adon and guile ftw.
Hey, look at it this way about AE Guile…he’s still better than Vanilla Guile. And anyone who put up with him during that time, knows any version of him so far is easy incomparison. I changed up scoop of Guile along time ago(e.i., I don’t just turtle and boom away), so playing Guile as is…is actually quite interesting.
I haven’t posted anything in the Guile forums in months (ever since Guile was considered A tier), and I’ve been using Hakan for the most part these months, but I think AE is still pretty good. I had a few matches today…I still think Guile can cut it. Gotta work on my stick skills…but yeah, like Dieminion and Slinkun…Guile players gotta step up there game and really play him more versatile then he already is.
A million times this! Easily my two favorite characters with two vastly different playstyles to suit me.
disappointing seeing so many of the new generation jumping on/off bandwagons
you cant hope to achieve anything if you dont insist on mastering your character and learning matchups, good and bad
grats to rebelo and dieminion. shit was godlike
if anyone hasnt added me yet plz do…
Looking forward to that Guile vs Dhalsim writeup. They’re TOUGH to beat and I havent even touched AE yet!
^ Agree. Very interested in hearing what you have to say about the sim matchup.
I also had a lot of fun watching the Guile mirror, but… why didn’t either of you guys press the advantage? It seemed like there were a lot of great opportunities to do a good meaty boom setup in the corner or a solid crossup mid screen. Worst case scenario for either of those is you get meter and they take chip. Then the match resets.
New generation? Even the best players in the world, many of who have been playing for decades, keep switching characters. Mago declared Sagat a mid tier character in super and he subsequently switched to Fei Long. At the end of last year, Daigo said that fireball characters are no longer effective in AE, so he switched to Yun all of a sudden. And from what I’ve seen, Justin Wong has been heavily experimenting with Yang and the improved Makoto. The truth is that no one wants to use bad characters, especially when there are superior alernative choices.
Speaking of switching characters, Kyotojin has switched to DeeJay. I’ve read that LamerBoi has done the same. Does anyone know if that’s true?
On a positive note, remember Yoshiwo? Looks like he is still going strong with Guile. He’s currently sitting at A rank with roughly 21k bp and 220ish wins at a 70% win ratio. Played about 4 matches with him this evening… talk about a hellish mirror match! Perfect AA, perfect backfists, perfect… jumps… just everything. Come to think about it, I should have recorded some of his matches against other people… I think he frequents Yokohama, so I’ll make sure to bring my camera next time.
Nah, Lamerboi still uses Guile and will continue to for the foreseeable future. He said he uses Dee Jay just for fun.
Yoshiwo already made the Ryu match up look on Guile’s favor in SF4 (in one match vs an excellent patient ryu, the opponent could not land a clean hit for a round!).
He is extremely patient, cant wait to see his matches in SSF4 AE.
Now that the SSFIV:AE blog has started updating again with more character info, maybe we can get something cool out of the Guile changes they gave. Maybe c.mk can now be canceled into a special move? lmao. Ohh, or it’s hit stun makes c.mk s.hp possible? Maybe they gave his shades some invincible start up frames. Nah, they probably nerfed the shades too. Gave it a longer start up or something.
I feel the same way. I can’t lie however, when I heard of Guile’s changes I almost switched over to Bison just to try a change of pace but I can’t seem to drop the family man. I’ll post up my thoughts when I get to head out to Game Galaxy in TN. We got AE so I’m souped.
During the winter break I went to LA and played at family fun arcade and Guile still felt pretty solid I’d say he wasn’t nerfed but instead was “balanced.”
The counter hit on projectiles is pretty lame though. i can just imagine dudley ducking my sonic booms and stunning me super fast.
Anyways quick question I have that has been bothering me is how does abel’s breathless work in AE? I did not play any abels when I was there and I want to know how that move works now. I was just playing super and it feels like I have to not get hit the entire round because abel almost always gets free damage with that move. what’s weird is I usually beat abel players that use ultra 1 and that the abels that use ultra 1 are more than often all around better players than players that use ultra 2.
now I pretty much just use El Fuerte against abel but I hate the idea of switching to my secondary character because my main is consistently getting owned. I’d rather use my secondary for if I get bored of using my main.
The big difference now is that Breathless doesn’t have armor anymore once Abel starts moving forward, so basically he can only absorb a hit while stationary which means he can’t travel through a sonic boom unless he absorbs it near point blank range.
oni and evil ryu being playable is probably very bad news for guile.
Hey, at least guile gets counter hit damage when he gets hit during the one special he can safely use. And at least I dont have to use my meter to FADC > ultra like everyone else…that shit does no damage now with U2.
meanwhile we got new characters with airdashes n’stuff. I want an airdash!
I just had an idea, would it really break guile at all if he could hold his SB charge like Oni/Gouken’s projectile, then release for a 2-hit SB. Capcom seems to be experimenting with the shoto theme with gouken/oni/evil ryu. I just wish they’d experiment with the Guile theme a bit. It’s a theme that no one seems to like and no one can seem to get around which leads to dumb nerfs.
Oni akuma looks really interesting though, I want to try him out. I hope FFA gets the code to unlock them soon.
OMG i was playing AE at lovegety, did the fk fadc to sh hoping to kill this ryu… it did like 200 damage total. I thought someone was playing a practical joke on me.
I think it’s still alright to use flashkick FADC hurricane only off of random GTFO flashkicks or traded flashkicks… but only because you were going to spend the meter anyways, so might as well get an extra 60-80 damage.
I’m still torn on a lot of matches with which ultra to use. U1 feels impossible to land but feels GREAT when you do… and it can completely turn a match around. On the other hand, I normally find a lot of setups to use U2… but when I do it just feels sad.
I don’t know which ultra to pick now too but I usually pick U2 cos I never really played Super seriously and I needed to get used to it.
Now you know why I think Guile is useless in AE. U2 is too slow to hit and does super low dmg and also hard to use as an AA unless the opponent press an attack. And U1 is really hard to land consistently and that’s why I said that with the current changes. You can still win with him but you have to put in a lot more effort than in Vanilla. His traditional zoning game doesn’t really work in AE and the changes were nerfs.
I think they should have lowered the dmg on U2 and that’s it regarding ultra changes. They made it real slow which makes it near useless. I tried to punish Ryu’s FB with U2 and what I see is Ryu’s hands retreating nicely at the same time SH travels towards him missing him by an inch.
With the current meter gain from the Yun and Guile matchup, it’s really a joke that Guile has to be the one to advance even though he is the one with a projectile. I don’t about you guys but Yun is a much harder matchup for me than Rufus and I think he really tears Guile apart. I even think Vanilla Sagat is easier to fight than Yun.

I would find that fair. Why should Guile be the one with a disadvantage when it comes to projectiles? Yeah okay…sure, Guile has the quick recovery, but come on. Guile has only 2 special moves.
As for Oni and Evil Ryu, I wouldn’t say it’s a complete disadvantage for Guile because of the Stamina. Guile users need to rely on a lot of pokes, zoning, and anti-airs because the Ultras are pretty much useless against experienced players.
On another note, there is one character left to be revealed on SSFIV AE (Hugo is pretty much leaked after that icon appeared). I wouldn’t be surprised if the last character is either Remy or Charlie. Everyone thinks it’s Alex…but I don’t see how he would fit within SSFIV AE.
