Guardians of the Galaxy film, updates

While that’s not out of the question, Disney doesn’t care as much right now because of how lucrative those licensing deals are. Imagine how much money Sony and Fox is paying Disney because of those previous deals, and imagine all the clauses put into those contracts that allows the rights to revert back to Disney should Fox and Sony fail to meet their requirements.

We’ve already seen it happen with Daredevil/Elektra and Blade, Fox gave up those rights to keep Fantastic Four around. It can happen with X-Men and Spider-Man too, it’s Disney/Marvel letting them keep those franchises if anything actually.

There’s not much they can do actually. Both Fox and Sony have shown that they’re willing to put out even subpar movies in order to keep the rights.

Neither side really needs to go out of their way to get the rights back to Marvel. Disney/Marvel make plenty of money off of the licensing deals and they already command a lot of money for what they have. And Sony and Fox will make a lot more money over time for keeping the rights than they would if Disney paid them off.

Oh yea for sure, I’m not saying they aren’t, I’m simply wondering why. Sony has been pretty good to Spider-man for the most part, but I wouldn’t say Fox has done X-Men/F4 any favors, and it since that Marvel logo is attached to those properties it reflects badly on the franchise as a whole, so it just seems strange to myself and others that Disney isn’t keen to snatch them back up, brand worth is important, you’d think Disney would care about the long term value then the short term gains.

I mean these are the guys who know the value of dumping their IPs into moratorium because it increases the worth of the IP over the long term.

I honestly don’t understand why Fox fought so hard to keep Fantastic Four. Both movies were moderately successful at best and were not well liked. The only reason to hold on to it is to keep their villains and associated characters away from Marvel. I would kill to see Doctor Doom, Super Skrull, Silver Surfer and Galactus in a Marvel Studios film.

Well the last thing you’d want to show is that you really want to buy shit back. That just jacks the asking price up. And as it is now, Fox has no reason to sell X-Men back to them at any price. F4 is another thing but since they’re fully in the midst of casting I doubt they’d look into any deals over that until that movie is done and out.

If Disney/Marvel really wants this shit back they have to wait until Fox digs their own grave.

I hated F4 part 1 cause it was just dumb and not fun to watch, they turned one of marvels most powerful super villains into a wimp. Doom is a bad ass as seen in my avatar, hardly anyone can go one on one with Doom, maybe Reed, cause Reed can make anything he wants to beat anyone he wants. F4 part 2 was ass, sorry but galactus is not a giant space cloud, and cant be defeated by Silver Surfer

I thought the first movie was solid, nothing great but still solid. I thought Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd, and Michael Chiklis were great casting choices. I’m a not huge stickler for slightly altering comic lore to fit it into a film, I didn’t mind something like the redone origin or The Thing’s girlfriend being black (Kerry Washington was good in that role imo).

Everything else about FF1 and 2 were bland to bad, Jessica Alba was miscasted eye-candy that lacked acting skills (I’m sure she’s a good person but her acting is a no-go), Doom was a cliched villain, and Galactus as storm cloud was pathetic (even how Silver Surfer saved the day was weak).

I do have little hope that Fox will succeed with a FF reboot, X-Men will get by on brand recognition for a good while until the nosedive in quality will kill it a few movies later. Fox doesn’t have the right creative/collaborative people in place to make their Marvel properties last.

I’m sure once the FF movie underperforms and the 7-8 years elapse, Fox will give it up like prostitutes gives out gonorrhea. :coffee:

X-men, even though it seems to be in yo-yo mode with the quality, they are solid performers, and moreso in the international arena.
Some stat said that Wolverine 2 made the most internationally of all the X-flicks.
Even though Niggatron RockB would disagree, the Singer/Vaughn flicks were popular, and future x- have some potential to be hits if they give people what they want.
(Gambit, Sinister, Better costumes, Cable, less Wolvy, Cyclops not taken as a joke)
since its Fox , it will be like a snail pace

Anyway, part of me still cant beleive there will be a GOTG movie before Wonder Woman, Flash, JL,Dr Strange, etc…
What a world we live in…

Actually Doom has a really long back-round. His mom going to hell for one, and him studying magic and science is other. And in the movie it doesnt really do a good job of why Doom hates Reed. There was a lab accident and he blamed Reed for it. He also might have been sorcerer supreme if not for Doctor Strange

I don’t give a shit about Fantastic Four, but Dr. Doom NEEDS to be in an Avengers movie…

I’d love to see a well-casted, well-acted Doom interacting with RDJ and crew.

Dr. Strange being introduced late into the MCU makes sense really. Everything else up to this point has been science of varying degrees, but they have to tread carefully on how they deal with mysticism/magic.

Now the DC stuff is admittedly harder because it’s much more over-the-top and stuck in the capes-and-tights territory than Marvel, but that shouldn’t stop them completely from doing it pre-Avengers. But it would’ve been cool if WB/DC were already at the point of making Fourth World or Legion of Superheroes/The Legion into a film series.

Why you hatin’ on Doom, Rock? Or do you want him to go up against T’challa in the movie Marvel will never make.

We got gotdamn Rocket Raccoon in a movie before Black Panther…

Well this is true. It would just be fun to see… I guess there’s always snicker Kang… lol

I dont really care about a single one of the Fantastic Four, to be honest. I just feel that Galactus is important for some of the upcoming stories Marvel seems to be heading towards, and I want that mother fucker back, and not being turned into a fucking space cloud. Getting the Ghost Rider IP’s back will help via Mephisto. I don’t wanna see Infinity Gauntlet done with the fucking GotG and no Galactus or SS or Mephisto.

Well too bad, because that’s what’s going to happen.

Doom is a universal villain. They can make him fit with Avengers if they want. Ether that or use him as a villain for another Iron Man movie. He and Tony have history.

Only non FF thing I wanna see with Doom is is the Doctor Strange crossover where they save his mother from hell.

I want to see Doom and Iron Man Camelot arc adapted in some fashion.

Rather see the 2099 stories be a movie.

I just wanna see a REAL Doom. Don’t reinvent him. They did that with Lex Luthor in the movies, and now every actor tries to be campy Gene Hackman rather than give us the true villain we deserve. I don’t want Doom getting superpowers with the rest of the FF. He gets magic and machines. Give him Latveria. The Avengers movies should have at least made comments about Latveria (and Wakanda) existing, by now. Give him the proper history with Reed.
