Gran Turismo 5 Thread: Don't forget to change the oil on that beater

According to wiki, it’s coming out on Nov 24

YES! all the cars i wanted are in the game: old school Toyota’s like the MR2, Supra, and Corolla and the new CR-Z and lexus LFA

premium zr-1 is all i need

Got the game a couple of days ago. Asian Collectors came out slightly cheaper (equivalent to $90) but came complete with model car (SLS AMG, not the GT-R), guidebook and 5 DLC cars.

EDIT: No keychain though.

only 8.5 on ign
ouch, quite a drop from gt 3 and 4, which got 9.8 and 9.5 respectively

turns out the game itself doesnt have much depth, just looks and plays really nice
too bad, a nice career mode would have been sweet

The IGN review is complete trash. Horrible read and the writer complains about the menu (has been fixed) which he uses as a reason to bring down the score. There is depth in this game, don’t believe a horribly written review that there isn’t.

GT5 is the real deal. TONS AND TONS of content, with the expectation that more will be provided through updates. If GT5P was any indication, this game is going to have a lot of support.

Currently have put in around 5 hours into the game and so far I have gotten all gold medals on B-License.

so i should not second guess myself to purchase it?

Buy it! If you loved previous GTs, then you’ll love 5.

IGN, review is trash. If you want a proper review, read the “First Drive” from Jalopnik.

The reviewer clearly didnt know what he was talking about or only spent like an hour playing the game as most of the stuff he says is downright false

It’s IGN, they haven’t done a decent review in years now.

ok awesome
thanks guys! and yes i loved 2,3,4. didnt play 1 much, but obviously im a car fan and a gt fan

This gave me a good laugh. Looking forward to picking this up on the 1st. I do wanna know what is up with everyone else getting a better CE edition. If you look at the EU Signature set they get a lot more. They even get a chance at winning a Mercedes SLS AMG! Shame on you SCEA for snubbing American GT fans. That’s really my only gripe outside of not being able to get my drive on right now. Have any of you guys used GT PSP to port your garage over to GT5? The promise of being able to import cars acquired on the PSP version is what sold me on it last year, and I really want those premium cars I earned ready and available when I cop this next week.

Haters gonna hate, I’m enjoying GT5 so much right now…but damn that Elise 111R is a handful

So I’ve never bought a GT game cause my dad always did previously, but this generation he doesn’t have a PS3 so as someone that likes racing games(not cart type games) but probably won’t invest in a wheel, should I still buy this?

Edit: reading that Jalopnik review it seems like forza would be a better option, but I’m open to any opinions

GT5’s still a really good game without a wheel.

It’s just a little harder without a wheel, IMO. Just like Grand Prix Legends, the reigning king of racing sims when it comes to how much time you need to practice at it before you become average.

Cars are fucking expensive in this one

I’ve always found GT real boring without a wheel. Wont be playing 5 till I have a G27.

ok i got it
i love it

but i dislike levelling up to get my zr-1 !! :frowning:

The level system I think is a great way to make sure the player learns about driving. Sadly it still won’t prevent some people from complaining that their favorite car in real life will never spin out when going 150mph into a turn.

ZR-1 is a beast. Do the special events and licenses for quick level gains.

I have always felt that the GT series has been about praising the cars and its manufactures for its accomplishments to the industry. GT5 does an amazing job at conveying that message.

I map the throttle and brake to the R2 / L2 shoulder buttons, gear shifts to [] and X and steer with the left analog. I think that’s about as close as I’ll get to playing on wheel with the DS3. It’s better than using the right analog since it allows for simultaneous gas and brake pedal usage although I don’t think heel-toe shifting makes any difference or is even necessary at all in GT.
