i agree. but i’m jsut saying, unless u build with that in mind, sometimes you are bogged down by the traits of your characters (like me and adam). that said, TAC becomes a very valuable tool in those situations.
If i had an easy way of leveling without a TAC, it would be my first choice. But i will not start frank on point, just for that option. It isn’t worth it. Taht’s all i’m saying. I think we are all on the same page.
My Gimmick team
Dante Frank =blank who ever works for you=
Dante touches you with just about anything that can confirm into a meter building combo you get level 4 frank
I like to run this team with Dormammu just in case Dante doesn’t get a hit in, and can clean up most teams fairly well with XF3 derpiness as well as dark hole giving a GREAT extension for Franks combos
Dante with Drones is pretty damned stupid and can really help get that first hit in and can help fill up space
Doom is godlike in clearing space with beam or with lockdown with missiles.
Anyone else that you guys think would run well with those 2
If you’re doing a thc with dante, you can get frank to level 5. Take one snapshot before he puts them in the flying spinny state, one after. Just saying.
Alrighty, had some fun experimenting around today. After reading the posts and advice here I’ve applied some ideas to form a team that I really enjoy!
Cap (S.Slash - Punisher Cost.6), Frank (Shopping - Mega Man Alt), Arthur (Daggers - Golden Cost.3)
This team is good because it pairs up Cap with the Arthur Dagger assists. Makes it easier to get him going while throwing Shields around the place. I don’t worry too much about TAC’ing into Frank because Cap does good damage and has plenty of ways to finish a combo without needing help. Also having Frank behind Cap makes for good DHC damage after Charing Star Hyper since Blue Light Spec does OTG damage and it’s very easy to “mind-confirm” whether or not the DHC will KO or you even really need to tag out Cap. So I like the synergy between those two.
With Frank, as taken from a previous poster, I’ve started just snapping pictures with Arthur’s Daggers to level up him to 2. Really, that’s all Frank needs. With Dagger assist, once you have the roll, you become a nightmare. I find that Arthur’s Dagger is so great because it comes out fast and it’s easy to get a roll behind an opponent to start offense. So I find that there’s pretty good synergy between the two. Here are my three ways to level up Frank paired up with Arthur:
Throw Daggers, take pictures to reach Lv 2
Survival Hyper > DHC Golden Armour > Hard Tag Frank > Snapshot
THC Goddess Bracelet
I really enjoy this team a lot! All three characters are fun to play, and they all seem to pair up with each other really well. I rely on Cap to do the 700+ Damage by himself, and then once I get Frank in there I rely on him to mix-up using Dagger Assists, and if EVERYTHING goes bad I still have Arthur with Lv 3 X-Factor who’s always a turnaround kind of guy in that position, so easily a character I can OCV with.
… Another team: Cap, Frank, Firebrand
This is another team that I was favoring. Firebrand in that Lv 3 XF spot gives him that OCV potential that he lacks. However, this team lacks one fundamental thing: there really aren’t any good assists here. In the end, the pros of Arthur with his Lv3 XF potential AND assists outweigh Firebrand. Still a fun team to use, this is typically my #2 team if I’m not feeling Arthur.
… I’ve also messed around with Firebrand, Frank, Arthur
Firebrand doesn’t do the damage that Cap does, but he does drive up the combo meter and makes for a good TAC > Lv. 3/4 Frank. Quite honestly neither Frank or Firebrand is going to deal a touch of death combo, so I’d rather just have one of the two, and that’s why I choose to swap out Firebrand with Cap.
From what I hear Round Harvest, Raw Tag Frank sj. Snap Shot. Though it’s been said that it leaves Frank unsafe since he has to land on Snapshot while the opponent get’s to land first.
I’m making a little video that shows ways of getting frank to level 3 and above. These combos are going to show off solo frank, frank on point and secondary frank with my teams. I dont want to tell people how to play so anything after level 3, you’re on your own. My job is to help you guys, well, LEVEL UP.
Will post when the upload is finished.
EDIT: Didnt want to double post. I hope this helps.
i never really gave Vanilla a shot but I really like Ultimate and the problem I’m having is that I can’t deciede on who to play with. One thing I did figure out is that Im all about Frank West. Now I need to figure out who’s the other two. So the pool of characters I want to put with him is;
Dante
Dr.Strange
Doom
Task Master
Hawkeye
Dante is his BFF but Im not that good with him yet. I like Strange, Doom & taskmaster and can play them well, while Hawkeye makes any team better. Any suggestions are gladly appreciated. Do not mention Albert. Not trying to play him at all.
What cspture card do u use? The quality is very clean and i loved the intro.
I know we differ oj some points but i respect this vid. some relaunch opportunities i havent thought of.
I loved the video, and I hate to sound ungrateful or untitled… but you could post annotations? It’s my biggest pet peeve in the world when there are combo videos without inputs shown at the bottom or in the YouTube video info. I know it takes a little time, but it would help to know exactly the inputs as they are moving kinda fast and you may miss something.
Again, thanks for the video! It definitely gives me a few ideas!
See that is what we meant by working on level 1 Frank. You can find some interesting stuff when working on Frank instead of working of other to make him level!
lets not go overboard here. the relaunch only got him to level 3… with assists i can get him to level 4 with two bar and no TAC. no amount of level 1 combos changes his lack of mixup at level 1… but yes, it is nice to see something new.
a thing to note in the vid is that you can tack on a tiny bit more damage by adding j.:d::h: after some wallbounces/groundbounces from the assists (I remember seeing Nemesis). Pretty good vid though, there were some stuff I haven’t seen before.
I thought it was obvious that I was referring to the fact that spending time studying Frank can bring out new things that focusing on leveling up through other characters would not. In this case, the “new” info just happens to be about combos. I don’t know how I went overboard with anything I’ve said though.
I think we are running around in circles here because you are misinterpreting what I say and my main arguments. So I’ll break it down and hopefully it makes sense.
This implies that, because my main strategy to level up frank is to DHC or TAC, that I don’t work on playing Frank. Obviously, it is important to know how to play your character thoroughly. For Frank that includes knowing how to use him when he is level 1 and the rest of your team dies. I agree with this. And thus, I do practice ways to level up frank solo. (of course, I don’t understand why you would think elsewise.) However, it doesn’t mean that the best spot FRank should be in is point at level 1… I don’t see how anyone can effectively argue against this belief. he has ZERO offensive mixup at level 1. The best strat i’ve seen is what someone mentioned about comboing snapshot off of projectiles.
Lastly, why would you think that working on tech’s to level frank up with other characters would prevent me with trying to learn how to level up with frank? u make it sound like players should only use frank… well what if frank dies? wouldn’t u be wishing u put time in the rest of your team?
I’m grateful for Wolverine’s video. It’s a good video. He has provided good ways to level up to 3/4 using those assists without meter. That is great. Knowing that those things are possible, does that mean Frank should be started on point? Wolverine master himself knows that probably is not the optimum strategy.
I can see how someone could take what I’ve been saying personally. But almost every discussion in the Frank West forums is about ways to level up. I’m really just attempting to get away from that. I’m done trying though.
Thank you…I use the HAUPPAUGE HD PVR. I bought it earlier this year for about $200. Its probably cheaper by now.
Damn…thats alot of writing. Ima do it after I respond to the posts below yours. Shit, thats alot of writing…lol.
Thank you. I will consider your advice.
Ok, we’re back into the fighting thing again? The reason I said I wasn’t going to make anymore points is because they are solely based on MY opinion. Lets use our imagination a little bit. What if other characters had the same leveling up strats, wouldn’t their normals naturally get better with the increased levels? How about if you can only level up by doing a straight combo, no ACRONYMS, what would you do then? What if it costs YOU meter to TAC, would you do it?
The reason I’m asking these is because YOUR frank has zero mixup at level 1. Your assist dont compliment him on the ground. They work best from YOU having 2 meters or YOU relying on that TAC. This is all a matter of your opinion which is a good thing. In general, someone should know how to operate their team in any order. Whether it be a snapout or if someone dies. Want a frank team?
Find 2 characters that work for you. Strong, fast, mixup friendly, meter builder, causes crumple states, whatever…FIND THEM.
Then pick frank. LEARN his normals and learn it well…I can’t stress that enough. Levels 1-4…5 only hits harder. Use my vid if it helps.
Then, with the 2 characters you already mastered, pick their assist to suit frank. This matters because frank should be able to level up from anywhere.
Test out your team. In training mode jump over a dummy and do a random d.H…see what kind of combo you can develop from that. Experiment with all the levels. That is a must.
Have your team mates to frank die (in training mode) then fight against and expert computer dummy to get some experience with fighting with solo frank. Experiment with all levels.
If frank dies on your team, you should be able to hold your own with 2 solid characters. Frank should NEVER be the " GO TO GUY " of your team. He is a hard chipper and he can build meter for his team mates.
Wanna know why he’s on point on one of my teams? I build teams to suit people’s skill levels.
Team 1 - (ironfist/frank/spencer) This is the team I use to test how good someone is. If I dont know you and you challenge me, this is the team I usually pick first.
Team 2 - (frank/nemesis/firebrand) According to how bad I get beat with the previous team, I go for these guys. If I cant beat you then I have to bring out…
Team 3 - (wolvie/sentinel/magneto) If I dont win with this team then I give you props and respect even thought I might be having a bad play day. It happens.
Kensanity is right about one thing though. Frank is not best on point, FOR EVERY TEAM. He works fine on point with me. But thats just me. When I pick that team I dont expect you to beat frank, so I play with that mentality. I rarely ever get to level 4 and I still win. Getting there is useful for damage and chip but still not a necessity. We all have valid points guys but we have to consider that other people feed off of whatever knowledge we’re dishing out.
Thanks for watching the video.
