Looks like he’s got the tired-and-true SFII Guile: high damage, high priority moves/normals, and to control space like a mo’fo (something this game desperately needs with the rush heavy cast). He looks like he’s slow though. He sort of hovers when he jumps. And some of his normals, especially that overhead MP, looks unsafe as hell. Gotta see more of him and the frame data.
Strange that they took that property from his Flash Kick when Ryu, Ken, Cammy, and Necalli get meterless reversals. And he doesn’t seem to get a 3f jab either? AND his CA is charge? Lame, but could be fixed at a later time and not THAT big of a deal.
I didn’t expect the best zoner in the game to have a good meterless reversal. Not sure why anyone did. EX flash kick being fully invincible is good enough. Still puts him above Nash who has no 3 frame normal or a true reversal and has won the 2 biggest majors so far. Which shows that as long as your character has a really strong neutral game that can offset having to V Reversal when shit gets rough.
True, and Guile has an actual V-Reversal instead of a teleport. As long as it’s still a good AA, it’ll be fine, but his array of AA normals might relegate it to being a combo ender 90% of the time.
And what’s up with his b.HP? It looks like they made the “recoil on block” animation his default.
I’m more than happy to just have a fully invincible EX Flash, moreso if regular Flash wins out more in the air. Especially in SFV where it’s way less likely one knockdown turns into setplay fuckball. I do expect to not get to use V-Trigger a lot though just on the virtue that V-Reversal is going to probably be too important on average. If you can’t get the meter to have EX Flash or V-Reversal on hand when they get in you deserve to have to deal with at least some fuckery.
If you got super an anti air flash can lead to big damage with a CA cancel. That’s reason enough to use it as an anti air over his normals (with meter of course)
Yeah we’ll see where it goes. I think the fact that he can EX reversal makes him more likely to have V Trigger ready than other 3 bar trigger characters. Bison and Gief both aren’t going to be V Triggering every round because no 3 frame and no true reversal so they kinda have to. Bison doesn’t have a good V Skill for building Gauge against non projectile characters which doesn’t help either.
Whereas Necalli is going super saiyan often because he has the best V Skill in the game for building V Gauge while still having 3 frame normals, the most crush counters in the game and a meterless DP. With that said you still see Haitani and PR Rog burn V Reversals but its more so as a luxury to reduce stun and get a knockdown safely. Which makes sense since they require a lot less commitment, but still allow you to throw away any pressure with heavy block stun.
I say overall it comes down to how well he builds V Gauge with his V Skill. If it’s not a complete pain to build V Gauge with his V Skill should be plausible to choose between burning V Trigger or V Reversal.
Guile, more than anyone else, is one of those characters I’ve always had a lot of trouble breaking. So, as I pensively watched that trailer… second by second… I watched all my greatest fears come to life.
Agreed… Season 2 will hopefully have at least another 2 or 3 SF2 characters maybe. I think popularity would make it Gouki and Sagat. Sadly unlikely to see a complete SF2 roster for a while.
Guile/Chun is traditionally a pretty interesting matchup. I’d can’t wait to see how Guile can handle this matchup in this game. LP sonic boom will be a nice tool to stop IA legs bullshit hopefully.
I’m thinking Necali is gonna be trouble for Guile. Between his Vskill and forward slice, hard to throw projectiles against him.
