Guide: How to put art under clear Seimitsu buttons

That’s what I use. Works great.

Does this work with clear Sanwa buttons??

I am wondering the same thing is max. Can you place art under sanwa clears? I am looking at the plunger for one now and it does not seem I can seperate the top and bottom half without breaking the plunger. It might require some special equipment…

Yes, you can.

My inelegant but effective method was to use 2 screwdrivers and plunge them into the side tabs at the same time. You then pull up slightly on the button and it pops off. I also didn’t use glue and haven’t had any problems. I’ll post pictures later on if you’d like

I have the exact same question about making this work with Sanwa buttons. I just finished up my first stick project, and it looks fantastic. The one gripe I have though is that the solid red color buttons I used covers up alot of the artwork and it’s a little hard to see what it actually is. I have all of the cut outs from the artwork already, but my question like other people is how do you separate the top of the plunger from the bottom on sanwa buttons? Using the screwdriver in the sides method works just fine for getting the plunger out of the rim; that part is easy. But look at the plunger once it’s out… It doesn’t look like you can remove the top of the plunger without breaking it off.

Also, in my Qanba Q4 (I’m asuming this is kinda the same in most sticks?) the buttons only fit into the case one way. Does anyone have any tips for getting the art to line up with the original picture aside from jsut eye balling it?

Great Job Now when i do my buttons it wont look as bad

As long as the paper is laid flat, even normal printer paper would be fine in top panel art and buttons.

Sorry to revive a old thread. But i have some seimitsu gnc’s i want to use. Im doing a itachi/kakashi stick and wanted use art that isnt part of the art being used on the panel. i want to use the different stages of the sharingan in each of the buttons. I want the art to fit the button perfectly. Anyone know what exact size the inside is?

I want to size these to work

Use a metric ruler…

Measure the diameter of the inner button plunger cap of one of the transparent buttons you’re using. THAT’S what you use to determine art cut-off. You’re going to have some cut-off like it or not unless you want ALL the artwork on the inside of the button cap. In that case, you’re going to have shrink the art to fit the button cap where you’ll tape (double-sided) or glue it and use thicker outside circular lines.

For a 30mm button, you can expect to cut a ring around the inner art circle that’s 4-6mm thick. You lose from the outer rim of the button that sits on the faceplate (around 1.5-2mm), the area between that rim and the plunger (around 1mm), and lastly, the thickness of the plunger (less than 2mm probably). Use the inner button plunger cap for final artwork cut-off measurements instead of the actual plunger face. Some people also trace around the button cap as a guide for cutting. Trace on the “clean side” of the button art you’re cutting out unless you trust yourself with a cutting compass.

Measure in metric… It’s easier to use; the buttons are metric-measured and cut at any rate.
Compare your measurements against a printed template (if you HAVEN’T printed the final faceplate art yet) and center the art based on that.

People use different transparent buttons; nobody cuts their art the same way. Kind of hard to have a standard artwork cut-off template when you have 3-4 manufacturers who make their buttons differently. Seimitsu has the most variety in clear buttons and even their transparent button lines are different depending on the product. Their transparent screw-in buttons use different microswitches than their plug-ins, some of the button plungers are more convex than others depending on model…

Ok, ill check my job to see if we have any rulers/tapes in metric before I buy one. Just wanted to see if there wasa general size for the button art. I’ll just have to mess with it . I’ll just print the images in black and white, resize it until I find the right size cut before I do the final piece in color. I just wanted to see if there was a size already known to make life easier.
The art work im using on the faceplate wont be used in the buttons. Im printing these 6 stages of sharingan seperately from my faceplate work to specifically use for my 6 buttons. So i want to get these as close to exact as possible for the butttons.
Thanks for your reply George C.
I still need to find a T5 template to use and see if someone in the image section can help me with the artwork.

So sorry for bringing this one alllll the way back from the grave, but i’ve got a question that conventional research has come up empty on.

these small inner plungers(for sanwa specifically) can they be purchased individually, and if so can someone provide a link? I’ve come across plenty of “30MM” plungers", but nothing that i imagine would be the “inner plunger”. has anyone found any solutions? this would be a great work around for me instead of purchasing a completely new set of buttons.
