Yeah totally, Seth U2 being beat by U1 is great now. So crazy how EX Flash Kick beats out dp now. Seth will be able to zone with Sim arms on the ground though still right?
yea as soon as i started to really think about all the nerfs, i realised that this match was going to be back to vanilla difficulty…
…oh and the more i see, the more i’m convinced that the twins are near broken lol.
seth rapes guile. he can fierce booms similar to how sim can, and his mix up on knock down is like a 80-20 guessing game in his favor. he has 200 less life but his stun and damage output is significantly higher. after a knockdown guile has to guess right several times to escape pressure. he can bait anti airs and air to airs with early dive kick. his jump strong is the best air-to-air normal in the game.
i played at least 100 matches as yang on sunday, and i dont think he’s broken. his dive kicks have very little block stun. he’s a solid character and his ground game is sick, but i think guile will beat yang.
yun is definitely more of a threat. ex shoulder can be done on reaction to jab boom. and his dive kicks are stronger. yangs ex roll is too slow to be used on reaction to jab boom, yangs u2 is pretty slow as well.
dive kicks are not too hard to anti air.
The ex flash kick beating seth’s dp, how does that work now? Is it every dp?
I finally played and all I can say is that imo, Vanilla Guile IS a stronger version than AE Guile.
At least in Vanilla, people are actually afraid of Guile’s hp variants, and meter build is a lot faster. Even if booms are slower in Vanilla, you still have the luxury of throwing EX booms sometimes which is important at full screen in a lot of matchups.
SH on hit without dmg scaling is like 2 throws and slow as fuck that it’s even worse than U1 now. I’d rather go for FADCing forward a FB and U1 Ryu compared to using SH as it trades with his FB for so little dmg. Backfisting Yang out of his divekick only nets you c.mk dmg and you lose charge. I don’t know if this is true but I got hit during SH recovery and it seems that I took more dmg too.
I’m sure if you were to magically port the exact Vanilla Guile over to AE now, he would be much stronger than AE Guile even if the charge time is longer. I think he can’t compete now at all in high level play a few months down the road.
Sonic hurricane and boom charge time are still two VERY important tools for dealing with fireball characters.
U2 means no more corner lockdown once you have ultra stocked, since you can U2 on reaction to a fireball in the range that it matters. FA dash > U1 is neat, but whenever this is done, it’s not on reaction, it’s on a guess that they will throw another fireball. U2 fixes this problem by giving you something solid to work with in the corner… even IF the damage is less than stellar.
Boom charge = super important. No matter which way you slice it. The lack of meter is depressing… but if i had to pick one over the other, I would take charge time over meter gain. I think it makes him a bit more versatile… giving him a bit of edge in the chun match specifically, as well as any other fireball character.

Edit: Oh, and I’m going to be finally making a pilgramage to bigbox over in shinjuku tomorrow to hopefully play against some of the top top players in Japan. crosses fingers for Umehara being there Expect a full Yun writeup, lol.
Slinkun the big guys are playing at Safari in Ikebukuro now, not Big Box.
Tokido’s blog says that kyotojin dropped Guile for DJ.
Ikebukuro eh? Still in Tokyo. I swear… I never have enough time to check these things anymore. Thanks for the tip man.
Picking U1 or U2?
Does Daigo want his Yun hidden from the internet? There aren’t any videos. Slinkun, be an hero!
I see the difference between AE and Super very well. I played a few matches with some good players in both versions last night and to be honest, outside of the bad match-ups, I feel like I clearly have an advantage over all of the characters in Super. Not as bad as SF4 Gouki though. But I feel the game shouldn’t allow characters to destroy 85-90% of the cast. You have to play Guile as if you’ve never touched Super (console version) before. To be honest, if you take SSF4 out of the 3 games, then AE is like a balanced version of SF4 with new characters. Japan is probably going to be on top again due to the fact that a lot of the players never touched SSF4 because a lot of them don’t play console, therefore they are spoiled with SSF4 version of characters.
Yes, Guile is in a terrible position when he gets knocked down, but most characters have those one or two bad situations that makes up their weaknesses. However, in AE most characters have gotten small changes that helps them to better their weaknesses. Guile on the other hand was given a “Reverse Spin Kick buff” that wasn’t completely looked into and it doesn’t help him with his bad match-ups, only gives him another form of attack close range. For the million nerfs that were given, I at least think that Flash Explosion should have auto-correct properties with some reduced damage of course, and Rolling Sobat should have airborne properties. It would help him with his weaknesses that makes up most of his bad matches, but hey gotta deal with it.
Dhalsim is always going to give Guile a hard time when you’re not close. That’s just something we have to deal with. Dhalsim’s b.short and b.forward have less start-up now so that should help when we finally do get in. I’ll do a Dhalsim write up soon, I pretty much figured out the match-up in AE. It’s not impossible, it’s actually not as hard as many think, but it’s still not in Guile’s favor.
Overall, I’d say that Guile is closer to SF4 days, just slightly better. Now you have to work for your wins even more, not worse than vanilla) but he’s still manageable. The only thing I completely disagree with is the Counter Hit nerf. It makes players more gutsy to want to try something during your zoning knowing they’ll get an added bonus when they do. Now you can’t mindlessly throw booms and anti-air accordingly, there is another strategy involved. Now you’re FORCED to sometimes stop throwing booms to watch out for opponent attempts to break through your defense. This encourages a better ground game from players, hopefully making them a better overall Guile player. I guess us Guile players have been spoiling ourselves a bit, abusing the fact that booms are semi-safe. And switching to Dee Jay is not going to help us keep the same style because he is worse off than Guile in throwing Air slashers because they have more recovery than booms. Dee Jay has a different style than Guile I’ve realized and yes, he is more potent offensively, but doesn’t have the same options as Guile defensively and is not as solid on the ground. He is a great character though
With that being said, I’m not going to be a sellout like most of the tourney/top players and switch because my character is not as good anymore. Guile is still very much viable and I’m tired of people saying that I win all of the time because my character is “top tier”. I’ve been getting great results since mid to late SF4 days and that shows that it not because of a character that you’re winning, it’s the player behind the character. If this was the case then Daigo would not have gotten 1st at EVO because Ryu is clearly around the mid-tier mark in Super. I liked it better when people acknowledged me for playing a low-tier character, and Guile’s not even low tier in AE. So let’s all just become better as players and still kick ass with Guile.
Agree’d I’m willing to work harder for my wins to prove that Guile is still viable.
nice post dieminion, you convinced me with your last paragraph, but I guess guile players should really pick up a counter pick character for guile’s worst match ups . I love guile and I wont give up on him regardless of the nerfs . I am just a hardcore online gamer.
with 37 characters in a game that is so match up based it is definitely in ones best interest to pick up a second character. i would use guile exclusively if it wasn’t for the sim match up.
Guile vs 85% cast
Bison vs Sim, Akuma
Blanka vs Fuerte
Honda vs Viper
solid counters lol
that is literally what i play now in casuals or tournament. LOL. Tired of Fuerte just shitting on my face.
I actually feel like guile is like 6-4 against 85% the cast. even 5-5s are like somehow in guile’s favor… go figure.
ugh, fuerte
Yo Orlando, if you really wanna wreck Fuerte, why stop with Blanka? Pick Honda! Didn’t realize you were also counterpicking with Bison haha.
i just like blanka in that matchup a lot. Playing cambell has helped me. I only play 6-4 matchups now. I even use ryu vs akuma
and i gotta go Dictator against FlipChamp. Imma lose anyway but at least i got a chance.
