Grappler Baki + Martial Arts Manga

Havn’t read this thread in a while.

Just read the end to Holyland and was reminded of it.

Holyland was amazing.

What are people reading nowadays and how are you guys getting your baki fix ?

Holyland’s ending was pretty sweet. I liked it.

The Breaker is updated also

Interesting with Shioon, I’m curious if he gets into BOT or not, due to hobo doc’s little scheme…

edit@Shari:

Shamo’s pretty good if you keep up with it

The Breaker has slowed down to a crawl, but hopefully something big happens next chapter

We get the Baki stuff through the raws(and input from proletar on things that are actually being said) and the occasional translation

I only started reading Kenichi again because Saiga showed up.

Oh is Shamo updating again ?

I thought that was on perpetual hiatus ?

Holyland 178, FUCK. YEAH. I thought this shit was gonna end platonic, but now I can enjoy the ending in peace.

Now that that’s resolved, I’m just waiting for Sakura to get her shit pushed in while Hinata takes over

@Shari: yes, back to evening, I guess Hashimoto and Tanaka got the legal issues settled, as they’re still working together on it. The latest volumes have been uploaded online iirc, if not I’ll send them to you. I’m glad it’s back, but I bet that’s one hell of a weird working environment to have considering Tanaka was suing Hashimoto for some big money and full rights to Shamo

edit: 2nd to last chapter of Holyland remind anyone of the Wire?

Just read up to the point where Touma finally punches.

This fight is like a ultra shitty version of Amanai vs Doppo without Yujiro to come in and slap some sense into Touma.
I just hope it finishes soon so they can move on to something better.

It’s strange because all the other matches in the tournaments so far were awesome.

Is there anything else out beyond that point that i am missing ?

Christ you bastards already finished Holy Land?

I gotta start reading it again. SO excited to see it get a live action show. So many manga could do well like this but instead we get what we get.

No you’re caught up, the next volume is due out in sept, which is when I think we’ll get the next upload instead of getting the raws as they come as not many people are scanning Shamo.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’ll finish in the next volume, Ryo either bleeds out to death, finishes Toma, or Toma beats up Ryo.

Well HNI is crap as usual. Toma can eat rocks. Breaker NW was pointless which is not surprising. So today it’s all about Holyland. Off the bat, Shougo was beast. It was his best showing in the entire series. Always liked him. Didn’t really care for whatever was going on between Yuu and Masaki’s sister since Holyland is about fighting. I heard about the ending but it came off as being a lot worse so I expecting to be let down but nope. That was a great ending honestly. Dude is a legend. This is actually a far better ending than Gekiryuuchi did. One of the best parts of HL is the little tidbits of info you get from the author during fights. Honestly, I can’t even hate on King since he was such a damn good fighter. I liked that he switched from being playful to dead fucking serious when he learned what he was up against. What can I say? They gave you everything you wanted in this ending. It’s too good to get a sequel. Not something I can say that happens often.

^Well some people were just disappointed that Yuu hadn’t made it to the pro stage, but I don’t think there was cause for concern. I also didn’t take the ending of just a cyclical repeat either. Yuu has taken on a more inspirational role to the newcomers to the area, he’s no longer actively beating thugs down or whatnot(hence him taking on legendary status over the 3 years that pass instead of people knowing who he is physically). I think it’s pretty obvious Mai was waiting on him, and he had went back to go help that kid briefly. And it seemed to me Masaki/Shin were more disappointed that Yuu didn’t make it to Masaki’s title fight, not that Yuu has disappeared completely. So all in all a good ending, though it did remind me of my longing in RRR to see Rikitarou and Raita face off on the world stage.

As far as Gekiryuuichi, I understand the ending being hamfisted a bit because they were forced to end it early, so the author resolved things the best he could instead of outright aborting it like Tiji-Kun. Yet even Tiji-Kun ended better than Ultra fucking Red >:|

edit: and don’t bash me for almost jumping out of my seat when yuu and mai finally cut the bs ;p

Yuu confirmed to have more balls than Ippo.

I wonder how many chapters of holyland had someone crying. 70%?

80% of the tears coming from Yuu

Just read all of breakers up to new waves 72.

Elder Kwon is a badass of the highest degree.
Is there any more chapters i am missing ?

Reading the first couple chapters of Holyland…this shit isn’t just about boxing is it? I mean, the main character does eventually learn styles/a style that uses kicks, too, right?

Trying not to spoil who learns what i’ll just say that there is a multitude of styles in the Manga.

Keep on reading.

Just posting on this gross ass site to say the Holyland manga was FUCKING AWESOME! I loved this series, even though it did get a bit “emo” at times, but considering who Yuu was it’s not surprising to go through self-doubt. I didn’t even want to use the word emo, so I put in quotation marks. Karate vs MMA (BJJ?) fight was too fucking boss, and I almost jumped out of my seat at the conclusion of that one. The ending was soooooooo~ sastisfying. Loved everything about this series. The narratives during the fights were probably my favorite part.

If this gets licensed in English, I will buy the English version. It was that good.

About Shamo: I went to MangFox to read it and it’s been taken down since it’s been licensed. Not sure by who since I couldn’t find info about it, but it was taken down. I did catch up with it since I found it somewhere else. I’ll pick this one up as well, even though it did get stupid at the end of the Liu Di Ling arc, regardless Liu Di Ling was too fuckin’ ill, and he is one of my favorite characters. I’m gonna customize Lau to look like him when Final Showdown drops. Good to see the current fight pick up and I look forward to this series ending (that’s a good thing, not a knock, btw).

IF I HAD TO COMPARE THE TWO FOR WHATEVER REASON, I would give the edge to HL because it seems to have been smart and end after Chinese Martial Arts, or at least not get into the fantasy elements of Chinese Martial Arts. These two are my favorite fight manga though.

I should catch up on Vagabond one of these days, and eventually Ippo…

Yeah, I came to this thread JUST to talk about Holyland.

It’s goddamn mindblowing just how well they depict street fights.

Whatever Baki throws, it’s useless against Yujiro…imagine how powerful they both become if they take a couple of more power-ups during the battle. That’s a final attack that nearly killed Doppo and Kaku. Won’t Baki be an exception (as his mother who said Ogre slaps like a bitch)?
