
  • air throw range - 1.25 to 1.07
  • air throw startup - 3 to 4 fr.
  • boom hitstun/blockstun LP/MP/HP/EX sonic boom blockstun reduced to +4/+2/+0/+1 - WAS +6/+4/+2/+1
  • Meter gain - halved on boom

I dont even want to ask but…
What exactly are the details of the SB counter hit nerf?

I will take effing VANILLA GUILE any day of the week!

guile takes counter hit damage during sonic booms active and recovery frames, instead of just start up frames

Oh that should make jump ins(aka divekicks) much more fun. AA/boom spacing has to be perfect.
