Guile General Discussion: Go home and be a family man

Could someone show the annotations or key data when doing the loops? I’m not having much success when I’m following up after a few of these sonic break sequences. Thanks in advance.

What sonic boom pattern do I do with guile in v trigger midscreen to get that guaranteed lockdown from a boom so i can get a free empty jump into low? Is it heavy, heavy, light?

(1) What is the difference between the two air throws? Is it like USF4 where the DB one is when you are below and want to reach UP the target and the neutral one is for when you want to grab someone BELOW you?
(2) What is the difference between the 3 normal Flashkicks? They all do the same damage and go the same distance, but is not the HK version the only one immune to throws?

Thanks.

Guile is really good in this game but I think he’s going to have massive trouble winning tournaments (even more than season 1) because of characters like Balrog, Dhalsim, Ken and now Akuma is in the mix. The reason he IS good though is because his match up chart is pretty good overall. His bad matches aren’t super awful like in SF4. I don’t think he’s got a 3-7.

correct me if Im wrong, but are Ibuki, Sim, Juri and Balrog some of Guile’s worst match ups in season 2?
Been struggling to win games vs decent players, so I started to check out Daigo’s Guile replays and he is losing like almost every game as well vs these characters

trying to find some counter tech atm

I’m not a Guile player, but I do have some interest in the character. From what I’ve seen I can’t say I agree that hes top 5. Imo hes more like 6th or 7th. The top 5 are all explosive characters that can kill you off of one combo and a reset/mixup and they all have safe/easy ways in. Guiles zoning is strong sure but he doesnt have pure 50/50 situations that lead into big damage/stun. So I can’t see him being as good as Laura, Urien or Balrog.

Is there an up to date season 2 matchup chart for Guile?

Not yet.

I think he’s going to be like season one again - a good secondary character for players like Nuckledu and Daigo. He absolutely wrecks Urien. I think he does really well against most of the cast now. It’s just I think there’s a few characters that are going to turn up in tournaments a lot like Balrog that he will struggle against and it will ultimately stop him from dominating.

I haven’t played enough against Ibuki, Sim or Juri to really give an opinion (which is unfortunate). I’ve played a million Balrog’s including some diamond ones and I think that it’s 6-4 in Balrog’s favour purely down to what Cheech mentions in the post I’ve quoted of his - Balrog’s explosive damage. Guile can hold his own, then Balrog gets one jump in and you eat literally 450hp for one mistake.

Akuma is actually worse than Balrog in some regards but easier in others. He has a harder time getting in than Balrog but all he needs is one knockdown and then you have to guess. Two wrong guesses, two combos, you’re stunned and he wins.

Interesting. Can you explain why?

Maybe it’s just because I know the match well as I main both characters. Basically he just zones him out fairly straightforwardly. Urien has to take loads of risks against Guile like jumping and using the knee drop but Guile can deal with that easily. If the Urien tries to play lame, Guile wins the fireball war. Then Urien starts to charge the fireball to deal with Guile’s V-Skill fireball and this is where you can start getting big damage from jump ins etc. Also, Urien’s wakeup is pretty bad even with meter, so he’s one of the characters Guile can pressurise without too much fear. Of course you have to watch out for Aegis but that’s the same for any character.

^ the thing about balrog is not only his damage output.
it’s hella difficult to see what is safe and what not, also in USF4 you could react with FK vs his dash punches ( or what these are called ) in SFV it’s almost impossible to react vs these with FK even from 2/3 of the screen.
they are just coming out so fast like :frowning:

I feel like this is a 7/3 match up in Balrog’s favor
Nash in this case does better but still only 4/6 vs rog

also I just watched this, tbh Im watching a lot of nash / Guile vs Balrog matches on youtube these days to figure out what can be done better in this MU

Chris G’s Guile looked a bit rusty to me (he’s been playing a lot of Akuma recently). I genuinely think Daigo has the best Guile right now.

I’ve been starting to use a whole lot of bazooka knee lately. It’s crazy good since the update.
At max range it is +1 on block. This means if you’re confident with the range then you can abuse it against anyone with a 4f jab. Counter hit b. lk is +5 from max range so you can combo into cr. lpxxboom or flash kick. I like to use it for block strings in the corner because I can extend my pressure and any stray hit can lead into a sweep/v-trigger for big damage.

Guile is easily a top 3 character right now. Want a hard counter to Laura that isn’t Gief? Guile’s the man for the job. Glad I always liked this character so I always have a secondary for Laura’s bad matchups.

don’t know if this was known already but sonic hurricane/tempest starts up in 7 frames not 6. I was trying to link tempest after st mp which is +6 and it wasn’t working so I tried also linking from ch cr. lp (also +6) and then punishing ryu’s hadouken (-6). None of these worked but you can link from a ch sonic break which is +7.

tl;dr FAT is wrong, sonic hurricane/tempest is 7 frames not 6.

Anyone got replays of this mythical Guile that keeps getting 2 VT’s a round? I really would like to see him. I’m serious. I’ve watched many hours of Guile replays and have yet to find him.

Anyone know how Du is doing so much godlike shit with st.lk? St.lk/boom and st.lk/flash kick I’ve seen done before (I’ve never used it myself) but like he even hit confirms st.lk into super in grand finals. I’m thinking there’s a trick to it. I’m wondering if this made easier by combining both the analogue and the dpad on the dual shock 4 or something?

NM my post

Am I reading the change log correctly? Guile’s MK Flash Kick is now completely vulnerable to jumping attacks??

Guile

Forward Throw
Recovery after a successful throw increased by 3F
Reverse Spin Kick
Advantage on hit reduced from +6F to +4F
M Somersault Kick
Added a hurtbox to the attack/projectile invincibility for frames 3 to 8F
Added invincibility for airborne attacks for frames 1 to 8F
V-Trigger – Solid Puncher
Number of V-Gauge blocks increased from 2 to 3
Sonic Breaker
V-Timer gauge consumption restored to Season 1
EX Sonic Break
V-Timer gauge consumption restored to Season 1

These are the changes. Can anyon explain the m.fk changes to me? The wording is confusing to me. I get it’s now the best choice for aa, but I don’t understand the other part at all.
