Guide: How to get better at Street Fighter 3 Third Strike

Yah, I can agree with the underrated part. Especially in the US scene. I’ll look into more matches. So far I only saw Sextaro play Yang. Also, played a Yang in Tokyo, but he wasn’t anything special.

Yang’s cool because he can attack you from high and low on BOTH sides of you when he has you in the corner, and he only needs to land EX slashes on you a couple times before you’re screwed, and he always has EX slashes because he builds meter really well.

On top of that, he has his command grab so that blocking is no longer that safe. They’re gonna have to throw something out to get out of that, and that leaves them wide open for crouching MK -> Ex slashes, that’s why Yang isn’t just some dude that everyone loses to because they’re too stupid to block low.

Look up Roshihikari or KOFiend. Both solid Yangs. He seems simply at first but you can dig pretty deep with him. He has great mixup potential.

Me agreeing with you would be filler but I…agree none the less. I use his ‘kaihou’ to chase after opponents who roll away [usually trying to position myself BEHIND them] then try to capitalize with a UOH or his ‘zenpou tenshin’ into a poke then into another ‘kaihou’ to get away and keep them guessing. His ‘zenpou’ is some serious mind game shit…though against someone who can read it would be easily punished.

[note: Yes I had to look up the names of the moves in the book to make sure. And no, I’m not greatness at this game. Just trying to put my two cents in there.]

PS: Nice tut but I didn’t see UOH [though I admit I just skimmed through it]. UOH’s are great to know…

PPS: If you could put up some arrow keys and punch/kick buttons explaining the moves, that’d be awesome [i.e. your kara throw explanation]. Visuals are greatness.

[You asked for feedback. Just trying to help.]

Just a heads up, I’ve updated the guide with a ton of new content. You can check it out here.
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2007/sep/30/how-get-better-street-fighter-3-third-strike/

I should also warn you all ? some of the content on this page is quite, “n00bish,” as I’m sure most of you are familiar with the tactics and things discussed in here, but if you want to pass it along to your less skilled friends, it might help them.

Some tips

1/ Don’t wake up parry, hold down and press lp+lk to tech-throws (different timing); and beware of overheads.

2/ Safety first, meaning no unnecessary moves

3/ Look for option selects “if it hits --> I go on; if it doesn’t hit --> I’m safe”

4/ Vary your offense, develop many patterns etc.

Competitive SF3 is like a sport huh? And Evo must be the superbowl!

More like the World Series…

does any1 have problems with low blocking throw teching. i do it 2 soon. so i get a jab and get grabbed before it hits. and if i’m thinking about doing it slower i am too late or i just don’t react fast enough. should i keep trying to get the timing or should i switch to neutral/high blocking teching? or will i get fucked up by some low to super shit. cause i really have a hard time countering tick throws so mixups get me bad.

Try to double tap throw (I know it sounds ridiculous) but if you get good at pressing all your throws as 2 inputs and as quickly together as possible it will eliminate most if not all of your crouch tech problem. Just in case it wasn’t obvious enough the second throw input needs to be FAST AS FUCK!!!

one way to practice is to go into training mode and wiff a crouch tech and try to hit a second throw input directly after, if you only see one crouching jab wiff then you’ve got the right timing.

I honestly don’t see Hugo on the same level as Q and 12… I guess numbers don’t lie but that’s a bit depressing. Seeing as how Q and 12 lack so many options and hugo actually has some solidity to him…

hugo has good mindgames. Q is straightfoward. Sean and ibuki are the best mixup chars in the game accoring to me.

Advance parrying is also about… being able to do the most damage combo afterwards, or at least put them in a situation for more damaging possibilities.

There is no point of parrying if u cant justify the risk u took by not rewarding yourself properly.

I refuse to believe I just saw someone say sean is one of the best mixup characters in the game.

Let it go man. Some people just need to be left in the dark :shake:

Hugo Q and 12 all have solidity to them imo. 12 actually has pretty decent rush/mixup, and Q is a defensive beast.

Sean is a mixup char, but how can you say hes one of the best when his mixups are more obvious and connecting results in less damage/stun? Not to mention his priority and speed are outright lame, as is pretty much everything else about him that doesnt involve humiliating ppl with basketballs.

Ibuki is one of the best mixup chars in the game.

And Yang is a F*ing beast.

necro owns urien seriously

1.Pick Chun-Li

  1. Low Forward into super

  2. Profit

Have a main character but dabble in all of them. Knowing how to play with other characters helps you learn how to play against them.

Can someone tell me about priority. I have been getting into SF2 and 3 over the last year or so and I have got conflicting opinions if you will over this concept. What is priority and why do certain moves have more of it over others? My friend that got me into 3S said priority is just a made up thing but then this other guy I play with at school says its real. I have a guess that it has to do with the hitboxes in some way and timing.
