I’ll be repping Guile at Evo this year too. It would be so cool if they made this Anniversary Edition style. Super Guile versus vanilla Sagat. That would be an awesome matchup.
A little offtopic but still Guile related…so like, Guile’s Sonic Boom in SFxT is qcf+P currently.
I wasn’t really interested in this game, but now I’m kind of intrigued at this non-charge Guile. As much as I like Guile as a charge character, I am interested and seeing how he plays as a rolling command type character. I can only assume they’re going to give it the recovery of Seth’s Sonic Boom to balance him out. Maybe with this change, he won’t be as “limited” with the game engine as he is with the Focus System in SF4(along with the other charge characters). Maybe it will work, or maybe it wont…who knows. It could be fun for shits n’giggles.
Are you sure gilley? as much as the idea of qcf sonic booms brings lulz, this article seems to have a pretty SF savy person going through each of the characters and stating nothing particularly interesting about Guile. I’m pretty sure if this guy knows anything about SF AT ALL (which is seems to clearly), then unless he’s just straightup making things up about trying Guile then I think the first thing he’d mention is a QCF+P Sonic Boom cuz that’s just… what is this I dont even…
The quote:
“Guile
Also pretty much the same as he was in Street Fighter IV. He can charge up his Sonic Boom in the same way Ryu can charge up his Hadoukens, with Guile?s level 3 becoming Sonic Hurricane.
He keeps his cr.MK > towards + MP chain, his down/towards + HK into Flash Kick, his air-throws, cr.LP still links into cr.MP? I didn?t notice anything different about Guile.”
Did you actually hear that from a source or just guessing from the video? It could just be a super short charge time, but I did catch that GHK > EX boom combo too.
Also, some screens were posted from the japanese AE blog and it doesn’t look like it will be anniversary edition style. I still hope from the bottom of my heart but… I am just so full of wishes. Wishes of f.mk and UDK actually hitting crouching attacks… wishes of forcing incentive to try to get on me… wishes of a working ultra… wishes of being able to do damage… ugh. Don’t mind me, I had a bad night against a random No Name master rank ryu player today. Just destroyed me… I swear I wouldn’t mind all the nerfs if they gave him some footsie options, namely the f.mk actually doing it’s job as a damn hopkick and a sweep that was made safer somehow. I always thought it would be sweet to make the second hit of the sweep FA cancellable… meaning it could be super cancellable too.
Sorry about that.

Markman was saying he played it a lot during the Captivate event. He said it’s qcf+p
EDIT: He was also saying Chunli had some different commands. It was the Lightning Kicks, he said it was hcf+k. This is so you can hold the button down to charge up the move. You can charge up specials in this game.
EDIT2: http://shoryuken.com/content/8-minutes-game-play-street-fighter-x-tekken-captivate-2011-4217/ <-- 8:00min mark you can see Chunli charging up the LK’s using this new command.
was the flashkick still a charge move? maybe the plan is to get rid of all charge moves to keep the action really moving?

markman may have been hallucinating? maybe the ULTRA is qcf+p?
edit: sorry for double post
Hrm, interesting. I’ll go smack markman I guess. Looks like Chun’s LK is changed though.
back to not caring about this game
I just watched a video on the 360 dash board advertising Capcoms upcoming releases. When it came SSF4 AE Capcom said that AE players can play Super and it is cross compatible, the super players will just have to DL a small patch for this work. I’m still learning and will still play guile regardless of the outcome. Best of luck to the tournament players!
If i find a link to the video i will post it.
Who knew fail word choice could create such rukus, and capcom previous sf2 games caused even more trouble due to comparision and stuff. Anyhow, SFxT Guile looks extreme badass, and charging special mechanics looks super cool and super diverse, and could help guile get new moves while still using 2 special attacks. Wonder what charged flash kick would be like.
Oh and Thanks Slinkin, you opened my eyes, I can never leave dem shades.
Hey guys, Im on PC so I been using vanilla guile this whole time, and I really dont mind him at all. Can anyone throw me a quick summary as to what all was buffed from vanilla to Super, I know about the AE nerfs, but want to know what will improve.
I know shp and sweep was also nerfed(both hits) from vanilla to Super.
I see down below:
Backfist range(elaborate?), U2, less gimp U1, boom charge time.
Any other normal or dmg/range buffs or nerfs that happened from Vanilla?
Thanks!!
Not a whole lot of damage nerfs I believe that the only things touched were s.hp 120 to 100 and 2nd hit of sweep 140 to 110… and U1’s damage shifted to the final kick having the most oomph.
- Backfist range extended to hit just beyond his fist. It’s got some quality invisible hitbox there.
- Boom charge time lowered from 55f to 50f.
- Bazooka knee recovery shortened by something like 7 frames.
- Df.hk juggles, hur hur.
- Glancing flashkick damage upped to 100 from… 70…? I think?
- Shades.
There were always rumors about c.mk getting better, but I think those were just early rumors and I don’t think anything was ever proven.
I think cr. mk recovers 1 frame faster from vanilla but still had the same startup…not sure though.
Awesome, this is just what I wanted, THANKS…
I was hoping his mid air kick(forward mk) was buffed too but this is still good stuff.
I didnt know about the backfist, knee or FK dmg glance buff either.
FYI 1st hit of sweep went down from 110 to 100 too I think, and 2nd you were right, 140 to 110.
Tier rankings: Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition by Kindevu : News : EventHubs.com
did you guys see this new tier list? Ma boy guile is back to dan tier. cries. Atleast we can still put on dem shades. :crybaby:
Oh well, I guess it wont be so bad for me anyway, coming right from vanilla to AE…I wasnt spoiled on that sweet Super Guile goodness, but will miss my 120 damage on shp and meter on boom
just be glad you aren’t using t.hawk. going from bad to worse.
for those who’ve been playing AE: what would you say is the single biggest problem with guile in AE after super? (be it a nerf, or a buff to another character)
sh…
Eh. Aside from rexell’s obvious comment about das hurricane, it really is a combination of the 13 some odd nerfs combined that did it. No single one thing really did him in.
On a side note, B- tier isn’t the end of the world. I still hold he’s not as bad as vanilla. Relatively accurate tier list aside from some odd choices here and there, like cody, sakura, and hakan. I’ve seen some pretty damn good hakans in AE… he has some good setups too that are pretty hard to deal with.
is there a full list of guiles nerfs anywhere?
are these correct:
sonic hurricane less damage,
sonic boom earns less meter,
sonic boom counterhits do more damage to guile,
backfist does less damage,
flashkick does less damage
anything else?
