Guile General Discussion: Go home and be a family man

I think MK FK is no longer invincible to attack/projectile from frame 3. You gotta use the heavy version for that. Not sure if that affects lk.fk too.

He seems still pretty solid.

Hello guys. i need some help on the sonic loop, specifically comboing into HP.Sonic boom. I can’t get cr.MP to connect to it. Here’s a vid of it:

Seriously, how the fuck is du doing this? https://twitter.com/HiFightTH/status/847786927096856576

I got st.lk, flash kick down though (not that hard at all actually). St.lk, boom is a bit tougher though.

wow this match up again

Urien absolutely gets rekt in this matchup. I couldn’t agree more. You simply cannot get in on the bastard.

N Wikum, I’ll try out the Du Dang special lk xx CA later and see what’s up. It’s too pro

I managed to pull it off but it’s not very easy. I think he’s got a trick way of easily converting it.

What do you guys think about Guile vs. Cammy and Laura?

Which one character counters Balrog, Karin and Dhalsim the best? My Bison is the only secondary I have which is up to scratch right now.

  1. Is Guile balanced in this game?

  2. Do opponent character’s have answers to Guile’s sonic boom, sonic cross, anti-air game?

Seems a tad too strong in this game, just wondering if he’s strayed from Capcom’s original vision of him.

  1. What are Guile’s apparent weaknesses?

Thanks.

Guile is balanced among the higher tier. Like any thread for a high tier character you don’t see people freaking out about how OP their character Guile is and if anything talk about struggles more.

You can see most high level players in tournaments find answers to his boom game. Unless you’re playing like Gief or Birdie it’s far from insurmountable.

Same weaknesses he usually has. Charge based reversal means people can abuse overheads and safe jumps to force him to let go of his down charge which weakens his defense. Once you get in he only has 4 frame lights so looser frame traps with heavier buttons work well against him. He’s not as set play centric as the other high tiers so he can’t swing a life deficit as well as other characters.

It’s not as hard as it sounds. You just need to release downback, press lk and then input forward back forward punch. neutral lk to forward should have seamless transition.

NM my post

Just so you guys know, I will not be making a match up thread for Ed, nor will I be making any future match up threads. This is because I was warned not to make any more threads. I dunno why but whatever.

any tips on Guile Trial #9 Vol 2?

I can’t link the ex somersault kick after the ex boom.

How do people feel about guile? I personally like that his v-meter cost 3 now. Got an extra v-reversal. Otherwise haven’t noticed to big of a difference with guile other than upside down kick only combos with medium punch after counter hit. I still haven’t got into the habit of using medium flash kick as my anti air still.

If you’re still having trouble with this, start charging down immediately after completing the notion for the EX Sonic Boom. You should have enough time to charge an EX Flash Kick that will juggle the opponent just as he begins his descent to the floor.

St.lk boom or flash kick is so easy now, even on pad, so I’m really liking that. I even landed max range counter hit sobat, cr.lp, st.lk, boom, super online the other day and I was feeling myself lol. Being able to flash kick and then dash, cr.lp x2, st.lk, boom block string consistently is good stuff.

During ELeague I could’ve sworn I saw Nuckledu doing counter hit sobat, st.lk, flash kick, super. Did I imagine this or is it possible? Like I’ve already said I can do it after a boom but flash kick is a different thing altogether.

Why would you use a light punch instead of stand medium after a flash kick dash? The only reason I can think of is to bait slow reversals like Urien’s or Ed’s.

For those who don’t know, St.lk or st.lp to FK is just holding charge, and when you move the arcade stick/pad/ddr pad to neutral, you press either button and then up (or left/right for SB) and complete the input command. There is a tutorial on youtube for it months old. If you’re trying to do the target combo into lk MP SB, i feel its too risky, and would rather use st.lp xx MP SB, LP SB.

Playing as Guile in this video, I exhibit the most competent resistance I could pose against Ryu, and the CPU was only like level three. I’ve used Guile primarily in every Street Fighter game I’ve played. The ones I’ve put some time into include Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, and Street Fighter V. I cannot seem to become a beast at this series, but I did manage to get through Arcade mode on medium level difficulty (without any continues) in both Street Fighter IV & the Street Fighter for the Switch.
